The sequel to the award-winning Xbox LIVE® action extravaganza, Assault Heroes™ 2 continues to ramp up the excitement. Your original enemy was just a pawn of a more sinister alien force, and now you must fight on both land and in space to overcome this new threat. Fight alone or work with a friend in the enhanced two-player cooperative mode. Employ bigger and stronger weapons and enjoy a more intense on-foot combat experience. Battle through the extensive and intense levels in your trusty 4x4, or hijack enemy vehicles for even greater firepower. Take on even more relentless enemies and face-off with the most outrageous bosses you have ever seen on your way to the climactic battles in outer space!

  • Enhanced multiplayer co-op: Quickly activate improved cooperative weapons to rain destruction on hordes of bazooka soldiers, kamikaze bombers, and more.
  • Hijackable enemy units: Steal the attack helicopter, armored tank, or mechanical walker from the enemy base for surprise attacks.
  • More powerful weaponry: Utilize a superior arsenal of weapons including the newly designed sub-zero freezing ice cannon, homing missiles, rocket launcher, and upgraded firearms from the original.
  • Frantic on-foot action: Survive on-foot warfare while equipped with all your weapons in expansive underground areas.
  • Monstrous bosses: Face off against challenging mechanoid beasts before they destroy you.
  • New diverse and interactive environments: Blast through the Snowy Mountains, Rainforest and Outer Space with extensive destructible terrain from burning trees to shattering buildings.

Assault Heroes 2 is one of my most anticipated XBLA games as I loved the fun nature of the original. On Major Nelson's website podcast, he interviews the game designer and then mentions that it will come out this week.
Among the changes mentioned in this version is a fourth default weapon (ice gun), the ability to use all four weapons on foot, not leaving underground areas if you die and hijackable vehicles. Also there will be a space level, which should be fun. I'm certainly picking this one up!

I'll probably grab this as I enjoyed the first one quite a bit with friends. The new stuff sounds interesting and I remember hearing something about the game being quite a bit longer than the first, which is a definite plus.

Thoughts? Impressions? It didn't strike me as all that different from the first, at least in the demo. I'm not sure if I'll pick this one up right now, but I think I will finally get the first one since it dropped to 400 points.

They are a lot of fun, but for some reason, they just feel too... generic? to me, to be worth 800 points.

I'd say if you were a fan of the first, you'll like this one. There's not much you can do with the top down scrolling gameplay but they have added some nice additions and more weapons/levels. I haven't tried Co-op but the first one was a blast with Co-op.

Impressions: I like it!

I am only up to Area 9 and so far It does feel almost exactly the same as the first game but there are all sorts of little things that make it different, these "things" I am talking about are actually level elements and not changes to the Gameplay mechanics.

Suicide bombers now jump from cliffs and Climb across ropes. The Hijackable vehicles are a good addition, but the Helicopter gets shot down way to easily. There was also a section I came across where you have to go through a field of poisonous plants and the fumes from them act as an intoxicant and make you drive all weird.

The only big mechanic to the core gameplay that seems to have changed is that it seems like your main vehicle gets destroyed more easily and you have to go on foot much more often, but this is balanced by a faster reloading health bar and a quicker respawning vehicle. Grenades are much more plentiful and Nukes are also found about the level. There are also parts where you must exit the vehicle and go on foot as well as the traditonal areas where it is optional to do so.

So far I am really liking it.

Haha yea the green plants in the jungle level were trippy and your controls are messed up a bit but not as much as when Niko gets drunk! Still enemies are shooting at your! Oo I read OXM's review online and they didn't like all the mechanical beasts, what?! come on, mechanical guerrillas man! The farthest I've gotten to is Area 9 or 10 so I can't say anything about the space part either. Ah I've been very impressed with the on foot areas, not just traversing bunkers anymore. True about the helicopter though but the tank is well a tank!

Wow. Not much in terms of reaction in the thread yet. It's unfortunate that these types of games are $10 because most likely people would be frothing at the mouth to buy this game for $5.

But at the 800 MS point range, it's just another game for most people.

Feels way to similar to the first game, which I bought. Long initial load, same weapons (with one new one)

Notice the first had a option for DL content, which was never offered. I'm sure this game uses the same engine. They're trying to squeeze players out of an extra $5...

This game is much longer than the first one and has new features in the levels themselves. I dont think it would make sense for this to be DLC. $10 is a fine price for it.

I agree but most arcade titles are hard to find matches. I think it's worth the bucks, I loved the first and the second is more goodness. I also think nobody will bite because AH1 is 5 bucks. My friend is asking me if its any good and I think so. I did co-op with my bro which is really fun and that was the main selling point for me.

It's just a shame that so much work goes into Online multiplayer and then hardly anyone plays it.

It's been a long time since I've found a XBLA game I thought was worth purchasing (only Poker Smash and Rez for me this year), so maybe my standars were lowered. Anyway, I was impressed enough to buy it since I did enjoy the first an awful lot.

I might pick this up later this week. I have an ass ton of point thanks to the Target sale this past week. If anybody wants to co-op this MOFO, let me know.

I loved the first game and 200/200ed it, but this one's not as good overall. They actually made part 2 too long. It'll take 3-4 hours to beat. Starting in the space levels, things get really repetitive. I kept wishing for it to be over, but it just kept on going and going, to Zone 30. Instead of 1 jungle level, you get 3. Instead of 1 space level, there's like 5... But not enough inspiration to make them feel unique and fun.

However, the graphics, the few standout levels and boss encounters (such as the first boss), and the new weapon, are great. I could see some people overlooking the lack of inspiration and loving the game, but I still feel somewhat letdown.

I lost sleep because I was playing the game and trying to finish it. Frankly I was continuing to see what and how the story ended. You can just bring up the menu and exit the game give yourself a breather. You don't have to keep playing. I love that an arcade title has that much longevity to a playthrough. Its a sequel, lol why would they have the same amount of levels. I'll be on late tonight if anyone wants to co-op a few zones or take a run at the campaign.

I think you missed my point. Longer isn't worse (though for an arcade style game to go on and on is a little unintuitive), but most of the levels themselves aren't unique or interesting. If there were 30 great levels, that'd be fine. You know, like how every one of the first game's levels was great. Well, this game has about 10 good/great levels and 20 filler levels. You're just doing the same thing over and over. If the developers were a little more creative, the game'd just be fantastic.
