*BACK* Xbox HD DVD Player $199 Shipped @ Amazon
Why are all of you whinning about 1080p and ps3 and HD DVD and xbox 360, blah blah blah...

3 SIMPLE WORDS: LACK OF MOVIES...

Both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD suck because of the lack of movies available....

Call me when The Matrix Trilogy and Fight Club are available on either format
Matrix by the end of 2006 for HD. Fight Club not announced, but would be on Blu-Ray. HD DVD now has 100 movies available.

man, for 3 days i've debated biting on this. it wasn't until today that it occured to me that i don't even have an hdtv! damn cag

I really want this, but my lust list is huge at the moment and I figure I will just see back and see where the format war is headed.

Does anybody know if this new allotment of players will also come with King Kong? There seems to be a lot of confusion in the forum on the Amazon.com product page about the player. Specifically there is a thread where a representative of Amazon.com stated that only preorders with the 'initial allotment' will have King Kong inside.

If it doesn't have King Kong, I would rather cancel my preorder and get it from Best Buy.

From the looks of it, I wouldn't take a chance unless it shows King Kong in your cart when you preorder it.

King Kong would NOT show up in your cart. It's is bundled INSIDE the box. Like the remote with the first batch of 360's and Spiderman 2 UMD with the PSP.

Why is there so much mass confusion over this? KING KONG is part of the bundle -- it's not EBGames or Gamestop specific! If you buy the player, it has the movie inside.

There is confusion because of this idiotic post by some Amazon.com rep:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/discussionboard/discussion.html/ref=cm_cd_dp_tft_tp/002-8957877-1915215?ie=UTF8&cdForum=Fx1M1DTLFRFVZWL&asin=B000JHO4L0&cdThread=Tx890CQHFKVHSH

There has been customer confusion as to whether the King Kong HD DVD is included with purchase of the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player through Amazon.com. This DVD is included with the unit, but only with pre-orders placed during our initial product allotment. All customers who pre-ordered during this period - see the top of this product page for details - will receive a copy of the DVD along with an Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote, which comes standard with the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player, regardless whether it is a pre-order or not.

Honestly, at this point I'm just going to let the thing arrive, and if it doesn't have King Kong inside of it I'll just send it right back and Amazon can eat the shipping. If they can't be arsed to even know what it is they're selling, they deserve to lose money when it doesn't have what the customer expects.

Ok, now... since the new update the 360 can NOW support 1080p everyone... Component out, does do a 1080p signal as well, will this player be 1080p?

Bump. I'd like to know this as well.
HD-DVDs will only be in 1080P over a VGA cable. Component is limited to 1080i on HD-DVDs.
I was informed that newer TVs can except 1080p over component cables and that the HD DVD unit will be able to output it through the component cable.

I have both the HD DVD unit for the 360 and a PS3 for Blu Ray, and both are excellant. Quite frankly, it's difficult to go back and watch regular DVDs anymore. Also, the PS3 will upconvert your DVD through the HDMI connection, but I haven't noticed a significant improvement.

Either way, I would strongly recommend getting one or the other (or both) if you have an HDTV, you won't be dissappointed. The only other consideration is that 20th Century Fox is Blu Ray only, so no Star Wars for the HD DVD. HD DVD only has Unversal as an exclusive, while Blu Ray has 20th Century Fox, Disney and , of course, Sony.

[can of worms]For now[/can of worms]

Format wars are pissing me off.

I know I'm gonna get a PS3 eventually so it's not really worth getting the HD DVD add on now even thought I kinda want it.

PS3 does NOT, I repeat, DOES NOT upscale regular DVDs. In fact, the PS3 doesn't upscale ANYTHING, - not DVDs, not games - NOTHING.

Just wanted to make sure people know this.
