Plans are apparently underway to bring “Arrested Development” to the big screen.

(Ah, nothing feels better than giving a short-lived series - well, “Arrested” lasted a reasonable 3 seasons - a reprieve on the big screen, does it?)

Speaking to TV Guide, star Alia Shawkat said "Mitch [Hurwitz, the creator] actually recently told us that there is a good possibility for a movie, and that he's talking to Ron Howard about it."

Ronny, of course, is one of the show’s producers. He also narrated the series. If anyone can make it happen, Fonzie’s pal can. (And let’s face it; it’ll save Jason Bateman from the inevitable “Teen Wolf Again”).

I say it will, because there's always money in the banana stand.

Personally, I hope if they do make it, it totally caters to fans of the show, leaving all non-fans in the dark.

That's what they get for not watching.

Does it really need it? I thought everything was pretty well finished at the end there. There isn't much need to wrap anything else up like there was for Firefly, for example.

That said, I'll still watch it if they make it, but I'll be shaking my head in my mind.

He also owns Imagine Entertainment production company, which produced Arrested Development (along with shows like 24 and movies like The Da Vinci Code). If Ron wants to make a movie, the movie will be made. From what I understand Ron loves AD, so I think the chances of a movie are pretty good.

I bet it'll be more like Serenity, having some in jokes that only fans will get, but most of the movie will be something everyone will understand. Hopefully the movie will be very succesful and have a bunch of sequels (or a new TV show).
A movie is nice and all, but I really wish they would have went through with continuing the TV series on another network.
I agree the Showtime deal (two 13 episode seasons with an option for a third season) was great, but I wouldn't have wanted the show to go on without creator Mitch Hurwitz.

I doubt they will actually go through with that. Moviehole is known for being one of the most untrustworthy sites on the 'net (I know of people who've sent in tiny completely BS "tips" and they've been published there).

Plus, why would they want to make a movie out of a show that did very poorly? The bottom line for studios is $, and Serenity's semi-bombing probably took away any chance this had of being made.

Not to mention the fact that the creator has publicly stated numerous times that he's done with the show and wants to move on (they already wrapped things up in the finale anyway).

Don't get your hopes up.

Their source is Alia Shawkat, who played Maeby on Arrested Development. She was asked about a possible AD movie in a TV Guide Interview.

AD creator Mitch Hurwitz has said he would be willing to do a movie.

As for it getting made, Ron Howard owns the company that produces AD (along with 24 and movies like the Da Vinci Code).

Serenity did do pretty poorly at the box office, but comedies are becoming big hits these days, and I could see a studio exec watching AD and deciding that it could work very well on the big screen, brining in all of the fans of the show and with funny, well made ads (not shitty ads like Serenity had), people who have never seen an episode of Arrested. Plus, with all of the movies Will Arnet is doing I can see him becoming a big star like Steve Carell.

Yeah, I was really hoping that the Home Builders Organization or SOMEBODY would pick them up, but I guess this is the next best thing.

id rather they didnt make a movie and either continued the show or did like a miniseries on tv. ya know like 2 or 3 2-hour episodes during sweeps or something like that.

Remember when they sold off basically every famous prop from the show on ebay a few months back?

Unless the movie is already shot, I label this, highly unlikely.

I guess it's impossible for them to make new props right? I wonder how many of the props in Serenity were from Firefly.

Not impossible, but something tells me that if they sell off everything they have, chances are, they don't have replacement in mind.

Just because Fox made the show, doesn't mean they would make a movie. I'm sure Fox just wanted to make back whatever money they could from Arrested. Plus I get the feeling that even if they did save a bunch of the props they would just build new ones with more detail for a movie anyway.
