Ok, I need a quick clarification here. In FFTactics, can you have a Lancer dual-weild spears? You can do it for other weapons (swords, katanas, fists), but a friend mentioned that spears were out of the picture. I just hope that I'm not wasting my time making my Lancer learn Two Swords.
You can never equip a character with dual 2 handed weapons. I can't think of one jrpg that allow you to. If it was dual 1 handed weapons then it's ok.

Which final fantasy tactics are you playing? Gba or playstation one? If your playing the playstation one version abuse the accumulative trick with squire class. Just play a stage then clear all the enemies except one. Use a knight skill to lower the speed then keep spamming accumalate. My friend over abuse the trick and he ended up being level 50 before the second stage.

In most turn based strategy rpg if you do a self heal or skill you will always get 10xp because the game engine can't recognize how to distribute the experience, so it will always give you 10 xp regardless, the only except is Stella Deus, they got a system that stop this bug.
wow, dds finally got somewhat difficult:
after completely destroying Lupa, the Brutes base is much harder than expected. time to grind some more skills and level....
Hmm.. that's weird. I found the game extremely easy if you get devour your enemies on daily bases and get the high branches on skill tree. The only hard part is getting enough cash to support it.
Speaking of which, anyone else get Riviera for the PSP? I really liked the game on the GBA, so I really like this one as well.
Count me out! I hate the game mechaincs, the only way to boost up stats is by using item until they learn that ability.

And I'm more than certain that spears are 1-handers, because Lancers get to equip shields, too. I was only curious because if he couldn't get Two Swords, then I would just give him the samurai ability to hold a weapon with both hands.

Really? I beat this game along time ago, so i might forgot about it. Traditionally spears are two handed weapons. According to BoardFourSixNineFour guide on gamefaqs, you can't equip two spears.

Spears have a range of 2 panels and cannot be used with Two Swords. Unlike
FFTA, spears cannot penetrate two targets in one attack.

It's not a big deal since lancers are pretty weak in that game. All you really need is ignore height lancer abilities-the best ability for foot or movement slot in that game. For dual weapons, you probably use ninja class since you don't have to use two weapons ability on a slot or knight class with it's high offensive broadsword. It's even better if you use the dupe trick and get 99 Excalibur. The squire accumalation skill is great for easy level ups and skill point to allocate on different job classes

Hey guys, just wondering if Xenosaga 3 worth $20 purchase?
Saw it at BlockBuster but wasn't sure because I haven't played any of the first two.

Do i need to play the first two to "get" the story?

The vids that I saw look nice but just want a CAGs say in this.
Thanx.

I don't think you'll "get" the story very much either way. I played most of the first one, skipped the second due to people saying its not worth it. When I played the 3rd I didn't understand most of what they were saying. It was all in a foreign language to me

Still, its a fast paced RPG. I'd say its worth it.

Faced-paced hmmmm.

Well Jekki did say it was the best RPG of last year-Oh well guess I'll have to add yet another game to my backlog.

If anyone thinks not, speak now or forever hold your peace.

Xenosaga III is great game since battle system well tune up with it quick combat system, all characters have unique skills or abilities, mech fights are fun to play with and story is pretty good as well, it not quite as good as japanses version since some of stuff is cut out to adjust to teen rating. Inside game, they have pretty good text synopsis of previous episodes. You can get a general idea of the story from wikipedia or watch video clips on youtube

martin8, Just get it, if you want it.

Is it sad that the closest thing to an RPG I've been playing recently is Puzzle Quest?

And I'm still only level 14?

Fun times. :D

Turns out Enchanted Arms is tolerable when either the TV is muted or you have the voices set to Japanese.

I'm not very far into it, but it seems to be worth the $20 I spent on it...for now.
Persona 3 next week! Woo woo!
The hell do you care, Mr. I Finished Persona 3 Like Weeks Ago?

I want it now.
Persona 3 next week! Woo woo!
I'm gonna play it but I don't feel special since you already beat it.

anybody pick up tales of the world for psp? I'm dying to know how it is since I can't seem to find a copy at all...

Look two posts up from yours lol.

Anyway, it's great. We'll see how things go, but so far it's on track to be my favorite PSP game. Though I'm also a Tales fanboy, so take that with a grain of salt I guess.

well the only tales I've played is symphonia for the GC and this one looks like it's a great RPG for the PSP -- which is what I'm all about.

I was lucky enough to find SMT: Nocturne this afternoon, used at GS. The game is complete and in very good condition. While there, I also decided to put down a preorder on Persona 3.

Anyways, on to what I've been playing ... I tried .hack//infection and while the story is very intriguing, the gameplay is so painfully boring that I just can't bring myself to play it.

I'm itching for a pretty good action-oriented rpg, so I will probubly be starting up Tales of the Abyss or Tales of Legendia.
Persona 3 next week! Woo woo!
I haven't been this excited about a sequel to a game I hated since Tales of Symphonia.

Dang, there are so many rpg releases in summer time period. I'm guessing that the niche games are going all out before the big mainstream games will come in 3rd or 4th quarter. I doubt I will continue my goal of trying to beating every rpg that release this year of 2007. It doesn't matter anyway I wasn't even close to that goal

Right now, I'm try to finish Aedis Eclipse: Generation of Chaos to be ready for Persona 3. That game is really long, it take about 60 -70 hours to beat that includes 3 different storyline. It play more like slightly inferior Dragon Force with some minor differences in game mechanics

Persona 3 delay makes me sad. Yes, I have Riviera and Tales of the World, but my portable gaming is a seperate entity from my console gaming. And I'm starved for a console RPG.

I didnt mind the delay initially but now with the whole Aug.14 th thing Im getting a bit peeved. Im being reminded of a time where the Kof 94 rebout got pushed and pushed and pushed and then eventually was just scrapped, just this isnt as bad... I hope.

I have a SMT Nocturne question since we're on sort of a Persona thread.

I've been SMT Nocturne for a -long- time now. I'm in the tower of Katsguchi (sp?). I've finished all the kapla's and unlocked pierce for my character.
However, I hear you need the demon who has pierce to beat final boss (spoiler) Luicifer . But to get to that demon you have to summon Seraph Metreon (sp), right? And according to fuse him according to the dobulejump guide you need fuse all the seraphs together and be level 94.

I'm at level 76 or so now. I'm enjoying the game and don't know if I should just try and finish it at this point or do I need to really level grind to level 94 in order to get the demon with pierce?

Thanks.

Unlocking the Pierce Skill
Marogareh, the first Magatama you receive, has a skill on it that is listed simply as a question mark. It is impossible to earn this skill for your Protagonist through normal level raising. Once you complete the Labyrinth of Amala's Fifth, and final, Kapla, the skill will be unlocked. However, finishing the game in this manner locks in a certain ending and the others become unavailable. The choice is up to you, but the result is worth seeing on one of your play throughs.
Demons under your control can learn Pierce in a more roundabout method; however, this method does not require you to finish the Fifth Kapla and thus does allows you to reach one of the other endings. In the Fifth Kapla defeat Metatron to unlock him in the Cathedral of Shadows. Once he is fused, place him in your party and make your way to the doorway that can only be opened by "one of light". This time around you can open the door since Metatron is in your party. Make your way through this area to the Shady Broker, who will be selling the demon Gimimahkala for 200,000. This particular Gimimahkala holds the skill of Pierce, which can be transferred through Sacrifice Fusions if so desired.

Well now that I have a several week gap before Persona 3 comes out, should I start VP2 (which I am really not in the mood for) or try to hunt down Tales of the Abyss? I really feel like a sucker paying full price for TotA this long after release, but I've gotta get my PS2 RPG's over with sometime... I'd get it for $35 from Amazon, but I feel as if it would take at least a week to get here, which would piss me off to no end.

Thanks.
yo that final boss is a BITCH!! it took me like 4 times to beat him, and each battle was like 2 hours!! no lie.

but to tell you tho, I was also not even level 80 so I had to take the battle HELLA slow.

I remember how I did it was have two characters with healing and stat boosting / stat lowering spells, Dante, and my main hero with Pierce.

Hero did pierce every round, in hopes of getting a critical hit, with dante I also used high scritical rate moves becoz I wanted those extra turns!

the other two guys were strictly stat boosting until we were maxed and the boss was max assed, then I had to heal every round to keep my HP up (since pierce consumes HP)

I think I also had a magatama that could void certain attacks to help me on the defensive (in addition to my max evade / enemy lowed accuracy)

anyways, take it slooooooooow and u will eventually beat him, which I think is better than spending that time level grinding

No, Pierce doesn't use HP. It just activates automatically when the enemy has defense against physical attacks.
Anyway the doublejump guide is essential.

o yeay, then what I meant was use an HP consuming skill w/ hi critical rate with pierce!!

lol, been a long azz time since I beat it

I think it will be a long 'azz' time (can't believe I used that word) before I beat it. Been playing this game for nearly two years now.

Just marathoned my way to the 30 hour mark, and according to some FAQ's I'm only 60-65% done. Which is going to make it hard to finish by Friday. Just checked my time on Tales of Symphonia, and I played for a leisurely 62 hours. So this might not work out so well.

I just finished Tales of the World yesterday. Last boss is pretty annoying when it have 1/3 of it's remaining life points; it's attack damage increase significantly and does high damaged unavoidable magical attack. I have to level grind a bit to defeat it. I can't believe there is 300 side quests in this game. Each quest is equal to .3% (.003) and one of them is round to .4% to make numbers even. The good part is most of quests are very short.

I won't even bother completing that game. Too focused on playing my remain psp and ds games before that gamestop trade in deals expires.

Just finished Xenosaga III. Pretty good ending.
Allen is fucking awesome.

MOMO + Blood Dancer + EK Sigma + Heaven's Door = Incredibly uber and broken.

I should go back and finish TotA.

I dunno, I didn't like it. I felt battles were choppy, load times were horrendous (at least on the world map... takes like 8-10 sec to get back to the freakin map after a fight), and the characters weren't that great. Even Jade, the coolest character bar none, wasn't that cool.

ToS was better.

About to go and play some more Stella Deus. Im about 30hrs into it so far and really enjoying it. Hoshigami Remix on the other hand can be a real bitch sometimes. Im enjoying that one as well despite it being tough.
