I want to gift someone an audio reciever with 5 speakers. I need any type of advice regarding this stuff. I want something with decent quality and at or under $200. Please help me.

you should check out target, i got a surround sound/dvd player made by magnavox from there a few years ago for less than 200, maybe even less than 150, dont remember exactly now, anyway it works great, i use it almost every day, it even has DTS, i use it in my bedroom and i really like it.

If you don't mind few input options, it's a good price for what you get... here's the input/outputs:

Audio Line IN (Analog) x 1
Audio Input (Front, Mini) x 1
Video Signal OUT (Composite) x 1
Video Signal OUT (Component) x 1
Video Signal OUT (S) x 1
Video Signal OUT (HDMI – Upscale 720p/1080i for DVD) x 1
D.C.A.C. Auto Calibration: Bronze
Speaker Terminals: Front, Surround, Centre, Subwoofer
Headphone Jack: 3.5mm

Hmm, the lack of any digital audio input makes it not very flexible. You should look at something like the Logitech Z-5500 5.1.

Shipping kills the deal I posted above. Now I don't know what to do or who to buy from! I want to get it for someones living room. So any recommendations for a 5.1 system for a living room? Or where to buy from, Best Buy? Newegg? Amazon?

well I am sure most surround sounds are meant for living room shaped rooms :)

Try Circuit City, they usually have free shipping over a certain amount of money, and there is a 10% off coupon through AAA.

I'll look into CC too, I've been looking at Newegg recently. When I say living room I am most concerned about the length of the speaker cables and whether they use proprietary connections. I don't want to have to splice any cables.

Don't buy speakers with hardwired speaker wire in them.... Also, if you buy a home theater in a box set, they all come with very little cable... you're better off buying a receiver and speaker set separate, then picking the type of cable you want.
