Backwards Compatibility Problems?

hmmm

CAG Veteran
Is there any good lists of PS1 games that don't work that great on the PS2...there is one on gamefaqs...but I would like to see more lists about it or your own experiences.

Wing Commander 3 (longbox). I have some issues with my Lunar: SSTC as well. My brother told me that Suikoden II supposedly has compatibility probs, but mine works fine. And believe it or not.. I think my Lemmings 3d works fine on my PS2. I hate playing Wing Commander on a console, but some douche bag stole my PC discs.

I think somy actually put out a list of which games are not backwards compatible, I could be wrong though. But from what I remember there were only like 5 or 6 games in all. I do remember wing commander being on there though.

Here is the list from gamefaqs of games that have problems(in case any of you can add on to it):
Arcade Party Pack
Arcade's Greatest Hits/Atari Collection 2
Castlevania Symphony of the Night
Chrono Cross
Clock Tower 2
Crash Bandicoot Warped
Dino Crisis
Fighter Maker
Final Fantasy Anthology
Final Fantasy VII
Fox Sports Golf 1999
International Track & Field
Judge Dredd
Legend of Mana
Mega Man Legends 2
Metal Gear Solid
Monkey Hero
Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Parasite Eve 2
RayStorm
Silent Hill
Star Ocean: The Second Story
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Suikoden
Syphon Filter
Tomba!
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
Vanguard Bandits
Wing Commander III
Wing Commander IV
Xenogears

One of the main reasons I am going to get a PS2 envantually is because of backwards compability since I don't have a PS1...and then I could kill 2 stones at once and cheaper...but some of the main games like CC and FF plus some of the other RPG's listed are one of the main reasons why the commpability is appealing to me...also if anyone knows how well the PS1 Medal of Honors and In The Hunt works on the PS2...I would apperciate that.

Yeah...I have heard of that list...but I have never been able to find it.

I've played-and own-nearly every game on that list. And all of them work except Wing Commander III for me. Namely, if my Symphony of the Night or FF Anthology didn't work on my PS2, I'd beat that beotch down in the middle of a field... Office Space style (you know.. like that damned fax machine in the movie)

Sony actually did have an official list right on their site in plain sight, but it was mostly old first generation PS1 titles like wing commander.

I think the main issues of incompatability come from using the special features like texture smoothing and disk speed. I have many of the games on this list and never experiences a problem with them with using the enhanced features.

same here. Odd thing was the first gen PS2 couldn't play ff9 or ff4 on it, which was confusing as hell. My second gen PS2 plays all the games i have.

You also need to understand "combaility issues" doesn't mean it doesn't play. Star Ocean 2, Wing Commander III won't load at all for me. Chrono Cross worked fine but had some odd funny error I can't remember right now (save problems maybe).

Ive had problems with the save screen in Final Fantasy V, and I had some problem with the X-Files game, but I dont remember what it was.

That gamefaqs list is horseshit. I've played at least half those games on my PS2.

First-gen US? My PS2 is a US launch day machine and I played FF IX al the way through on it with no problems. To date I've never had a problem with any PS1 game that wasn't on the short list Sony issued not long after the launch.
