Are the PS3s from Dell.com brand new?

Athefre

CAGiversary!
I was about to order a PS3 from Dell.com but I started wondering if I will receive a brand new/never opened PS3.

Anyone here that bought one willing to tell me how theirs came?

Or does anyone know a promo code for Amazon that will bring my total price down to around $360? I would buy the Meijer deal but they are out of stock and supposedly the deal is over even though the page is still around.

no, your ps3 will not be new.
a dell employee will open up the box and lick the ps3 before shipping it to you.
........
just kidding :)

I ask because a few months ago at the bottom of the PS3 dell page it said "All systems refurbished". But now it doesn't say that, so it could still be refurbished or it could not...

nope. i ordered mine around February or march of 08 from dell. mine was the 40gb and it was brand new along with the other s**t i bought from them for the ps3. hope this helps.

Alright I'll order it since it's new, but I will have the Sony 1 year warranty and be able to return it to Sony using whatever papers or online information I have, right? If it stops working within one year.

Alright cool, I'll see what happens after the 1 year.

Sucks, this is the only generation of consoles that I've had break down. I've had to send my 360 in, my Wii in (though it was only because of the Smash Bros. thing), and one of my DSs quit working.

well everything is outsourced now in days. i mean back in the late 90's when the first PlayStation was released it was made in Japan. After the first couple of years the ps2 came out, that started being made in china. quality is being forgotten where quantity is the new *new*...sadly Microsoft always made crappy s**t

Yeah, it's sad, I just want a system that will work for my entire lifetime, I guess that's too much to ask of a company.

The PS3 is now ordered, thanks for the help :)
Congrats on your PS3 purchase! Hope you enjoy the games. :)
I hope I do too, I haven't enjoyed the 360 too much (too many FPS...) and I bought my Wii for first party Nintendo games and that's all I've bought for it.

I just miss being able to go to the store and buy a 50 hour RPG...Valkyria Chronicles looks nice and I plan to buy Sacred 2 but there isn't much else this generation for me.

Did you look at the 360 RPG's?
Infinite Undiscovery, Blue Dragon, Losy Odyssey, Star Ocean 4, Tales of Vesperia, Enchanted Arms, and Last Remnant are out for it. Enchatned is the only RPG that's also on the PS3, and it's pretty shitty for either version. As far as I know, the only PS3 exclusive RPG's is Folklore, Disgaea 3, and Valkyria. So, the 360 is definitely leading the RPG section.

Then you have Mass Effect, Sacred 2, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fable II, etc.
Most Western RPG's are third party, but they play better on the 360. For instance, I heard Fallout 3 was pretty glitchy on the PS3.

Just letting you know if you didn't, if so, then good luck! :)

Yeah, I have Blue Dragon, Oblivion (I put over 200 hours into this), and Fallout 3 (over 100 hours) and have owned:

-Lost Odyssey - Loved the story but the trigger ring battles weren't good compared to Shadow Hearts, and the game had the awful Unreal Engine problems
-Eternal Sonata - Again loved the story, but every battle was the exact same in each "dungeon"
-Last Remnant - Bad
- Fable II - I got it, didn't open it, read some more reviews and decided I would rather have another game
- Mass Effect - I've thought and thought about why this game got such high review scores, the story is awesome, I loved it, but the gameplay is average, maybe even below average. If this game hadn't been made by Bioware, maybe made by a company that hadn't made many good games in the past, it's average on gamerankings would probably be in the 70s.

Others:

- Sacred 2 - I'm looking for a good deal on the PS3 version right now.
- Tales of Vesperia - Waiting for the PS3 version :)
- Star Ocean: The Last Hope - I want it, it looks awesome, but I haven't bought it for some reason...
- Infinite Undiscovery - Looks alright but I'm sure it has at least a few of the same problems Lost Odyssey and Last Remnant have.
Sounds like you know what you are doing then. :)
Hope you enjoy the PS3, they're very nice systems.
Maybe I'm just getting picky about RPGs, it seems like I could be when I re-read my post. I just don't remember the PS/PS2 RPGs having the problems I'm finding in the 360/PS3 releases, and I haven't noticed them in recent PS2 releases (Persona 3/4, Mana Khemia).

Maybe we'll get more in a year or three when development costs go down.

I don't blame you, I'm no BIG RPG fan myself, but I couldn't enjoy many of the next gen RPGs like I used to on the PSX.
I have a PSP and have FF9, Crimson Gem Saga, etc on there, so it definitely helps for nostalgia gaming.
