The game uses Games for Windows Live. It actually has nothing to do with Steam. Blame Warner Brothers.

Yeah, that was the original reason i didn't get it during the summer sale, thanks for bringing it up.

Guess I'll be skipping AC altogether, I prefer not supporting treating honest customers like criminals.
