I have several files on my computer that are in the AVI format. I want to burn them to a DVD to play on my DVD player. DO I need software to convert it or what is the best method to do what I am wanting to? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
What is the standard file format that DVDs are in?
Thanks!

I use Sonic MyDVD. You can make your own menu's, buttons, music, etc. You just choose the file you want on the DVD and customize it and burn it, thats all. I have made several DVD's with it and it works perfect.

I am using that same software and when I dump my AVI file in during processing it says "could not complete the last command because: Unknown error" any ideas what the problem is?

WinAVI is good for converting video types into DVD ready files. I also use it to burn the files I make, though there may be better programs for that. I don't know how the quality compares to other programs, but it almost always converts the files properly and does the job for me.

Thanks for the suggestion of DVDSanta, rodeojones. If only it didn't take almost two hours to encode a movie for me lol. Oh well, I can't argue with something that works like it should
