Its not true simply because he says it. This simply hasn't been the case and never has... The crime occurs when the person authorized to see the information, discloses it to someone who isn't, the reporter. The reporter is under no obligation to anyone, the crime has already taken place, the information has already been disclosed, the damage has been done.
Whether the reporter has the right to not tell a court who gave them the information is a different story.

I would judge that the reporter could in some situations be prosecuted for not providing the source who leaked the info to him. But only in rare cases.
