Assassin's Creed PC requires dual-core processor

ARGH! :bomb:

I was on steam because I heard that they have assassin's creed available for preorder on PC, but it REQUIRES a dual-core processor!
Come ON. Seriously. They're not that common yet.
Gah.

Anybody else pissed?

It's an afterthought of a port. Both consoles that this game was made for had multi-core processors so it was probably a lot less work to just say "the PC version is going to need dual core as well".

Also, this game looks really good.

I bought this game recently, and I can tell you the console version is better. Having played/finished it on Xbox 360 I can tell you now that the controls are WAY more suited to Console than PC WASD controls.

As for the game, I have a pretty High end machine (ie. 8800GTS 512MB, Quad-core etc) and it lags ocasionally in high populated areas so it's not very well optimized.

The visuals however do look more sharper than the Xbox 360 version and the Textures are of higher resolution.

If you have the PC to play this game and DON'T have an Xbox 360 or PS3 this game is worth picking up. The ending however will make you curse outloud however.

No, considering Dual-Core processors have been common for the past 3 years.

yea, pretty much every pc but a low end laptop comes with a dual core cpu now.

Then again, you can just as easily complain about the other system requirements for assassin's creed on the PC. Because frankly, if you don't have a dual core cpu yet, you probably can't run it well. Considering the fact that the specs required are more than crysis.

this seems strange to me..... because games rely much more on the graphics card than the actual CPU. I'd like to see if it will install on a non dual core CPU, I have a feeling it would, and if you had a good enough video card, you would be all set.

but on a side note... come on. if you do PC gaming at all, you have to know that you NEED to keep up with the hardware (which is why I switched to console gaming for the most part) Dual cores have been out for 2-3 years now, so if you playing games on a 2-3 year old PC, its probably time to upgrade anyway.

Graphics cards are mostly for graphics... the CPU is needed for AI and usually physics (though the graphics card helps a bit with physics). So one core would probably be dedicated to AI while the other would handle the other processing tasks.

I'm not surprised it needs a dual core CPU as there's a lot of NPCs about doing things on their own.

I'm more annoyed that it only supports PCI-Express GPUs. I went Dualcore when AMD lowered all their prices to clear out the 939's, but I'm still running a GF 6800 GS AGP. I just can't justify a new mobo/cpu/gpu right now, when my rig will run most of what I want to play reasonably well anyway.

It even lists 6800's as capable for playing the game... but then that little asterisks' just ruins everything.

According to myself, Ubisoft just sucks at optimzation (post Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, which ran pretty-damn good on my older machine).

Yeah, I'll substantiate that. Ubisoft is legendary for releasing clunkers. R6:V can barely run on my current machine, which competently runs TF2 at 1920x1200 with medium settings.
Ubisoft probably didn't expect a PC port of the game to generate much revenue anyways.
I don't know but my local Wal-Mart and other stores seemed to have gotten 10+ copies in the first week. That's pretty high for a PC game anyways, and it looks like Ubisoft is expecting this to atleast sell 100k+ in the US, which again is high for a PC game when your not counting digital distribution and warez.

Oh and for those worried about requirements, a lot of posts on Gamefaqs say they have a 8600GT (and they aren't OC) that can run this game at max settings, multisampling at 1 and not the highest resolutions without any issues. A dual core is cheap to btw...

this was running pretty decently on my aging dual core and a 8800 gt.

i was on 1080p resolution as well. im sure though ill have to drop that a bit once i get out of the beginning tutorial stages

Haha, I had a good laugh watching this. Ubisoft needs to get some REAL UI/X designers.

I thought this game was going to be ground breaking when I first glimpsed it in Game Informer. Nope. Give it a try on any console just to see the graphics because they are breathtaking. However, rent if you can. Performing the same actions over and over and over makes it no better then Donkey Kong Jr., which is no slight to the ape.
However, rent if you can. .
You can rent PC games? Let me know where.
There is no demo for this yet, which is ultra lame considering the PC market NEEDS demos to test performance.

Unless you mean renting for a console, but this is the PC forum, granted most of us probably have a 360 or PS3.
