i'm about 2/3 of the way through it right now, and I'm enjoying it so far.

HOWEVER I'm a sucker for Horror themed games, as such I would only recommend this to fans of the horror genre.
The reason for this is that the game is really just about enjoying the spooky atmosphere of the game, running from bad ghosts, and solving puzzles. You cannot fight any of the ghosts you see, you simply must run away till you can find a way to sneak-past/get-around them and get rid of the force that is making them evil(evil fog)... then you can talk to them and find out what they were needing/looking for when they died, this will allow them to "move on" to the afterlife.

The presentation is pretty well done. The graphics look pretty decent for the PS2, and the graphical style is kind of moody and spooky(or about as moody or spooky as a moonbase can get). The game is viewed entirely from the first-person perspective, looking thru the visor of your spacesuit which is really cool.

The controls are decent enough, you can configure them to the typical 1st-person set-up which is nice. Your character moves and turns as slow as hell(I guess to simulate the huge space suit he's wearing) which makes ghost encounters much more panicky.

As for "Scare-Factor", this game never approaches the scariness of fatal frame or silent hill... but it's genuinely spooky and has the panic factor (as you try to get away from a ghost before your heartrate goes thru the roof and you die of fright) that games like clocktower 3 did.

I've enjoyed this game so far, it's not perfect by any means(I'd still give it only a 6 or 7 out of 10) but if you are a fan of horror games and enjoy the story and atmosphere regardless of the gameplay style... then it's definitely worth your 10 bucks.

I was unlucky enough to buy it used for $20 from gamefly. A mere 2 days after I received it in the mail EB drops the price to $10 NEW!!!.... but I'm not bitter.... nope...

..just on a side note, this game has the coolest intro and intro-music I've seen in a long time... my opinion only.

I picked up Echo Night since my girlfriend is a fan of From Software's King's Field series and it seems to use the same engine as Ancient City and possibly even as far back as Eternal Ring.
