Recently won an ebay auction and the seller charged $5 for USPS Priority Mail. However when I got the package it was sent 1st class. Is there anything I can do to get back some of the shipping fee?

As long as it's cheaper than getting it at the store I don't usually care how much the cost is because the seller treat the price of shipping as part of their way to recover the ebay fees or recover money because of a low final auction price.

I'm not saying it's right but that's how it is until there's some kind of control.

Honestly, unless you're really upset about it or unless it took much longer than 2-3 days it takes Priority... I'd ignore it.

I'd leave very low "star" feedback, whatever that is called, for description and shipping, and make note in the feedback that they promised Priority Mail but shipped First Class.

I don't know if there are any actual rules against this but to me it's wrong and shouldn't be allowed.

I think you should try to get your money back for the principle of it. If he advertised Priority Mail, that's 2-3 days compared to 5-7 for First Class mail. Granted, he could say that first class mail --> Priority at 13 oz, but still.

I'd say go for it and mention that you may leave harsh star feedback unless they refund the difference.

I've done this myself a few times when selling items... I live in CA, and many of my buyers are in CA. I've discovered that the shipping time for 1st Class and Priority is often the same, while the price for Priority can be double or more. If I see that the buyer is a CA buyer, I will often ship 1st class instead of the stated Priority for this reason. I've never had a buyer complain, but if one did, I suppose I'd refund a buck or two to them.

I say contact seller and ask for difference (if you're really that pissed off).
you can always leave feedback and like someone else said, leave low feedback for shipping AND item description since they advertised Priority but shipped differently

If the auction stated $5 I would not care... they are the same thing.

You would have gotten it a day earlier at most. I don't think $5 is outrageous. You'll get a dollar back, maybe two if anything at all. Not worth the trouble IMO, but if a buck is worth it to you then have at it.

when I've mailed items, the price diffrence for 1st class and priority has been 30-75 cents most of the time. for 5 bucks shipped it must of been a light item. Only time I would bitch is if it was advertised priority, and I got it parcel post. Just leave him/her a low star for shipping charges and leave it at that.

First Class Mail is generally estimated at 2-5 days, at least by the USPS shipping calculator.

i usually could care less about that
i mean as long as it gets there, thats good enough for me.
let the seller earn a couple of bucks afterall they are selling on ebay.

Certainly not right that the seller advertised one service and used another. But as others have said, is really worth it to start a stink? You might have gotten it slightly quicker and paid a $1 less.

I'd call him on it.
He should have just stated flat rate, rather than Priority.

If I think I'm paying for Priority and it's shipped anything else, I call them on it.

Wow, some seriously anal people... I mean sure, if it says priority and it comes 2 weeks later parcel, with a clear price of like 70 cents on the label, maybe then.

But really? It was still first class, jeez. If it were that important time-wise just go pick it up at the store or shop earlier.

If the seller is charging a $10+ difference for priority and first class and the package says first class on it; I'm definitely going to cause a stir, false advertisement on sellers part!
