Atelier Iris Trilogy Complete Set (PS2-Reprint) $89.99 AC at GameQuest Direct

Nice! I'd pick it up if I already didn't own 1 and 3. Those games are way fun, collecting and making things via alchemy was way fun.

Trust me I already have money in the market and I know a thing or two about business having a degree and a nice paying job. So don't give me your dumb lecture about investing.

Some of us do both collecting and playing. Would you want to see your $40 investment in a game tank in value cuz greedy ass GQD reprints every goddamn RPG ever made? No you wouldn't nobody would because what if you want to resell it and you get screwed cuz of a reprint like this one?

Don't worry. Every good/classic RPG will become a PSOne Classic, PS2 Classic, PSN Game, Xbox Live Arcade Game, Virtual Console Game, or whatever.

You have an original, they have a reprint (I'm pondering about getting the reprint since I've never played them). It should be worth more.

These never had the white sony sticker on them so it will be hard to tell by an average joe

Apparently they didn't teach you common sense.

I've had several rare games that I own reprinted. I don't care. If a game is good, I want as many people as possible to be able to play it, and they shouldn't have to spend a fortune to do so. If a game is bad...well, no one cares in the first place.

True that. And from a playing standpoint get them. They were excellent games. I just wish that GQD would not reprint almost every niche RPG. Oh well at least other people get to enjoy them I guess.

Did this series really need a reprint? I know the games have been OoP for a while but they were exactly valuable, unless you have sealed copies I guess.
Games are not an investment, they're entertainment. If you want to invest your money, look into stocks & bonds.
Bonds are a safer investment than games but stocks in the past year haven't exactly been solid.

Yeah, but I assume that there will be something a little bit different about it so that collector's will know.
(Personally I think it would be better if the box art was a little bit different.)

Also, the average joe will never play Atelier Iris. Not even the reprint.

true. but no, the reprints will be exactly the same. Sometimes there are some small color differences but yea.

It seems odd that anyone seems to think the company cares about collectors. The resale value of these games is of no concern to the people involved in making them, as they get nothing from that. Any game will be reprinted as long as the makers think they will sell. This has always been true, and always will be.

Panzer Dragoon Saga and Shining Force 3 say hi.

In other news, its still good to see they have over 250 of the "limited edition" Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliances on PS2!
ugh i got a feeling that they are eyeing the Xenosaga games too
Eh -- I wouldn't hold your breath. The Fatal Frame series was one thing, but reprints for GQD seem to be isolated to Atlus distributed titles (Yes, NIS games are distributed by Atlus, read the fineprint on the back). I don't foresee Namco allowing its games to get reprints, especially since some of its games were released post its merger with Bandai (this may or may not create some legal/licensing hurdles).

Though if GQD were to reprint any games, it should look to reprinting Tales of Abyss for the PS2; now there's a solid RPG that was really under-printed. I have it and would certainly like more gamers to enjoy that game.

Re: the investment thing -- I certainly get it. Then again, all prices are probably going to fall a bit if Sony can ever get PS2 games up for sale on its PSN (aside from PS1 games). Then again, people like having the tangible games, so may be not that much.

On a related note, reprints can in some cases be almost impossible to tell from the original print. Not every new PS2 game was released with that white sticker on the top. I don't think Fatal Frame 3 ever had one and neither did the Ar Tonelico games. So in other words, aside from the memory card holder (which also went by the wayside with recent titles), it might be really hard to tell what exactly is a reprint.

It is not a dumb lecture.
Also, the other guy wasn't insulting you or anything, it is just the truth.

Reprints are fine by me.
I have about 350 games in my collection.
GQD can reprint any of my games.
The monetary value is irrelevant to me.
More people get to enjoy the games, isn't that great?!
I love picking up games that I missed in the past at a cheap price.

PS:
I already have all 3 of the Atelier Iris games.
They not bad games, but they're not great either.

PSS
$30 a pop is kind of high for a ps2 reprint.
I think the highest I'm willing to pay is $25 for each one.
enough rambling on my part.
I'll shut up now.

if you had a job, you wouldn't be worried about a $40 "investment" in a video game about lolis
Panzer Dragoon Saga and Shining Force 3 say hi.
As much as I love the above games, let's be honest, no one really cared about them aside from the diehard fans of the series. Even with a final printing of about 15k, PDS still didn't sell out when it was released.

(also, all of the source data was lost on Sega's servers, which would make a remake even pricier)

I don't care.

So, you collect to resell? Any one else find that strange?
I don't care.

Well, I don't know if it's strange but getting all angry over reprints is stupid. I have a pretty large collection myself (180 PS2 games, 135 XBX games and 67 GCN games). While I bought to collect, the thought's crossed my mind about selling off the entire collection.

I think buying to resell may not be wise, but buying with some thought about resale value and the possibility of reselling it isn't "strange" by any means.

Agreed. I think these games are overhyped -- much like the Ar Tonelico series. These games aren't bad but they're hardly worth the price to most gamers. This isn't FF7 -- it's awfully a niche group we're talking about here. I'm sort of surprised GQD opted to reprint this.

I also agree with them being average RPGs (played 1 and 2). No where near the best, but not the worst either. These games don't really shine in any aspect, including it's alchemy system.

I can understand being angry at a rare game you own being less valuable but calm down. I applaud GQD getting us games that we can't find easily.

Must have been a shitty school then if you think investing in games is viable in any sense.

Well, it slipped spellcheck because "irreverent" is a word.

It's an adj. meaning showing a lack of respect.

I dont collect to resell anymore. Who the hell would want to see the value of something they own become less valuable? Sure as fuck not me.
Must have been a shitty school then if you think investing in games is viable in any sense.
Actually it is very viable if you know what the hell you are doing. I didnt have to have a job at all throughout college and for the two years after because of my game savy. Nice try at an insult though.

So you didn't have a job for two years after you graduated from school? It must have been a GREAT school!
So you didn't have a job for two years after you graduated from school? It must have been a GREAT school!
Didnt need to have a job. I did jack shit while studying for my GMAT for grad school since I had a good amount of money saved and money from investing in the market.

My Beemer says Hi to you though.

Nice try again at being a smartass though. Since my "great" school has ended with me having a lot of disposable income, a steady job with a raise coming next month, as well as that BMW. So thank you come again.

So this thread has been pretty much derailed by dick-measuring. Hold on, I'm going to go gather all my cats and dogs for a picture.

Last I checked this was Cheap Ass Gamer, not OOOOOOO Let Me Tell You How Rich I Am Gamer. I don't care and I doubt anyone else does either.

I don't really care either way about "investing" in games and resale value, etc., but I just had to correct this statement: it's "Bimmer," not "Beemer."

Wow, so it is wrong for a company to make money because of you?

I gotta say I agree with ZxT ... I hate paying an arm and a leg for games, but I do like the fact that some are worth more than the original investment.

I also hate GQD for this fact, it's come down to the majority of my what was already small PS2 collection is gone.
