ATT U-verse is coming to the 360

So I can return my second receiver I'm paying $7 a month extra for and use my spare Xbox 360 as a receiver instead? If so that's kind of cool.

The way U-Verse normally works is you have 1 main DVR/receiver anyways and all the other boxes stream through that main box.

So basically using your xbox and live as a glorified STB.

You still need the service and at least 1 STB from AT T

Does nothing for me as U-verse is unavailable.

I do want U-Verse service though.

As long as you have the whole house DVR, you can dump the DVR extender box and use the 360.

Nice to see they finally decided to make this come out, three years after they promised it.

I was looking forward to this, until the price gouging started, read here for the latest news and details on this: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/11/atandt-finally-dates-u-verse-on-xbox-360-coming-friday/

Basically stating that you'll need to buy a $99 kit from them and pay a $55 installation fee which i'm sure most people can probably do themselves. Ah I might just get another box for $5 more a month since I don't think i'll be watching alot of tv. Better yet, just wait and see..

"Nearly four years after announcing that the Xbox 360 would support Microsoft's IPTV Mediaroom platform, and nine months after demoing AT&T's U-verse service running on the gaming console, AT&T has just announced "the Oct. 15 launch of U-verse TV on Xbox 360 for U-verse customers." Want to watch the U-verse service in your gaming dungeon, but don't have an extra receiver? Since the service requires an existing TV box in the household, that's about the only scenario (bedroom maybe?) we can imagine this being useful. If you do sign up, you get the undeniably cool benefit of being able to "receive chat and game invitations from friends through Xbox Live while watching live TV." Or you could wait until early next year and snag Hulu Plus.

Not so fast! In order to get U-verse on your Xbox 360, you'll need to first figure out what kind of customer you are. New customers will need to order the $99 Xbox kit (which doesn't include an Xbox ... in fact, we're not sure what it includes) when subscribing to the service. A U-verse "technician" will load the software onto your Xbox during installation of the service. If you're already a subscriber, Engadget reports that you'll need to buy the $99 kit and shell out $55 for "installation." Again, that installation is loading software on your internet-connected game console.

So it's not as impressive as it sounded in 2007, sure. But who knew we'd have streaming Netflix and Hulu in the future?"

Now that i've thought about it, the consideration is gone. $99 for the kit (which is something like a usb dongle and perhaps a cd disc for installation) + $55 installation fee is too much. When you break it down, an extra box is $5 a month. So $155 total cost for this/$5 a month=31 months of service. Only difference really is you'll have 1 more item to plug in to the wall and a set top box taking up a little bit more space but i'd rather have this than pay that much. They did mess up with the pricing of this and don't know anyone who will sign up for this, it's bullshit.

I was actually looking forward to this because the way my house is wired I cant get TV in my room due to the fact that the U-verse signal can only handle being split 2 times.

Then I see they want $155 for some guy to come out to my house and install a disk that could just as easily be done over the internet (you know, the thing it will be coming in from). fuck THEM. Why cant they just charge $5/month for their stupid dongle and remote and call it a day.

Also does this service require a gold account like netflix? Because that is just another fee that will kill this from ever taking off.
Yeah, fuck that. They fucked up big time on this.
Totally agree.

Yes, i'm pretty sure it'll require xbl gold membership just like netflix, espn and other "premium services". But yeah, you're right $155 in total for all this is too much. Let's see, it'll probably be a usb dongle which isn't really costly and should be the standard $5 a month in place of getting a top box instead and the $55 installation fee is stupid and will probably just be a disc because it's already been stated that it would be an App on the 360 dashboard. Plus, I think I read elsewhere that everything will be streamed instantly like netflix so I don't see why they are charging so much.

$100-$155 for the Xbox Media Remote and an installation disc? What a joke. Hopefully people will loan their install disc or sell it on ebay.
