Anyone tested this stuff out yet?

From what I've read.
 • 16 is the queue limit for downloads. Yes, 16. UPDATE: It's 17 now. Kinda.
 • You can download two items at once using a little trick (one in the background, one directly from the PS store or something.... need to test this.)
 • And no background downloading while playing PS2 or PSX games... but maybe if they're emulated via the software, it'll work, since it was tested on US systems.
 • No background downloading if it's to an external drive.
 • Will keep downloading even if you switch users.
 • Auto-resume if you turn the PS3 off.
Can anyone confirm or deny these tidbits?

Update on the simultaneous downloads...
Here's what a guy wrote:

Background downloads are sequential, not simultaneous. Meaning, if you have 5 items in the background download queue, they'll download one after the other.

However, if you have an item downloading in the background, you can still actively download another item, but you have to sit there and watch it download. You can't transfer it to the queue, otherwise the download will pause and wait its turn. On that note, the download limit is technically 17, since you can have 16 queued up, with one downloading, and 1 actively downloading (not in the queue). Just tried that out myself.

I tested this last night, you can only download one at a time, anything else you want to download will be pending until the current download finishes.

The 17 limit, I dunno there wasn't 17 things I wanted. ;) But I can confirm that you can go to other region stores and put downloads into the queue, I was downloading stuff from the US, HK, and JPN stores last night.

No background D/L'ing while playing PS1/2 I dunno, we were playing the HSG5 demo while I was downloading though, so you can play PS3 games at the very least.

Lastly, It does keep D/L'ing if you switch users, like I said, I went to all the stores last night and went to my different profiles to see what was on the other ones, while grabbing stuff from the other locations, only drawback was my connection slowed quite considerably, but hey at least I can check stuff out while I'm waiting for my D/L's to get done. :)

downloading 1 at a time is fine, being able to queue is the big improvement. After all if you download more than 1 it only sucks the same bandwidth

HOW DO I GET TO OTHER REGIONS :hot::hot::shock:
it's definitely downloading a little faste than usual imo... I downloaded two movie clips.
I have to agree. Downloads seem much faster to me now.

The downloading definitely pauses when playing a PS2 game.

I selected the Bee movie trailer and it was at 4% when I booted up Spartan: Total Warrior. As I was playing I noticed the hard drive light wasn't on. When I finally quit, I went straigt to the download manager and it was still at 4% and was just starting to resume.

Yeah, it probably has to do with switching to the Emotion chip.

I noticed while downloading some images via the webbroswer, it was giving me the option to download those in the background. They only take a second so there was no need, but at least it shows that you'll be able to download files from the internet with the background feature as well.

Yup, same for me too.
I downloaded an MP4 video file from a site using the background downloading.

I was pleasantly surprise how nice and easy it is to que up titles.

I always felt it very confusing and weird on the 360. Because there is no confirmation or anything, and it doesnt ask if you want to que it.

Background downloading does not work with PS2 or PS1 games. Sucks, but that's just how it is for now.

Could be one of the reasons Sony is removing the EE in favor of software emulation?

Honestly if I had $15,00 in the bank right now I would just road trip across the country. Take a couple friends and get in a car and just take off, see the country.

*edit*
wrong thread, don't know how I ended up in here. :)

I can confirm it does not work. Started downloads and then Folding. Had it running for like 4 hours and came back but the downloads were in the same spot when I came back.
Ahh, so I should turn off the folding@home idle thing?
No. From what I can tell, it will download items THEN after whatever time you have it set it, it will activate Folding@home. You just can't start downloads, then start Folding as it will pause the downloads then.

I also noticed today that if you have a background download in progress, F@H will still launch if you have the idle auto-start selected.

Might want to watch for that if you want to do a long download.

i'm annoyed that this doesn't work for ps2 games. seriously, i don't do muchw ith my ps3 but play ps2 games since no really good games for the ps3 are out.
