I've been trying to download this for over 24 hours now. The demo downloaded fine, I played it, liked it enough to want to get it, but on my 360 AND on xbox.com when I try to buy it, I get errors.

Strange.

Might want to log into Xbox.com, login with your Windows ID and buy it there - will unlock on your console.
