Anyone know of the loading differences between the UMD and PSN versions of R-Type Command?
Weird to be quoting myself, but here goes: I downloaded the demo that I forgot was available. The load times, particularly the battle sequences, were actually okay. Just a few moments, really. I think what would have given the game a bit more spark with the transition from grid to battle sequence would have been some kind of screen flourish or transition rather than freezing the screen and putting that drab "Now Loading..." message at the bottom of the screen. But that's just a minor thing, and I think I'd turn off the animations anyway. This is coming from a guy who sat through the animation load times for Dark Wizard for the Sega CD, heh :)

Further, it's a bit of a dense game in that the UI and data was tough to figure out, particularly since it's not presented like most other common SRPGs on consoles. Not having a better tutorial also kind of makes it a bit to chew on at first. So, be prepared to experiment and some research at the largely locked (and essentially saved) threads on the game at GameFAQs.com. I ended up enjoying the demo for the most part, especially once I played it as a kind of sea/air battle; the fog of war and inability to point your ships backwards really gives it that kind of vibe.

Not a bad deal for a decent SRPG for the PSP. Just know it's not really meant to be Final Fantasy Tactics or Tactics Ogre, but a hex-based strategy game with that challenging Irem flair.
Man this deal makes me want to find a PSP GO for cheap. Is that crazy?

The PSP Go vs 3000 war rages on, and it certainly has no place in this thread. That being said, I recommend you not listen to anyone on this board, and simply buy based on where you want the PSP to fit into your lifestyle.

If you:
- would carry your PSP and its UMDs in a bag
- would prefer to save money buying used UMDs
- would like to play UMD games that are not on PSN (Kingdom Hearts being one of the more prominent titles with that issue)
- would prefer a lower-quality, but slightly larger, screen
- would like to take advantage of the numerous non-PSP Go accessories, such as the camera
Then the PSP 3000 is the system for you.

However, if you:
- would like to keep your PSP and its downloaded games in your pocket (or, in my case, in a cell phone holster on my belt)
- would prefer the convenience, fast loading times, and lack of moving parts involved in playing downloaded titles
- don't mind the absence of UMD-only titles
- would prefer a screen with better color accuracy, brightness, and lack of scan line artifacting over size
- wouldn't miss the non-PSP Go accessories
Then the PSP Go is the better option.

Having tried to integrate the standard PSP (three times over the course of two years) into my daily life, I found that it quickly became more of a burden than a benefit. The size of the standard PSP, coupled with the horrible load times and cumbersome nature of UMD gaming negated any benefit that having a UMD drive may have earned me. Though the standard PSP can also play downloaded games, you're then on the hook for buying some serious flash memory storage, whereas the Go comes with a healthy 16gb of space (in addition to its own memory stick slot). When you list straight functionality, the PSP 3000 is the clear winner, but I maintain that the experience of the Go is much greater than the sum of its parts. I'm just glad I got over the naysayers, looked at the device for what it is, and made my own decision.

Think about how, where, when, and why you'll use your PSP, and you'll figure out which is the right device for you. Just don't do what I did and end up with one of each. Now I need to figure out what I'm going to do with this Kingdom Hearts silver PSP 3000...
I asked this a bit ago but didn't get an answer. Want to try again before sale is up. How is Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble?
I bought it, and actually really enjoy it. It's pretty goofy but for a hand held title it's pretty good. Earlier in the thread I posted Giant Bomb's quick look at the game, which is what sold me on the title. If you have any questions about it, that video is sure to answer it.
