The ps3 exclusive joker maps and the other maps for both versions are free online. just get the vanilla copy, download the maps and boom same package for a cheaper price ( minus the useless 3d glasses of course )

But the normal copy is $27 new and $20 used..

The GOTY includes four additional maps that were originally DLC, two of which are free and the other two sell for a total of $7 on PSN.

GOTY has a separate list of achievements. So even if you've played vanilla, you could get another 1000 by playing this...or the pc version....or the pc GOTY.

Free shipping is misleading. You'd need at least $25 to get free shipping. As for the deal itself, it's pretty hard to find a cheaper one. Cheapest one used right now according to CAG is 26.99 from Gamestop: http://www.gamestop.com/xbox-360/games/batman-arkham-asylum-game-of-the-year-edition-3d/77273
And the last time it was 19.99 was June 7 according to the price tracker. That being said, it might at least be easier to find this game at this price going forward.

But not separate trophies :(

Been trying to hunt down a cheap BL version but it's not really cheap (enough).

I'm playing through the game now. It's just slightly overrated in my opinion. It is no doubt the greatest Batman game by a huge margin, and I think that made people praise the hell out of it. But combat gets mighty repetitive after a while, and levels can get pretty drab and repetitive (find a vent to crawl into stealthily take out enemies, find clues in detective mode, and rinse and repeat). I'd still consider it a very good game, just not as great as I was expecting.

The 3D glasses that come with the GOTY edition are a joke btw

@ssj how far in are you? Not gonna spoil anything but there are some really differant levels in there. I loved this game. I would give it a 9.5/10. First game that ever made me feel like I was really playing as Batman!

I'm right there with Soda. The game really pulled me in and made me feel like I was part of the Batman universe.

Thoroughly enjoyed it and I recommended the game to all my friends -- they were glad that I did.

Just to add to the suggestions others have made:

This game is great! Buy it!

Combat is simple but takes a long while to master. World is really well designed and immersive, one of the few games I actually enjoyed getting collectibles in.

I'm guessing around 3/4ths or so (a little passed Croc's Lair). I do agree that this is the closest I've felt to being Batman. And don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the majority of the game, it's just now and then some things like combat and going into vents and such feel a bit "old".

Here's my breakdown:

Pros:

- Great voice acting (among the best character voices out there for any series)

- Good story, I like the way they were able to incorporate most major villains into it without making it seem ridiculous. Good pacing and such too.

- You feel like Batman - I can't say I'm very fond of the Batman on Steroids look, but he's badass nonetheless and has some cool gadgets and upgrades to play with. Gliding, especially off of high cliffs is fun too. Wish there was more of that!

- Detective mode is a cool new gimmick on one hand...

Cons:

- Combat gets repetitive - I like the freeflow system, but nothing really changes much about these brawls as the game progresses. I went from strategically trying to get high combos earlier to more button mashing to end them asap.

- When there's no entrance, find a vent! - This also got kind of old. I know they had to come up with a way to get from A to B, but it's almost always some sort of vent system, and I kind of hate crawling around in them after a while

- On the other hand Detective mode takes away from the game a little. A lot of times I'm playing almost completely in Detective mode (tracing specific clues, looking out for enemies, etc..), and thus missing the actual visuals of the game.

- Visuals: I'm a bit mixed on visuals. Sometimes I think the game looks gorgeous, but other times textures seem a bit "washed out". I'm playing on the PS3, I hear it looks amazing on PC, and probably better on the 360 too.

I haven't finished it yet but I'd still give it around an 8.5 so far.

I thought the freeflow was the best part of the game. Play some of the challenge maps like Sewer Bat Extreme and see how much button mashing you get away with.

Amazon should atleast put it to the price they had last week at 16.99

You might as well get the GOTY, you arent gonna find a vanilla cheaper it seems. I think the GOTY is worth it just for the Scarecrow map. Its a different challenge in the combat, its not about getting combos or points, its survival.

There was a time when I thought Batman: Vengeance was the best Batman game. Now it's like, whoa.

I can't wait for Batman: Arkham City.

One star rating? Sheesh.

I picked up the PS3 version. I'm not sure if I should have though. Any thoughts about this might get cheaper?

It will drop like a boulder off a cliff before arkham city comes out. There will also be deals like get arkham city and you can have arkham asylum for 9.99 or something of the sort. Plus the game will be 2 years old by then.

It was cheaper like last week during the Lightning Deal for $16.99. It certainly a great price if you have never picked the game up, and still great if you have picked it up before. Me personally have bought the 360 version on release, and the GOTY twice on PS3.

off topic: if I want to play another ps3 game, which one should I play next? Uncharted 1 or Batman AA? I'm slowly catching up to my backlog cause I'm on vacation. Thanks.

They are both amazing. The only advice is to pick one out of a hat ( literally ) you cant go wrong with either. When you are done with one of them then play the other

I thought Uncharted 1 was crap, personally. Game was beautiful but not fun, with just shooting the same guys over and over with clunky shooting controls. Luckily they fixed all that in Uncharted 2, but that only made #1 look even more dated.

Batman AA is awesome, though. You should totally play it first. :p

I don't really think you should allow the PH case to detract you from getting this excellent game. The GOTY adds more content and if you can get it for a cheaper price over the vanilla case then go for it.

Does anyone know if rocksteady are going to improve the detective mode for arkham city ? As great of an idea as it was I only hated it cause you have to spend more then half the game in it and it wouldnt allow you to Enjoy the great visuals in the game cause of the grey color

This article may have what you're looking for, but it doesn't go into too much detail about the exact changes.

I played Arkham Asylum before and didn't like it. Usually when I don't like a game, I buy it again and then for some reason I love it. I expect this to be no different.

Yes they have. From what Ive seen, the detective mode doesnt give as much detail on the enviroment, only on the dudes.

Played some challenge modes last night. Still a really fun game. The freeflow is just so much damn fun, I cant wait to double and triple counter.

I hope you give it a try again. Its probably my favorite game this gen besides Bayonetta/ME2.

I agree with the free flow combat. It's simplicity reminds me of enslaved's combat ( good game get it ) but it felt more rewarding at the same time ( much more rewarding then enslaved ) can't wait to see the combat upgrades for arkham city

Great game and great price.. Took me a week to beat, then after I sold it since I didn't know what more there is to do besides the challenge maps
Damn, guess I missed this. Any other place that has it for $20 new? Or maybe a chance it will drop in near future?
Its been 20 before. I think on Amazon once before and definitely on Newegg. It was part of the Lightning Deals like 2 weeks ago for 16.99. Hell, even Gamestop had it for 19.99 new/17.99 used during the Powersaver sale.

With Arkham City getting closer, the chances of seeing a deal are high. If you have a gaming PC, the GOTY is gonna be on sale on D2D i think for less than $10.

I'm just chiming in to say, that I was one of the late adopters. Played this for the first time on Tuesday.... I'm on Joker now. This game is absolutely amazing. It's the first game where I've actually FELT like the character I'm supposed to be. It really makes you feel like you are Batman running thru the insane asylum.

I'm excited for Arkham City, hopefully there are some good deals out there on it.

Ive been playing since release and continue to go back to the Challenge maps and play Sewer Bat Extreme and play as the Joker. Its a very fun game. Best Buy probably has the best deal with the buy 5 get $100 plus you get Robin as a character. Amazon had it for like 54.99 the other day plus a 10 credit and that was really good too, better than Best Buy if you didnt want to throw that much money down. The game is gonna be worth the 60 regardless.
