Baten Kaitos

I recievwed Baten Kaitos as an early Christmas present, and I've been loving it so far. I got about 4 hours in before I realized that for some insane reason I had stopped playing Paper Mario 2, and I'm now finishing that. But I'll definitely get back to BK soon.

I did the exact same thing, but for some reason, theres no urge to go back and finish PM2 at the moment. It just didnt have that fun factor for me like the original Paper Mario did.

i was just wondering how people enjoyed this fighting system
Well, as you can see from my posts above, I didn't like it at all. I thought the battles were slow and boring. I didn't like the Magnus system either. I'm an old school RPG guy, i like it simple and Baten Kaitos' battle system wasn't very intuitive. A lot of people really like it, though. It's much different than ToS, tho. People think just because they both came from Namco that there should be some similarity. They are very different games.
I wasn't sure what to expect but actually got it because TOS was my game of the year and wanted to try another RPG from Namco. All I have to say is WOW so far for BK. How long is this game exactly? I wasn't expecting the second disc when I opened the package.

Thanks Frys Electrionics, got it for $24.99 plus tax. :D

As soon as Paper Mario got on sale for something similar and I will pick it up too.

If you plan to do most of the sidequests, about 50 hours.

Moxio, did your GC crap out at the Celestial Alps too? I got through the first part of the boss fight and then an error message came up directing me to consult the system instruction manual. I tried getting through that part 3 times with the game stopping at various points during/between fights. I've had my system for over 3 years now and never had a problem. I guess it's the system and not the game because now my Resident Evil 4 demo gets stuck during gameplay too. Sucks.

Uhoh. Looks like your GameCube is having a problem similar to what mine used to have.

It's most likely your system. My system was having trouble loading up discs, while yours seems to be giving trouble during game.

If you're interested in fixing your GameCube, you'll want to check out this link.

Best of luck to you and your Cube.

Anywho, onto BK.

I finished those 2 annoying boss battles.

I've been looking for this one cheap. Sadly, ToS is not my kind of RPG. The story was solid, but I cannot stand the combat system. I guess turn-based is the only way for me! Anyway, BK looks to be my next RPG pick up, right after I finish Paper Mario and La Pucelle that is!

Yeah, while BK is turn-based, it has a rather unique battle system. You've got to try it to believe it. :)

I just started playing this game. Its alright and I really enjoy the battle system, graphics, and awesome soundtrack. The voice acting is the worst I've ever heard in an RPG. Its really dissapointing to me. I mean, it really is bothersome, and I plan to turn off the voices if possible. I dont know about the story as im only about an hour and a half through. Pysched to play through it though.

Actually, I've found something out interesting about the voice acting.

Throughout the game, your spirit makes choices about various things. If you make a "positive" choice, then, actually, the voice acting becomes clearer and clearer. As you progress, the voice acting gets better and better.

It's true. If I compare my current voice acting to the acting at the beginnning of the game, the current is very clear.

Beat the game about an hour ago; pretty satisfying ending. I turned off the voices so I may have to go back through and see if they actually are clearer at the end. This game drew me in right away with the battle system, the only (minor) complaint I have is that some of the later party members' back stories are a little under-developed. Every Cube owner should give it a shot. I'm going to take a break from RPGs for awhile before tackling Tales of Symphonia, which I got for Christmas.

Yeah, what was the major plot twist in the game? I stopped playing, but was really interested in this aspect. Anybody want to spoil it for me?

END REQUEST FOR SPOILERS!!

Not to spoil anything. I just been "transfered". The 5 end magnus were released... and I'm looking in some cracks. That whole scene with the Magnus was awesome... I didn;t think they were going to use the whole "You are a character in the game" thing so well.

Ohhh that part! Yeah, that was pretty crazy. You're destined for a quite a bit more surprises, so buckle your seatbelt!
