"One little voice is calling me calling me, one little voice is calling me."

Holy crap i just got hit with the retro bug, does anyone remember the show Doug on nickaloden. God that was a great show, and that episode was so great when he started his own band. Cant belive is still remember the lyrics its been like 9 years or something since i last seen a doug episode.

I remember those days before 50 hours a week of working, where i could kick back and watch cartoons and declare every wensday "MADDEN 95" day. I remember that cartoon block of Ren and Stimpy, Doug, Rocko's Modern Life, and something else.......cant remember.Damn I miss being a kid sometimes.

If anyone can find that episode or a clip of them singing i would be thankful hell i might even pay ya.

Rugrats was one of the other original Nicktoons, shame that one took off instead of any of the others (though the later episodes of Doug made by ABC/Disney were horrid). I wish there was more Angry Beavers out there, though. :(

The strange thing is, I was in a public bathroom less than a week ago and I heard two kids singing this song. They were both younger than 10 so they couldn't have seen the original airing. I thought it was pretty great. Too bad Disney came along and fucked up Doug good.

Oooo Weeee Ooooo Killer Tofu!

God they just dont make tv shows like they used to, back in the day you had REAL entertainment. All the shows i said in my first post where of the highest quality. Good plots, writters, voice actors, and they didnt do it with all the dumb sex jokes covered in gore and swearing. Not that those things are bad but networks just use them when they cant come up with any real plot line, which is damn near everything on tv now a days.

Ren and Stimpy was/still is a great show, but it doesn't have a plot. It is completly random.

Jesus christ graystone! I had forgot all about those shows, damn let me see if i can think of the lyrics to salute your shorts.

Something like, "We run and jump and swing and play, something something something, fat kid says make you wanna fart or something like that."

Hey dude was also a classic, Does anyone remember the alien episode of hey dude?
Anyone remember "Hey Dude" or "Salute your Shorts". Those should come out with box sets like the pete and pete box sets.
Going for the double post...

Salute Your Shorts is the greatest non-cartoon kid show ever (aside from Fraggle Rock)
Anyone remember "Hey Dude" or "Salute your Shorts". Those should come out with box sets like the pete and pete box sets.
I used to watch those shows all the time! (I liked "Salute your shorts" better)

Dude fraggle rock was pretty god damn sweet to. But i never knew what the hell those things where that wanted to eat them all the time.

I just got Rocko's Modern Life season 1.. and I sent out some Beets songs from Doug to a friend the other night.. I love older Nickelodeon.

I-E-OOOO... KILLER TOFU!!!!! Damn i remember that song. They need to bring all of these shows to dvd, i would own every one of them.

And no food for you...you already had some.
I just got Rocko's Modern Life season 1..
Details... please... I used to love that show.

I love the old Nickelodeon stuff. Heck, I remember seeing the really, really old stuff like "David the Gnome" and those semi-commercials where Bill Cosby would come out and talk to you and draw stuff on an eraseboard with a pen that made funny noises.

Some of my favorites were these short cartoons that aired featuring a hippo and some cats. One of them involved the hippo trying to take off in a hot air balloon and it floats away. Another was the hippo and the cats playing tennis. The cartoons would end with the hippo giving a thumbs-up. Anyone remember these shorts?

EDIT: Please tell me that someone remembers that really old-school stuff. I try to talk to people that say they watched the old-school Nick, and they look at me like I'm from outer space. Either that or maybe I'm an old fart.

Hey, does anyone remember another cartoon with a girl who had pet koala bears? Now I remember the name! "Noozles." Turns out it was a Japanese cartoon dubbed into English. Weird...

Also, I remember watching "Inspector Gadget" on there... oh, memories... :)

Yes I really remember all this stuff because I was the perfect TV watching age when it all came out. The Bill Cosby thing was called Picture Pages. I always wanted that damn pen that I thought would make noise like on the show but I'm sure never did.

I also remember the shorts with the hippo and the cats. The cats were mean as hell and made growling noises and tried to do something bad to the hippo but he always came out on top. Do you remember the short where the guy breaks the egg and is laughing and then someone does the same to his house?

Some other older Nick shows, before Nicktoons were "Today's Special", "Pinwheel", Eureka's Castle, Maya the Bee...those were the days.

Holy Christ thats going back far, Eureka's Castle was the absolute shit. She was like a white devil ro something (jokes aside people) because i remember her having horns for some reason. Plus there was someone who always fell asleep when they should have been flipping a switch. I also remember there was a cool ass musical number with whatever used to fly through that castle window. Plus the door knockers where pretty funny.

Anyone remember Muppet Babies, the cartoon. I still remember my fav episode when its valentine's day and Ralph doesnt get a cookie shapped like his face and he gets sad and goes into the closet and emerges with a kick ass piano sole about him being sad. After that they found out that his cookie just fell off the plate and that nanny still loved him.

Only thing i never got about that show was why didnt anyones parents come to pick them up from the nanny?

FINALLY!!!! SOMEONE REMEMBERS THIS STUFF!

It was called Picture Pages, then? Sounds right. I loved the hippo and the cats shorts. The hippo never spoke, and the cats would growl. I do remember the egg short that you talked about.

You are the only other person I know that remembers "Today's Special." That was the show about the mannequin, right? I do remember Pinwheel and Eureka's Castle, too. And Maya the Bee...

Classic stuff.

Yeah I was all about Today's Special. Jeff the Manequin and Mr. Crenshaw the puppet/security guard. My favorite part was when Muffy would go to her music box and there would be some trippy dance number with a large monster thing (kinda like Sweetums from the muppet show).

The Koala show was the other one I forgot from the same era as David the Gnome and Maya.

The muppet show is pretty cool as well, God damn nickoloden was the shit back in the day. To bad they suck balls and porkchops now. I also remember when "All That" was actually funny.

wow..utter nostalgia, this post almost brought a tear 2 my eye, i remember when id come home frmo like elem school and see these shows, those were the days, remember r u afriad of the dark? one episode had me like scared to go 2 sleep! (i was like 7-8..chill)...wow..those were the days :)

omg yes!! i kno just what u mean, now its just...stupid, the original cast

(keenan, kel, josh, amanda bynes, lori beth, big ear of corn (she counts!) and kevin..i kno there has 2 be like 1 or 2 that i 4got in there)
they all rules, perfect show..then they started changing :\..and it was terrible, i checked it out recently, and cudnt stand it...nickelodeon should just stop and play back entire days of its old time era...wow..i really do miss being a kid

Wow. Eureaka's Castle. I changed my mind. That is the best non-cartoon kid's show ever.

And Muppet Babies was the shit. What the hell ever happened to Skeeter? Scooter is barely ever mentioned in anything, and she was eliminated completely.

David the Gnome, Today's Special, Maya the Bee, Noozles...

Oh man, those were my favorite shows as a kid. I was a bit too old for Rugrats, but was the perfect age for those others. David the Gnome especially. Used to watch it all the time with my dad.

Anyone remember the short "The Cat Came Back"? I still sing that to this day. I remember a bunch of other shows too. Like one about a kid and his two dogs, there was another show that used to retell various fairy tales. I even remember another show with talking Australian animals, and a flying tree.

OMG!!!! I just remembered....i taped a marathone of that show once. I still have that tape! Every episode every made is sitting in a box in my basement right now, *dashes off to find it*

Did you see the one its called "Quick Silver" where one of the twin girls dies and then the other one is trying to kill the ghost that killed her? At the end when he comes out of the wall and she realizes that the spoon she has wasnt going to kill it because its not real silver, I WAS SCARED SHITLESS.

She was saved because she always wore a silver necklace that her sister had bought her. Damn that show was scary as hell as a kid.

Oh man, this brings back some great memories. Eureka's Castle, David the Gnome, Hey Dude, Salute your Shorts, Doug, Rocko's Modern Life...geez those were great shows. Anyone remember Nick Arcade, Guts, and Legends of the Hidden Temple? Man, what happened to Nickelodeon? They suck majorly now.

i remember when i was a youngin i used to watch david the gnome at 6 30 am while i was getting ready for school...i missed the old nick stuff...also you guys named all the doug songs except the patty mayonaise song..and you call yourself doug fans :)

LOL @ Are You Afraid of the Dark? Remember Zeebo the Clown? I recall him owning some stupid kids who stole his cigars.

EDIT: No, wait...it was his nose!! They stole his nose!

Shit. Totaly forgot about these classics: Count Duckula, Sparticus, Danger Mouse, and probably my favorite short: Banana Man.

Goddamn these were great. Sparticus was very weird (I think this is the name of the show. They were looking for the lost city of gold, but it was in the future and they had two robotic platypuses as sidekicks).

I would kill for DVDs of all of these series.

Dude i remember the cat came back. God i wish i can turn back time for one day and watch all these shows. They put shows now a days to shame. I really feel sorry for the kids growing up now, all they have is stupid watered down rip offs of the shows we had......and millions of reality shows about lacing up your shoes.

I remember Nick Arcade, Guts, and Legends of the Hidden Temple. They still show those, on the Nick GAS (Games & Sports) channel, along with other classics like Wild & Crazy Kids and Double Dare.

Count Duckula! Didn't he drink tomato juice? Was because of some accident when he was awakened. He also had some kind of traveling castle.

Seriously, poor kids nowadays. They have nothing.

Dude nick arcade was great because of 2 reasons.

1, Every kid there suck ass and porkchops when playing any game. Plus that thing they went in where they never could figure out how to jump over the crocs in the water or stop the aliens from sucking people up.

2. Every time they did anything they would have to sing, DA DA DA TA DADA GOING TO THE ARCADE MACHINE!

What was that one show with omar epps, when it was always a team of pink and team of blue and a team of white (maybe) and they would compete. It wasnt nickolodean guts it was something else.

Never mind he answered it for me, Wild and Crazy Kids!

You remember that show, too?!!!!

Even those who remembered the other shows never remember that show. I think it's this show, since I remember one of the characters being named "Tao."

I always just called it "City of Gold."

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0122356/

I cant belive none of us put Clarissa Explains It All. That show is sweet as hell, i remember always wanting to be like that kid who climbed in through the window. I always thought he was cool for some reason.

This sounds like it, if there were some photos somewhere I could probably guess better. I'll take a look around.

It really puts things into prespective, thinking about all of this does. I mean, it was almost ten years since I last sat down to watch these shows? I realize I was a kid back then and went through puberty, but think of how drastically you've changed since then.

Crap like this makes me weak in the knees and puts me on the verge of crying. It's so hard to believe I was actual a living, conscious being so many years ago. I occasionally catch a glimpse of these old shows on websites or through word of mouth, and I'm just shocked at how long it's been...back when we were kids, we were completely different people; now the only thing connecting us are these nostalgic memories we have.

God, I could rant for hours and hours about these old shows. Really, I could.

And, in all seriousness, I don't think Nickelodeon's quality has degraded, as you suggest. That's just how nostalgia works. You always here people talk about "how they don't make games like they used to." In reality, can you say that's true? I don't think it is. If anything, things usually get better. We're just biased towards the past because these were the shows that brought smiles to our faces, and now we feel that Nick is trying to replace them with something different.

If you look on Amazon, you can actually find VHS videos of a lot these shows. They're not complete sets or anything, but you can grab a video with a few episodes on it.

Anyone here have satellite or digital cable? There's some channels that will interest you:

Toon Disney airs some old classic cartoons: Garfield and Friends comes on every night at 2:30 (all of these times are gonna be eastern). At 3:30, Tale Spin makes it's way on. An hour later, at 4:30, Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers hums it's lovely intro music. I'm a sucker for those old shows. Admittedly, I often times stay up and watch them. I feel embaressed that I'm 18 and have the urge to watch them, but it's just like an adrenaline rush of nostalgia. Seriously. It's freakin' euphoric.

Also, Nickelodeon Gas is a Nick game show channel. They show Guts, (the old) Double Dare, along with Legends of the Hidden Temple.

There's another Nick channel -- the name escapes me -- but they do show Rocko's Modern Life. That's the only old show I remember them showing.

But to continue my rant a little more...it's just so shocking that we're adults now. Kinda sad. Your childhood is probably the most fun-filled, care-free time of your life. Even if people try and get you to acknowledge this, you never can comprehend it until it's too late.
God bless you!

Mr. Unoriginal, check that link. There's a pic.
I don't tihnk the cities of gold is the show I'm thinking of, but there is a show called Spartikus too. Damn memories not working right. Or a jumble of everything that was sweet from age 3 - 7.

I used to remember Ug holding up a horn at the end of that chant, blowing, but nothing is played. I guess they forgot it in post production.

Remember Ducktales? My favorite episode was where Scrooge lost his memory and ended up being a blue-collar worker and seeing how hard it was to be a poor person. I always wished I had a huge Money Bin to swim in.

I also had a lot of fun with the NES game. Man, I hope it's downloadable on Revolution someday.

I got the first verse pretty well, considering it was by heart. Besides, you cheated off that site.
