Bad film directors

Xevious

CAGiversary!
Name some bad film directors:

Here is a few that I can think off the top of my head

Michael Bay
Uwe Boll
Jay Roach
Joel Schumacher
Everyone mentioned above has made at least 1 good flick in their career... except for Uwe Boll
Most directors make at last one good movie or else they wouldn't get a second chance... it still doesn't mean they don't suck. I'd add Scorcese, Kubrick, and a ton of others who were once great but now suck (or sucked immediately prior to death)...

i'm refering to directors who make more bad than good films.

BTW, what good film did Michael Bay make?

Saying Scorsese and Kubrick suck just shows how little you know. Go watch Pearl Harbor again, then ANY Kubrick film (other than Eyes Wide Shut, which wasn't all that horrid).

Bay did The Rock, which wasn't too bad either.

I'll add Kevin Smith, but more for his horrible writing

I think you got most of them. Nothing is really coming to mind right now of bad directors as I try to avoid them. ONly the good directors are coming to mind.

Let's not forget consumate hack Paul Anderson who gave us the inexcuseable Resident Evil and Aliens vs. Predator films. I don't understand how movie studios continue to give this chump money.
Lucas.
Blasphemer....how dare you say his name in a list of bad directors. Sure some of his work of a late has been not that good but they haven't been exactly horrible you know.

Lucas is a tough call. He's DIRECTED exactly ONE good movie (Star Wars IV). But then again, he's directed two of the worst recieved movies in the last 10 years (Episodes I and II). I think we'd all be much happier if he stopped directing these flicks, so therefore I think he falls under the category of bad.

Quick edit. Forgot about American Graffiti, which is slightly overrated, but still a quality flick.

do we really have to get into this...
EVERY1!!! PUT ON UR ANTI-DEATH GOGGLES!!

JOHN TRAVOLTA!! = bad director :p..

I'd have to say Uwe Boll mainly because of house of the dead. That was the worst use of liscensing I have ever seen

The Rock was great. Bad Boys 1 and 2 weren't bad at all.

I think Joel Shumacher got a bum rap for "killing" the Batman franchise (with Batman & Robin). But he's actually a really good director and I'd say he has more hits than misses.

Check out:

Falling Down (great flick)
The Lost Boys (Vamp classic)
Flatliners
The Client

Plus I'm hearing Oscar nods for his latest Phantom of the Opera.
Alan Smithee. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000647/bio
Alan Smithee is not one person. Its several people. Thats a fake name that directors use when they feel their work has been compromised by the producers, studio heads, etc.

EDIT: I clicked on the link AFTER posting this so apologizes to poster.

Also, I just noticed I am over 2000 posts. I missed my celebration..Oh well.

The trailers for 'Alone in the Dark' appear to be even farther removed from their source material. I didn't see the slight vestige of anything I could trace back to the games.

Not true really, they have at least one film that makes a lot of money, but thet doesn't mean it's a good movie. It could've been panned by every critic in the nation but if the film made like $150 mill at the box office movie studios will still hire them to make films.

Lucas.
No, Episode II was pretty horrible. But I definitely wouldn't call him a bad director; Episode I was okay, and Star Wars & American Graffiti are both fantastic.

Lucas.
I second that. Star Wars is GAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Really? It has sex with other mennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn?

Lucas.
I'd say he's a fairly bad director...good directors get jobs directing films that the create and own the property rights to, hell Empire was probably the best of all the Star Wars films mainly cuz he didn't direct it.

Now if you you all want a bad director your annswer is simple: Kevin Costner...nuff said.

Yup, the first time I saw the trailer I thought it was a sequel to Resident Evil and was like, What!!!??! They've already made another sequel?

I just want to say that those that said Kubrik and Scorsese in the beginning don't know what they are watching. Those are two excellent directors. I can only think of maybe one movie per each that I did really like. Kubrik just has so many classics, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove or Love the Bomb or How I learned to not to worry, etc.

Sorry, eldad, but that is just ignorant. Clearly it had sex with other films (possibly even other franchises).

You are only as good as your last movie. Eyes Wide Shut was the biggest piece of shit move I've ever seen - and that's saying a lot. Full Metal Jacket (his last good movie) is almost 18 years old. Granted Kubrick died in 1999 but that's still 12 years without making a good movie (or any movie, actually). Since the last thing he did sucked... so does he.

Scorsese hasn't made a good movie since Goodfellas (although I hear The Aviator is good - I haven't seen it). That's almost 15 years old. Gangs of New York? No. Cape Fear? The original was better. Now, Michael Jackson's "Bad" video - that was awesome.

I'm not saying they suck in general, just now.

So... if Star Wars had been straight, who/what would it have sex with?
I'll go with Guy Ritchie.
Umm, no. You have forfeited your right to have an opinion.

JK, but I disagree with you (although I have not seen Swept Away).

My least favortie "A list" directors are:

Joel Schumacher
Michael Bay

Brett Ratner (Rush Hour 1 and 2, Family Man, After the Sunset, Red Dragon) - a master schmoozer, he himself admits it's his phenomenal ability to make friends, not his talent, that got him where he is today. The Rush Hours were good, but that's because of Chris Tucker.

Stephen Sommers (Mummy films, Van Helsing)
Kevin Smith - though his screenplays are comic masterpieces.
Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, Day After Tomorrow)

And, in the "were once good, but now suck" category:

George Lucas
John Singleton
The Hughes Brothers
Francis Ford Coppola '
Ron Howard (sometimes) - Beautiful Mind and Apollo 13 were brilliant, The Grinch and Ransom sucked. Very hit or miss director.

Other forms of media, most likely. TV shows, magazines, videogames. Of course, it kinda did/does have its hands in all those pies, so I guess it is buy-sexual (yes, I wrote "buy", not "bi". I did it on purpose, and the fact that I have to explain this to you people removes any potential amusement that could have been derived from the word-play. Thanks a lot :) ).

dont say that about martin. gangs of new york wasnt an amazing piece of work, but its better than 99 percent of the crap out there.

and if you make a movie like mean streets, you can make a movie about a bottle of spring water and you still get kudos-

good fellas is my least favorite movie by him btw

There is no question, Ratner's crowning achievement was dating Rebecca Gayheart.
