I have had my ps3 only about a week, and i just started downloading demos. i got infamous, echochrome and super stardust.

stardust and infamous have no sound, but echochrome, my disc batman, and wipeout hd (dl), as well as the xmb have audio.

here is my set up, i have hdmi to the tv, and optical out to a theater amp. the default sound for the ps3 is set to optical. if i switch to multi audio out, i get sound from these demos, but the xmb has an echo, so i don't want to run it this way. is it just a product of the demos? if i buy the full download of stardust, it should work correct, right? i'm assuming infamous wouldn't have any problems.

You should have the default sound set to your optical out, then with the multi-audio it'll go thru HDMI to your tv audio. To help with reverb you really shouldn't have both your tv and home
theatre outputting at once because even a slight difference in latency can cause echo.

that's not the issue, i know why its echoing. the problem is that there is no sound on half the stuff i downloaded.

Did you change the settings in the optical output? I found that I lost sound in certain demos if I turned too many things on in it. I just leave it at the default now and it works fine.

thanks, that didn't quite do it for me, but it got me on right track. i had dts checked, but my receiver isn't dts, unchecking that seems to have fixed it.
