Army of Two - Gen. Discussion & Info - Ships 3/4

CAGiversary!
This is a game that had been on my personal hype wagon for sometime. There's one review for the 360 version and the PS3 version. I heard some bad previews in regards to the game and it had fallen off my radar. We'll see.. hopefully its an high quality game like Burnout Paradise.

The review magazine indiated that the game in single player mode was a 71, and in co op was an 85. The 360 review gave the game an 87 overall.

we're talking about the PS3 version here.. duh if this is a duplicate, then close your 360 forum for Burnout Paradise and use ours..

Been looking at this game since it was announced. I hope i like it because games like dark sector have done really bad with the ps3 and im really getting aggrivated over that. But as far as getting this game..its in my maybe pile

I've just checked out a few trailers, and read a couple of reviews ranging from low to high 80s, so I'm actually really inruiged by this. May well pick this up if I can get a good price.
dead link to the 360 review?!?
I've updated the link. It's basically a magazine (i think) Pelit from Finland giving the 360 version an 87 from Dec. 2007.

To much hype was involved with this game also since they delayed the launch I dont really want to pick this up at all. I think it will be like kayne and lynch hype and DEATH!!!!

I'm gathering from various people's impressions that this game lands firmly in the 7-8 range and is decent but I'm sure as hell not paying full retail for it. It's an EA game without any legs; the price will drop like a stone.

I got a feeling that I'm going to enjoy this game to death... only thing is.. its coming out almost simutaneously with God of War COO.... so it might have to wait... I would rent it.. only thing is that I never buy games after I rent them.

The game might turn out to be pretty good, it was pulled just before the release, so hopefully the devs made the necessary improvements.

More reviews coming in :whistle2:

PSM3 UK - 78/100
G4 X-Play - 4/5
GameDaily - 8/10
GamePro - 4/5
IGN - 7.9/10

Pretty solid so far. Really thinking about picking this up.

Anyway, I check out this vid and towards the end it mentions online co-op vs, where you can go 2 vs 2. Sounded cool, but haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else.

Thinking about getting this as well I am waiting for some more reviews I did notice in the x-play review they mention that the six-axis parachute part isn't fun.

This game could easily turn out to be one of those "I can't believe I paid full price for this" I think that this game maybe one of the last EA games to perhaps start its development on the 360. I want for this game to have a Burnout Paradise level of quality.
Anyone know how long this is? There doesn't seem to be any mention of the length in any of the reviews.
I heard on one that it's in the 10-12 hour range.

The game looks really interesting and I would love to play online with a friend, but I don't have the cash for it at the moment. Too many other games. If it hits $40 I'll probably pick it up. It does look like a cool co-op game.

Does the game have voice chat?

so X-play gave this a 4/5 and they compared it to gears(which they really love by the way) its a big surprise for me. IGN however gave it a 7.9, because of lack of single player. I dont care about single player when the game's star is co-op.

You know 4/5 and 7.9/10 are pretty much the same thing right?

When reading the IGN review, it can't help but make me frown a little, because they somewhat complain about the PS3 version lacking accomplishments.

The game has turned out better than I thought, but I'll wait for a demo (if there is one).

So even when accomplishments become available, this game simply won't have them?
So even when accomplishments become available, this game simply won't have them?
Naw, they are just complaining they didn't receive any while playing, like they did with DMC4. We really don't know what will happen, and we don't even know whether accomplishments on DMC4 will even tie in with Home.

Still, the accomplishments were done very very well with DMC4. Although I don't care too much about them, other people do so more companies should put some effort into putting them in :)

any game can add accomplishments via an upgrade.. but I'm wondering is there a way for people to show off, or even view their completed accomplishments at this time.... I remember I got some from Darkness.. which had some accomplishments. (or am I dreaming).
I bought this game today. If anyone wants to play some coop, add me to your PSN friends and send me a message. So far, it's fun.
Dude, could you check and see if you can invert the controls. X and Y. Thanks.

A game may be able to add accomplishments retroactively, but you would have to replay the game to get them. Unless the game stores everything you have done in it's save game, it would have no way of knowing what you had already done. Some games may be storing this info, but it would seem odd that they would go tot the work of tracking this info, and not do anything with it.

Even if DMC doesn't tie in with Home, the fact that it tracks all that info means that a patch could easily tie in your past achievements with home. Or resistance tracks stuff, so that could probably be easily patched for home trophies, etc.

I definately was hoping to see a full review from somebody on here... :)

I will likely rent this either this weekend or next when I know I will have someone around to play. If nobody puts anything up by then, I'll share my thoughts.

We'll I finally picked it up today and I'll try to give some impressions by the end of the weekend, presuming no one else has.

BTW, thanks for the reply MaskedPlague.

Me and a friend just ran through the whole thing today. The storyline and voice work is fantastic. I could easily see this turned into a movie. Campaign is good, though short which has been mentioned. But the story does not drag any, which is good. However some of the co-op features like back to back is rather useless, or unpolished. You can only do it at certain times, and its slow and clunky to me.

Online multiplayer isn't as good as it could be. It feels tacked on. The ideas are there- 2 teams competing over the same objectives, money, etc. but it doesn't play as smooth as story mode. Also you can not use any of the story upgrades, guns, etc in online matches. You can do 2 players on 1 system via split screen, for online matches. Also I have been unable to even finish an online match due to I assume EA's servers keep dropping matches. This also happened a lot in campaign.

My friend and I discussed keep or sell, and we decided on sell. Theres nothing to bring you back to campaign, unless you want a harder difficulty, or all the guns. Also with Vegas 2 on the way, it will kill Army of 2 in terms of tactical shooting.

So overall a fantastic campaign thats over soon, and not much to do afterwords. All the ideas are there, and maybe in a sequel can be polished better. IGN's current review is pretty spot on, except I didn't find the online multiplayer that great.

I dont even remember this part, to be honest. When we played they never force you to co-op snipe. Its even mentioned a few times by the characters but we only did it once. :whistle2:k

So you never had to go through the training section ????

Ohh yeah, training. Dont really remember much of that. My friend said it was just a button hit to initate co-op snipe, R1 + left

Ahhh yes only if it was that easy,I wish I had hair to rip out at this point, this game looks promising if I can GET THROUGH TRAINING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:bomb:

The training thing was frustrating. The tutorial looks like arrows for the d-pad, but they are actually in the shape of the d-pad. So the left arrow is actually the shape of the right of the d-pad. Maybe this will help.

how many people are playing this online? I'm thinking of picking this up? Can you play the coop campaign online as well?

To be honest I hven't tried the online vs yet, but you can do campaign co-op, either split screen or online.

To be honest as far as I'm concerned this is a good rental. Campaign is worthwhile, but I'm not sure the multiplayer will be great or have longevity. I'm priobably gonna flog this in a week or two once I'm done.

flog? as in beat or sell?

played this split screen last night with my brother in law.

it's a mixed bag.

overall i had a lot of fun but it's hard to not compare it to COD4... and when you do that the overall presentation is piss poor.

the graphics aren't very impressive. the voice acting is poor. and the training / tutorial was bad -- they basically show you what to do, give you one time to do it and from then on you are expected to know what to do.

i'm also tired of game mechanisms that they could have automated, but instead they left to be manual. opening doors requires 2 buttons... why? step jumping is a series of buttons and movements but adds no FUN to the game. And completing objectives is the same. All of these could have been easily replaced with cut scenes or in-engine animation that was automated, instead we're stuck trying to remember what buttons to press.

with all that said i want to stress that i don't hate the game. in fact i actually enjoyed it and am looking forward to completing the co-op campaign. the 2 team combat system is interesting and the aggro system seems to work just right. it took a while for us to adjust our playstyle to duck & cover, but once we did it felt good.

the weapons and upgrades give this game a lot of replayability and variety. haven't tried online yet, but that will be the determining factor of whether or not this moves from a rental to a buy.

with a little more polish this could have been a must buy title. unfortunately the presentation leaves a bit to be desired and I tend to agree with reviews that give it around a 80/100.
