Are you guys rich :P

I am not rich. Using this site I usually buy games, play them, and sell them on ebay or trade them. I usually never lose money, and actually have made money on a few transactions. Using the B2G1 sale at Toysrus, I bought 3 games, completed them, them sold them all for about same amount I paid. Honestly, I think I am going to give up on buying brand new releases and just wait a few months until they drop. Sure, there will be games I HAVE to buy when it comes out, but waiting a short while to save $30 isn't too bad.

Well I have a 4 year old and a fiance, but I still manage to get multiple games a month, tips to how I do it..

Scoreing when people post on CAG lol..
Hitting the bargain bins at EBgames..

I have a backlog of like 60 games and usually spend maybe $20 a month on games and if it is a new release well Either I wait till holidays and get it as a gift or I dump older games im not playing anymore. The only thing is I wish sometimes I had more time to game it usually requires me to sacrifice sleep time. Overall though if you just look around you find deals even ones not posted on here..

I'm very rich......In wiskers and paws. Easy way to save money, don't have FAT cats. I kid I kid, don't sit on me Nemo.

The usual, work hard, save, eat ramen. The problem is when you're young there is all the time in the world to play games and you have no money. Now I have all the money I need for a healthy gaming hobby and no time. Damn you world. *shakes fist*

Actually once you've seeded some games in, Goozex is excelent. Goozex has been mostly self sustaining after I put up a few games. Otherwise the usual keep an eye out for a deal, amazon is good, free shipping, no tax, saves a few bones. And if you can hold off for a couple weeks you can almost always find a smattering of used copies for 15-20 bucks off new price on new releases.

***EDIT***
If you can get them anymore factory type jobs are usually well paying for high school/college kids all things considered. I worked at a Cabelas Distibution center through high school, while now I laugh at 8 bucks an hour at the time that was well over what most my age were making at Walmarts/Fastfood/etc.... It's also hard work, I was fit as a fiddle back then.

"Rich" has a much different meaning when you reach your mid-20s. You go from $80 a week on a good time of the year to $500-$1000 a week. Not rich by any means, but relatively a lot of dollars to throw around if you want to.

Comfortable is how I like to put it. Married, 25 y.o., with dual income and no huge expenses has left us more than enough money to save and spend on whatever we need.

I use to buy one game every six months when I was a teen, now I can afford to buy whatever I want, whenever I want. Time constraints keep me from doing that with a wife and job, although this past week I did buy Uncharted, Assassins, and Fire Pro without hesitation. That should last me a few months.

Wow this thread has really opened my eyes. I guess I never really learned to "budget" my money. That $10 out of my $80 sounds like a good idea.

Not buying MSRP is kinda hard for me. I see a game (especially metroid) I must have it, or I'll go insane. It's killing me right now waiting for Resident Evil for Wii to come down, but I'm waiting.

There needs to be a thread that shows when people buy the new releases, beat them, and sell them. That way they get 90% of there money back, and we get %10 off.

How exactly am I supposed to flip games? I'm not going to buy random games from the Wal-Mart bargain bins, only to find out Gamestop either doesn't take them, or gives me less than what I payed for.

Funny. Some guy on my XBL FL I've never played with messaged me asking "r u rich" a few days ago (not sure if it was a CAG or some other random).

Anyway, this blog helped me a great deal with sticking with a budget and avoiding impulse buying.

If you must know, I'm a Web Designer and make a good living for someone my age/without a degree. I've never taken a student loan and don't have plastic debt.

hey OP, here is a tip you might not have received until college:

sell your plasma

i think you can do it every 2 weeks or so and I think you get $25 a pop. that's a new MSRP game a month (which is very unCAG-like) or multiple games.

i know it sounds weird but a lot of people do it for beer money; when you're not in college, it's prob better spent on games.

The art of flipping is kinda "iffy" on this site but is actually being accepted by the masses as of late. It is either get on clearance and sell on ebay which would be the easiest or those rare finds on highly sout after games and again ebay.,. I was guilty of flipping recently though I found a copy of Pokemon Battle Revolution (Wii) at Goodwill for $6.99 and traded it in at Gamecrazy for $23.75... lol

Many of us are not rich, we're just old!
I also would recommend subscribing to eb/gs newsletter. Quite often they have good coupons in their for those subscribed. Like recently the buy a used gamecube get a used game free. With this you could sell the cube or game and keep the other for free or almost free. You just had to find the right games to make it worthwhile. The good coupons ussually have a thread here on cag as well.

Agreed - I am OLD
reading posts like this make me realize that I am crusin' these boards with people mostly half my age. I am a young 38. I work out 3 days a week. Play Softball on 2 teams and I play video games too. I do pretty well: homeowner, my cars are paid off, no credit card bills. I mention the working out and softball because you should get out an exercise every now and then. Also stay away from fast food.

Rich is really a term that can be defined in many ways. You don't need alot of money to be Rich. You can have a loving wife and family and in many ways be alot "Richer" than the guy next door who is alone with a big bank account.

Fortunately I feel I am very Rich in many ways.

I don't think that's old. If you're a young 38, then I'm an old 30. You're only as old as you feel. And it's true that 'rich' can be defined in many different ways. But that doesn't stop me from dating legions of hot young 20somethings. Personally, I'm 'rich' in the latter description w/ the big bank account (truthfully, only in the figurative sense as I get better ROI from my investments) but I'm aiming to be both.

Yourfree360games.com and CAG.com have gotten me great deals. My 360 games cost me about 2 dollars each, and CAG alerts me about deals on Wii games that I want, like Super Mario Galaxy with a 25 dollar GC.

I use the sites in my sig. I usually get about $100 a month or more off them which i use for my gaming and my paycheck goes to bills and savings

I wait for sales/price drops, use BB Rewards Zone certs, let people know that giving cash and/or gift cards is AWESOME in my book, only buy games I'm sure to like (if I can't demo it on XBL I rent it), and (very rarely-I'm a collector) trade in games. It also helps that my spouse is fairly understanding and we don't drink, go out dancing, to movies, or anything else like that so pretty much all of my disposable income goes to gaming.

Oh, and that whole selling my soul to Satan thing....works out on the front end, but you gotta worry about when the payment comes due.

I don't really know why, but I just don't trust those FREE [_insert_item_here_] SITES, as some of there web designs are just funny, the amount of ads, and there grammer is horendous.

[x] Set a percent of my income for gaming, the rest for college.
[x] Never purchase a game at MSRP.
[x] Use coupons, flip, 10% off sales, black friday.

And by rich, I mean rich in money, not family. I already know that will never happen :p

Nor did I, until I used a visa giftcard and got confirmation from over 3,000 posts on CAG that the site works.

Patience and ebay, I mean hell I just bought Mass Effect with guide for 56 bucks used and this was on the official release day.

My annual gaming haul is fairly spartan compared to most on these boards, but that's because I made it a goal to be a home owner before I turn 25, to have enough money to mostly cover grad school, and to have a 401k that could fully support me after retirement as early as possible. So far, I'm on track to meet all three goals.

Hmm... let's see. Am I rich? No, I'm a damn college student. At the same time, I've got quite a bit of nice, Ritz-y looking shit, yet I'm not in debt. Deal shopping helps, but it only gets you so far. The biggest money saving tip is to be at least somewhat conservative and only buy what you need. Which ain't particularly easy. The only reason I can get the shit I do is because I don't buy Ipods, I seldom rent movies or go to movies, I don't spend money on impulses, etc. It's not easy to change your lifestyle to be more conservative with your spending, but if you manage it, you'll have a lot more money to spend on the things that you really want to have. Like nice HDTVs, HT setups, game collections, etc.

Also, avoid bitches. They'z money grubbers. (half joking)

The usual here, coupons, price drops, sales, BUYING ONLINE, free shipping, no tax etc. Any little bit you can save helps, it all adds up in the end.

Trading games with other gamers recycles games, so you can get games you haven't played for ones you have played. It also makes 2 people happy and helps out another gamer. And I am not talking about trading games in at gamestop here!

Always have some money put away for a clearance sale, you never know when one is gonna hit. Once you find a clearance sale hoard it all (provided its stuff you actually want to play), then you will have games on the cheap to play for many months.

Also, buy older games. I am extremely frugal and do not own any of the newer systems, besides a Nintendo DS. Most games for this system drop to 19.99 in no time at all, with the exception of a few first party titles. Really easy to keep up with game buying when games are that cheap.

I purchased most of the systems I own at yard sales for under 15$ each, I think the most expensive systems were a 15$ dreamcast and a 25$ saturn with one game shipped from an online friend. The most expensive system I own is a gamecube (lol) that I bought for 150$ with a gameboy player.

No matter what your income level and if your really running out of games in your house to play (who can say they have actually had that problem?) you can always afford to spend 5-10$ on an older game so that you will have something to play. You don't have to spend massive dollars on games to play video games.

I agree with not buying things you don't need, then you can save for the things you really want, I am not going to list items because everyone has different priorities, chances are you can skimp in one area though and save money for another. Don't buy things based on hype, wait for impressions and reviews to come out, only buy what YOU feel is a good product and what you will use.

If you find a real boyfriend/girlfriend you will not need to buy them stuff constantly to earn their love. A gift is nice here and there but if you get to the point where you are spending all your money on your significant other just to earn their love something is wrong.

I've managed to cut down expenses so that half my monthly income is expendable. There really isn't a need for cable anymore when most of the good stuff is online for free(legally and otherwise). Unfortunately I was unemployed for 8 months so that all goes toward paying off debt. I'm pretty good at flipping 0 interest cards to avoid racking up excess debt with the exception of a balance transfer fee here or there. It's not recommended, but it's definately gotten me out of a few jams.

Biggest money saving tip in the world? No more fast food. Make a fucking sandwich for 1/10th the price.

Money is a Bitch, a bitch you will love, hate and on times get raped by

I got all my current 360 games from Yourfree360games.com (Great site, got GH3, COD4, and Assassins Creed just last month and this week alone)

I won my 360 in a contest, one of those "WIN THIS" stands you see in the mall where you fill out your name and adress and whatnot the contest was called "The Next Generation is DEAD! RISING!" 4 months later a big ol box arrives at my door and Whadya know i got a new premium 360 with dead rising.

Kinda fits in with a trend of me getting free game systems, i got my PS2 at launch thanks to a circuit city grand opening, and a PSP from a Best Buy gift card I found in the parking lot worth $300.

So no, im not rich...just a lucky Summa Bitch

What i want to know how is it that people can afford more than one Game system, Two PS3's or 3 360's and whatnot, thats crazy you only need one to play the damn game.

Some people want a second system so that they can play imports (which admittedly doesn't apply to the PS3), others just like to collect shit. It's like stamp collecting, but expensive.

Those sites can really help too (I use myfavefreebies), if you have the time to use them, I have gotten several goodies from them that I would not have been able to get otherwise, either that or I would have had to save for a long time to get them.

I want to know how parents can afford to give their kids an Xbox360, PS3 and Wii for christmas, (come on, you know it happens at christmas!) plus games and accessories to go with them, then provide games for the systems after they are initially bought!

First of all, it's kinda depressing to see all of the people on here talking about not getting a girlfriend...

I guess I got lucky that I have a wife who "accepts" my hobby. She gave me a 360 for Christmas last year with Gears of War a Gamefly subscription. Women are not just for buying gifts, they give them too (contrary to popular belief on this thread).

I've never had a problem with Gamefly, and for what, $20 a month, you can play the new stuff you want without spending a ton.

The other thing I would suggest is selling the stuff you know you're not going to play anymore on ebay or something like that, then you're basically recycling some cash for new games that you want to buy. A lot of the games these days are "one playthrough and done" types, so sell them before they depreciate too much.

I am very lucky. My girl of 5 years buys me gaming items on holidays, birthdays, etc. and also LOVES to watch me play games and even plays a few herself with me. I mean we can spend 5 hours sitting in front of the tv playing games and having a blast. Cant tell you how many RPG's she has watched me play the past few years. Then we'll play some "non-thinking" games to just have some fun. Its one of her best qualities to me. She loves to "game" with her "Gaming fool" of a boyfriend. :)

am i rich nope. my wife works i am soon to be employed again. how do i support my gaming habit . itr is very easy i go to site try to get refs and cash them in for giftcards then i hit up target cleatance and get one or 2 sometimes 3 games with the giftcard i got for only time. my wife sometimes buy me games and such. her working at blockbuster helps as when either people trade in games she offers a dollar more if it is agood game or i buy what they pull each week.

i am far from rich but i am not deprived in the gaming aspect either.

if you wanna know what sites i use pm me i can get you on the track of winning stuff with out a credit card or cash out of your pocket

that goes for anyone.

i am not a cheap ass gamer i am one frecking frugal ass gamer. i talked a kid down from a dollat to 50 cents on a ps2 game. yes i am that cheap :)

better marry her i did my wife as she was the same way gamer girls = very very hard to find

Ima fuckin big tymer!

Blockbuster/Gamerush is your friend and there is a big thread in the deals forum with constant updates from the flip pros. Thanks to GR in the last couple months i've bought a Wii, PS3 and i think 6 new release games for half price or less thanks to sales at Gamestop and flipping games that have high trade values at Gamerush. Most of us here get all twitchy and need to play new stuff right away so this is a good way to go. Problem now is I just have longer want lists because of more systems.

Also check the deals section here a couple times a day since you never know what kinda deal is gonna pop up and be ready to act right away.

If you want to instantly create more blow money just stop drinking pop and stop eating out. Water and home cooking are better for you anyway and way cheaper.

Yeah, being careful about food purchases gives you a shitload more money than you'd have otherwise. If you routinely buy beer, cutting that down or cutting it out altogether also gives you a lot more money to work with. I'm not saying you've gotta go without, but try stealing food and alcohol from your friends.

I'm not rich by a long shot; full-time undergrad students rarely are ;) . On the plus side, I work at Gamestop and have a pretty cool manager whose willing to work around my hefty class schedule, and also did the same thing I do: whenever a B2G1F deal comes along, or a trade-in special, figure out the best way to take advantage of it. Employee discount goes a long way, same with the fact we get discounts at Barnes and Noble so that helps with textbooks.

I think alot of us are careful with expenses... for me to rack up the many games, clothes, electronics, etc, etc this year and still pay down bills and save money... its not rocket science just careful budgeting
employment, lack of a social life/significant other, boredom(?), too much free time, packrat mentality, prospecting...

kinda sums up why I buy so much every month.
Generally I agree with most of these, however I am always busy and tend to have a social life. The fact that I'm married seems to generally debunk the other theory. It's more a prospect/pack-rat mentality thing. While most people are out dropping $60-70 on a game when it comes out, I spend the time realizing what games are likely to drop.

Example? I want the two new Dynasty Warriors games. History has told me $20 is a great price for those games and will be the price I can probably get it for come early next year.

Some games (Mario, etc) you find through history will jump in price.

Generally Degree + Good Job + No Kids = WOO HOO fun for me.

Otherwise:
Addicted2Games: Same thing. My wife plays games and generally wants some games/buys them herself/has me help her with deals. The RPG thing is very very true, though often she wants to play as well. (also agree with the marry her quick thing--- otherwise she'll figure out how weird you are)

Food/Alcohol: Another thing I found is that the second you DON'T drink you save lots of money. I don't drink or smoke and I always seemed to have cash to do things and my friends never did. Go figure. Eating out when you're trying to budget should be limited, but you'll find great deals on Soda/etc. even then. Just know WHEN to buy and what the "best deal in town" is and you'll find the .50 here and there adds up when you're buying something 5 times a week.
