Assassin's Creed - 7.5 IGN.com

ohhh...that's it...that makes sense. I've been pressing Square for the kill everytime that happens. The counter kills with the short blade and the hidden blade are the best imo. The sword kills are pretty well done but the short/hidden blade just looks a lot cooler lol.

I'll go back and try it. I just beat the game... I thought it was pretty good. Dunno about the ending though
yay time to wait another at best 1 year to worst case 3+ years for the continuation :( Maybe it'll be back in modern times or another ancestor from a different time period. Dunno what else they could use the crusades era for. That was kinda creepy with the hidden messages and stuff at the end. Anybody know if those blocks of letters are supposed to say anything?

Oh and also, for some reason at for the last mission when I'm in Masyaf, there is some serious slowdown. Maybe 10-15 fps. Even though there's nothing different from before. I don't know why it's like that, and actually after having beat the game and replaying a previous memory, it was running smooth for a bit, then after I got in a fight with a guard it started slowin down again and hasn't let up. No idea what's goin on. It smooths out when fading into the map and menu, but then goes back to choppy upon re-entering the game. Ubisoft should have spent a little more time with the ps3 version... I just took a horse out of choppy Masyaf, and it gradually got better till it was normal speed again...weird

oh i just figured out the jump assassination from an elevated ledge too. When you're in range, you gotta press R1 and hold X. When you hold those two buttons down, you'll see the square button come up with "Assassination". Then have at it. Tested it out on civilians and soldiers in Masyaf lol.

From Ubisoft forum manager,

"Following our recent statement regarding the freeze issues that some consumers are facing with Assassin’s Creed on PlayStation 3, we can confirm that we are actively working on a game update. This update will help improve the stability of the game and will be released as soon as possible. In the meantime thank you for your ongoing feedback and patience." - forums.ubi.com

Personally I guess I'm lucky, so far at least. I'm a few hours in a still no hiccups.

I have it happen maybe three times in the past week. The patch is good news.

Does anyone find the color in this game a little washed out like other multiplatform games?

My game froze yesterday night around midnight.I was running when it froze.I could move the camera and hear the sound but everything else,no go.

same for me too.. froze yesturday for the firs time
I havent had it freeze since the 2.01 update for some reason. I had it freeze at least 2-3 times a day before that.
I lied, I just got two freezes in a row where you can move the camera and sound effects are still going...kind of cool, but crappy. Oh well.

Weird I just got a lock up, while to quit. :whistle2:s I pressed start, then exit and it just stayed on the loading screen forever. A tap of the PS button and quit caused the machine to reset. No biggie since I was finished playing at that point.

oh my... I can take on 5 or 6 guards at one time, I can jump from 200 feet in the air into a small patch of hay, I can leap across buildings. No fear.... of dying, but get me around water, and damn its like immediate game over. Why does every open ended game act like "Swimming" is a part two feature? If there's a flag in a boat... I'm not touching it.

I just picked up the game tonight.

About the freezing....what is everyone doing when it's happening? Are you guys just quitting the game via PS Home button?

Yup. When you quit though, the PS3 reboots.

My game actually froze before I even did my first assassination :)

Oh well.

So far I am liking the game. The reviews are crazy for this. A lot of people are mentioning it gets repetitive down the line. I'm only 1 assassination in and the game is already finding a very repetitive nature. Maybe that's because I've been finding viewpoints and saving citizens in the city that I'm in.

As odd as it sounds, the running, climbing and exploring are a lot more fun to do than the actual combat in the game.

Haha, my thoughts are the same as yours on this one. I enjoy climbing to a view point just to do the leap of faith, it's that much fun.

I do find one thing odd. When the thingy in the corner turns red and your being pursued, you'd think that the people chasing you wouldn't be able to find you if you broke the line of sight and just moved waaaaayyy ahead of them. I mean, I hopped like 20 roofs and just burned the guy, I jump behind a wall in an enclosed area, and about a minute later, he just jumps in there like he has a friggin' beacon on me! Yet, I can leap in some hay RIGHT IN FRONT of them off of a higher point and lose them that way.

Patch coming soon:whistle2:

Well, has anyone experienced any slowdown when playing in Jerusalem the first time you arrive? It's the first time I've gone into the city, but I run into the area of the city that has the blue wall and now the FPS has just slown down dramatically. Weird....

My only major bout of significant fps slowdown was in the last part at the end of the game. That was practically unplayable. It would drop down to maybe like 15 fps and would just seem like everything was slowing down as more time went by. It made fighting very difficult because I could not anticipate when enemies would be attacking. Other than that, everything else was within a (playable) tolerance.

That's exactly what I'm experiencing, except this in in the area that the Bureau is at in Jerusalem and (I'm guessing) am not that far into the game yet :/

I wonder if that patch will also remedy some problems like this.

i played yesterday and the patch was not up someone test and see. However i still haven't had slow down, freezes since 2.01. And my screen tearing is less. I still have psn on but i turned off streaming while i play. Apparently it is up, but i am afraid of dling it and getting bad performance since it is perfect now.

Here is the thread where the offical posted. Made at Fri November 30 2007 09:43 and called "Game update for PlayStation 3 Assassin's Creed is now live".

Looks like some people already have gotten it. I don't even have the game so I can't check.

I just loaded up AC and the patch IS AVAILABLE.

Whether it'll help much I do not know yet.

EDIT: My PS3 just ate my game. There's a crack in the middle, so unless I can return it, I think I'm done.

I finally killed the first 3 targets.

It's been taking me a while since I've been trying to get all the viewpoints. Also I've been taking the time to save as many citizens as I can as well as investigations.

Still pretty fun. The counter-attack is rather handy in this game.

when you get your counterattack move, you should try using different weapons to counter attack too. My favorite is counterattacking with the hidden blade, then the short blade, and finally the long blade. Hidden blade I guess would be more for advanced users because there is no block, but on the other hand you get an instant kill every time, including against templars and bosses.

I guess I'll go ahead and beat this now that the patch is up. I'm right at the end I believe.

Fun and interesting game, but I think a 7.5 is too low but a 9 is too high.

I love doing counter-attacks, so I tend to rile up the locals and fight a group of guards. So far I've run across one "fort" packed with guys, so I had a hell of a time kicking their asses. Oddly enough, the one person I was aiming for, the Templar, dissapeared somehow :whistle2:k

I find countering with the short sword the most fun since it has the highest chance of leaving the person stunned allowing me to choose three ways to have them meet their demise ;D, although the hidden blade is pretty entertaining as well :D

Agreed. Using counter-attack with the dagger/short blade is pretty sweet. It's also really fun throwing guys to the ground, then using the hidden blade for the kill.

I'm currently working on my 7th assassination. I've been doing a lot of the side-missions so I am one bar away from having a full sync bar. Going to try to beat this before Wednesday/Thursday.
Fun and interesting game, but I think a 7.5 is too low but a 9 is too high.
Nah, 7.5 is fair. 8 maybe, 8.5 is pushing it though.

It's a pretty game, I guess, if you like that GTA style of "here's lots of people on the screen at once and they all look alike except you."

The premise of the game, thus far, is shit, IMO. I'll be patient with it, but I was looking for a PoP-style adventure game without all the
memories-of-ancient-ancestors-you're-in-the-matrix-now bullshit narrative
, but this game actually seems, thus far, to be far more built like a Zelda game in terms of growing abilities and exploration, but with that feature too many game have lately with building it in micromission segments. It works in some ways, but not in adventure titles, IMO.

It's fun, I suppose, and I'll probably play through it. I'm not fully content with the title, and I don't think it's even close to great. The "blend" option and "push gently" button work inconsistently enough that there are some obvious design flaws that limit it.

I'm hoping for more challenge in later battles, and also a bit more challenge in stealth assassinations than "hold X and walk right up to a guy to secretly assassinate him."

I give it an 8.5...the underlying game is so detail ridden (in a good way...graphics, sound, physics) and fun plus I personally loved the story (I felt the ending tied everything together nicely for now).

The only thing holding it back from getting higher is the monotony of the middle of the game (cmon, we need some variation in missions) and the easy combat.

I cant wait for the sequel(s) to see how they improve upon a great formula.

The stealth assassinations don't really get past that point until later in the game. Two kills in particular stray away from that formula just a tad. Not enough to make it any less boring though.

As I mentioned before, the odd thing is that the combat/assassinations might be the most boring part of the entire game. I had more fun exploring, climbing towers, doing side missions and doing a "leap of faith".

You'll get more challenging battles near the end too. The last two sections of the game in particular made me want to throw my controller through the TV. I guess that's what happens when the game is pretty easy 85% of the way through and all of sudden the difficulty spikes.

I agree with you as well about the rating of this game. After beating it tonight I'd say it's within the 7.5-7.8 range. Giving it an 8 is a little generous I think.

i must be a terrible assassin cuz I only stealth killed one of the main guys lol...wait...two of the main guys

One time I thought a throwing dagger would kill a boss, but turns out it didn't, so I thought I had this guy but he started running away and I was like "what the heck just happened?"

So yea...just remember though the throwing dagger one hit kills every normal guy, it doesn't work for templars and bosses.

I'm bumping this up because I just beat it. Loved the game, though it is a bit flawed. I loved climbing and navigating around the cities via rooftop, though it seemed like Altair would have tantrums (refusing to grab onto ledges above him or grab onto the roof while jumping across gaps, causing some problems when I needed to getaway). Didn't mind the lack of much variety in missions, though I didn't care for pickpocketing and flag-collecting missions. Interrogations got worse as the game went on, as the targets didn't want to go into alleyways, so I had to beat them up in public, with meatheads fighting me alongside the target. I really didn't like the drunkards (whatever they're supposed to be) that stumbled around and pushed you as you walked by, as they messed up an assassination mission when I got caught in an alleyway full of them pushing me around like it was a game of drunken pinball. My favorite part of the game was just heading up to the rooftops, spotting guards, and picking them off one by one as I completed missions, which probably made the game less tedious for me. The docks were the coolest part of the game, but probably the worst, as well, since Altair can't swim, even in shallow water. The game looks great, but the kills look awful when you're slicing some guy up and the blade made no visible marks other than blood squirting out. I liked the bit of extra stuff you could do at the end
(reading emails on the three computers (and bypassing the lock to the conference room) and reading internal conflict in the company and some of the world news (Mexico trying to keep out American refugees, the term "hurricane season" being dropped since they happen all year round, the second plague, and videogames causing all movie studios in the US to die off .)

One thing I was wondering if others that have played the PS3 version can remember if they've seen severe slowdown in memory block seven when
you approach the assassin's building where all the townspeople are standing in front of the door. I was disappointed to see the game slow down to a crawl, though not surprised when I saw dozens of people in one small area, and wondered if this was a universal thing.

All in all, I loved the game and would probably give it an 8.5.

I picked this up today. Not had a chance to play yet, but I had a gift card and I found it used, so I thought "what the hell".

I know I press L1 to target a person.

Problem is, I sit on a bench, try and target the people I'm supposed to eavesdrop on and .....target the guards....EVERY TIME.

I go up to pickpocket someone, press L1 and target the guard...EVERY TIME.

What the $(*&@# is going on?

Normally when I finish a game, I'm glad its over, and I dont' want to ever touch it again, but with AC, I definitely want to play it some more. Just to go through the towns, get all the flags, etc. The atmosphere was unbelievable, when I think about future role playing games, AC is part of the blueprint.. with its living breathing cities. I wish that there was more interaction with more of the towns people. also Assassins shouldn't drown!

I'm like that with Uncharted actually.

So far.....

Controls - great: when they work.
There are times when I'll be trying to run up a wall and Altair will suddenly launch himself in the air in the opposite direction. I don't know whether it's something I'm doing wrong or whether it's because the building or surface I want to climb is unclimbable. I've already died a few times from it and it's incredibly frustrating.

No bugs or glitches that I've found (except for the fucking jumping in the sudden wrong direction!)

The Premise - Hmmmm.....

Honestly? I would've preferred this as a straight historical adventure. The idea is an interesting one but I think it might've been served better with an Eternal Darkness type idea, going through different parts of history with different characters. Running through the town and suddenly running smack dab into a giant blue wall is really jarring.

I just hope that
the "future" guy doesn't end up escaping the complex using his ancestor's assassin's skills that he learned through VR
because that would be incredibly lame.

Try to have the person you are targetting in the center of the screen, kinda in Altair's sight line.

Dammit.
You made me realize that I missed getting the dude's pen or whatever in order to log into his computer. Shit. I just finished the game and saw your spoiler post. One thing that I don't like now is that there's no way to go back to get it either.

Oh, and my game didn't slow down when I approached the Assassin's building, so it's not universal.

Kind of a disappointing/weird ending. No real closure on anything, especially since you can still walk around and do stuff.

Yea my game slowed down to a crawl too. It happened on the way up to the building and on the way out back to town as well. Couldn't really see where I was going or what I was doing during fights. After about 10 minutes it finally started to clear up and eventually went back to normal speed, but that was really annoying. Pausing and going to the map screen was all normal speed the whole time.

Something else that annoyed me, that someone might be able to tell me:

Does anyone know why you can't have two game saves? I tried to start a second new game and it told me that my previous game data would be erased?

Why the hell is this? What's the point of not being able to have two game saves at once? What if I have a friend that wants to play his own game?

That's too much work.

It's like this too with Rainbow 6: Vegas. You can just replay whatever level (Assassination) you want. But the thing that sucks is that with AC it won't go back to the cutscenes in the lab. And that's the part that I want to see again because I missed a couple things.

I just beat this game the other day and have to say that I loved it! The missions got a bit repetitive, but the art direction and atmosphere were both excellent. It was like a mini-sandbox version of Prince of Persia. I for one am very much looking forward to future games in the series.

For what it's worth, I had no issues on my 60-gig from start to finish.
