Additional information (viewing order):
There are different orders for viewing B5, especially with regards to the TV movies. If you have never watched B5 before, sticking with the main 5 seasons should be fine as long as they are in order. But once you start on the TV movies, watch out for major spoilers in some of them.
Use google on finding your preferred viewing order or you could try this one that I thought was sufficient for new viewers.

Comparisons with DS9 are inevitable, each series has it's strong points as well as issues. I'm just thankful that there we have 2 great sci-fi series to enjoy.

Series (not the TV movies) is also available on netflix instant watch if you want to sample it. Season 1 is kinda meh though it lays narrative ground work for the later seasons so you can't really skip it. Show hit's it's peak in Season 3, then I lost interest about 3/4ths of the way through season 4. I just didn't buy the abrupt change in relationship between a few of the characters in season 4. Supposedly season 5 is pretty weak.

Season 2 and 3 are the high points of the series, with things starting to wane mid-way through Season 4, though it does pick up at the end of the season. Season 1 should be considered as a season-long lead-in to the other seasons.

Season 5 is a bit disjointed from the other four seasons, though it does at least give the show some kind of closure than what should have happened when it was "canned" at the end of Season 4.

Movies are certainly worth watching and I think they're better than a good bunch of the season episodes. Watch them after you've made it through the seasons sets and not beforehand.

The viewing order link in the OP is a good one, so it's worth following.

It's a shame they didn't know until the 11th hour that they would get a 5th season, as that would have strengthened the overall narrative a lot. It's hard not to notice how some major, seasons-long conflicts just sort of abruptly shift into sixth gear and race to a conclusion that wasn't built up to properly in season 4 in anticipation of an early end. I know Season 1 gets a lot of hate, but I liked Sinclair, actually.

It's a great show though, highly recommend it.

Be warned that at least season one of Babylon 5 looks horrible on DVD. Warners zoomed in the picture and cropped the top and bottom off to make them fake widescreen. It doesn't look too bad for the strictly live-action footage, but any shot involving special effects (of which there are a lot) looks really jaggy and grainy. The show looks better on Netflix instant view where they show it at the original 4:3 aspect ratio.

That's only true of the SFX and composite shots. Strictly live-action footage is native widescreen as the whole series was done on film. This remains true throughout the entirety of the series. Live-action stuff looks good and the CG all looks crap because it's cropped and zoomed.

For some ridiculously retarded reason, only season 3 is $15.99, the other four re-packaged sets are back up to around $34.99 each

Every episode of babylon 5 is on Netflix watch instantly.

You can sub for 7.99 a month to instant only.

Granted it's like renting vs buying and you need a pc/Wii/360 or fancy tv but since I already have all of those things it's nice.

Just though id thro that out there, sounds like a great deal still tho if you like the physical disc to own and i totally know how that feels.
I understand that this show gets MUCH better, but I still couldn't get through the horrible first season.
Ya, and it's pretty hard to watch it on netflix unless you watch it in fairly rapid succession as there is no "previously on Babylon 5" bits before each episode.
