Batman: Arkham City--10/18/11
Ugh. I must completely suck then. I'm also not able to gain any altitude when flying and when I grapple to something I can't use it to propel me above the roof line so I can start flying. I must be doing something wrong. I'm also having a very hard time linking any combos together.
You have to dive to keep altitude.

I hate the boss fights in this game. These kinds of boss fights in general piss me off. Cheap shit continually kills you and you have to listen to the same shit over and over. Joker fight I'm looking at you

Finished the main game today (Just have to finish up the Catwoman chapter) and I loved it. Really had no problem with the boss fights, thought they were a blast, especially the last one.

Love this series, but I really wish they didn't make so many achievements for getting ALL of the medals with ALL of the characters in the challenge maps and campaigns. And now they release Nightwing! I hope that's the end of that.
Just a reminder to anyone interested in getting the Story Teller achievement (without resetting their 360's internal clock/calendar)- don't forget to go talk to Calendar Man today, since it's Halloween.

No idea if anyone will care about this, but no harm in mentioning it.
I tried but I couldn't get into the courthouse. I'm in the middle of
the Penguin mission where you have to destroy the radio signal and it said I had to do that befroe the door would open
. I only had about 5 minutes to play on Halloween so I guess I'll have to wait until next year.

I also hate so many achievements being put towards the challenge maps. There is a 75 point achievement for getting 100% in the game. I think that should be the only achievement for getting all the medals. Having to get all the medals to get the majority of the achievements makes me not even want to try.
DLC episodes rumor... i was going to sell this game, but if this is true then i might hold onto it. hmmm

http://kotaku.com/5854878/could-campaign-dlc-be-on-the-way-for-batman-arkham-city
I think I'm still going to sell the game. If they come out with worthwhile DLC, I'll just rent the game or something. The game is awesome, but I've got every achievement in the game I'm going to get. No reason leaving the game on a shelf losing value in hopes that some good DLC is coming. I sure as hell don't care about the challenge room DLC.

There is a back door to the building.

The problem is he is on a mission. If he gets out of a certain area, the mission fails and he has to restart it. So, he would have to spend time beating the mission before the game would let him do anything else.

Right. The back door was locked. When I tried to open it Batman said something like
"I have to disable the communications towers first".
I didn't have time to complete the mission since it was Halloween and we had to go trick-or-treating and then do homework and eat dinner. Oh well.

Random question: What happens if I accidentally beat up the green dude before everyone else? Am I never able to see the Riddler trophies in that location or do the enemies eventually respawn in that area?
Did anything happen if you went to Calandar Man with Catwoman on Halloween? Did he say the same thing?
he said the same thing to catwoman as he does on any other day. You have to be batman to get special dialog.
Random question: What happens if I accidentally beat up the green dude before everyone else? Am I never able to see the Riddler trophies in that location or do the enemies eventually respawn in that area?
Protip: No specific green dude matters. They just spawn all over the place until you've beat up enough to locate all trophies/riddles. In fact, you don't even need to look for green dudes in any specific location, wherever you find them they'll uncover the trophies/riddles you have yet to find, the green dudes aren't connected with the location you find them in (except it seems that they do tend to uncover trophies/riddles in that general area until you run out of trophies/riddles to uncover in that area).

Another pro tip, i had 2 riddler trophies and a riddle left and found all green men, there is a reason for this. So dont go looking all over, they are in one of the side missions.

The remaining ones I couldn't find where still in the church, which I never return to after
initial riddler sequence

Since I finished my campaign fully (not going for new game+ since I heard you had to redo side missions for achievement
;I had a tough time to get both Deadshot and Hush's side quests to go as both require multiple going in and out of doors to activate at the end of the game
), I moved onto the the challenges. Predator challenges at this point seem repetitive since I went through those sections beating up guys during the story mode. Sad to see that Catwomen/Robin challenges are on the same boards. As for the beatup challenges, I don't think I can get those done. The first challenge I hit massive punch/counter combos (20x on one of them) and only came away with one medal. Ouch. Forget that.

I don't have advice for the later ones since I only did the first row of combat challlenges, but the bat swarm is VERY useful. VERY, VERY, VERY, useful. Before hand, I could get one medal, but would either just barely hit or miss the second medal. Bat swarm I noticed can be a huge boost to your point total if it hits a good number of enemies. Move / Gadget variation helps as well as you get bonuses for that.

Yeah, the bat swarm is without a doubt your friend. Oddly enough, once you start spamming that for all it's worth, the later stages actually become the easiest, because you're surrounded by enemies and can just nail them all with it. For the earlier stages, where you only have a few people, definitely vary up your moves, make sure not to get hit, and try for a perfect combo.

I need to check out this bat swarm. Unfortunately, I am a bare knuckle fighter in the Batman games. I pretty much just jump around, throw a punch or two and jump again. Rarely bring gadgets or special moves into the picture. I have no idea what the bat swarm is. I'm going to assume a bunch of bats fly in and attack the bad guys.

This game is awesome. I played a little more last night and I'm up to the part
in the subway where you have to walk across the frozen water to get to the Penguin. There are some cops I'm trying to rescue or something
but I turned it off as soon as I got into the room. I love how the side missions are integrated into the overall game and not like GTA style 15 minutes missions.

I don't think I fully understand how to access the Riddler trophies - there are the question mark discs that are all over the place that you stand on but I haven't figured out what any of them do yet. I will eventually. I also love how you can go into a lot of the buildings and they are actually big inside. The voice acting is great. The city is dense (and not too big). I suck at fighting but I think I'm getting better. So much fun and Gears 3 will stay shrinkwrapped for quite a while longer...

Activate detective mode and the solutions start to become apparent. Keep in mind that you need to have all the gadgets and upgrades to solve all the puzzles.

bats circle around you and stun anyone within its range, i would do that after a 5x combo, then press b to stun a guy who was stunned by the bat swarm and attack him until i kill him, then did bat swarm again.

The bat swarm actually makes some of the bigger fights insanely easy to rack up a sick amount of points. Sometimes I nearly got the 3 medal score in one round. Once you get your combo up there, you'll be getting 1000+ points for a bat swarm.

You can obtain all of the gadgets in the first playthrough. Some are part of secondary quests, though, so you must have not done everything.

Haven't gotten the Nightwing DLC yet, but I cannot imagine it's anything too impressive. Just more challenge maps, which to me, are the weakest part of this series. The main game is a comic book fan's wet dream. The challenge maps are blah, probably because they put so many of them in, and if you achievement OCD-ish tendancies, like me, you drive yourself crazy and bored playing them over and over again.

Finally got all the Riddler's Revenge medals with Batman. Some of the modifiers made some of the already tough predator maps brutal. Now deciding if I want to wait till the skins pack to tackle NG+, start on the Catwoman medals, or take a break and play Gears 3/BF3/MW3 (when it's out next week).
I'm still missing one gadget, do you get it in New Game+?
I assume you're referring to the freeze cluster? You have a chance to get it very late in the game. I don't remember the location all that well, but
when you're in the steel mill, you have to climb into the manager's office to where Joker was. Instead of going up into the manager's office, there should be a door somewhere in a corner. The next room either had elevators or the elevators appear shortly afterwards, but you have to go down that shaft. I don't remember much past that, but if you see those elevators, you're definitely on the right path.

Those Riddler discs (gameplay spoilers)
require you to touch each one without touching the ground to release a trophy. Each disc-reliant trophy has its own cluster of discs that be a non-trivial distance away, and they're usually in groups of three. For ones on the ground, the Zip Line becomes invaluable. One's on walls require flying into them and jumping off the wall to get to the next one. And remember, as long as you don't touch the ground or wall of a non-disc, you can keep yourself in the air...that means grapple boosting for more height won't "reset" the discs

I just
took down Solomon Grundy (and the Penguin) last night. He felt a little shoehorned into the game since he was in it all of 5 minutes but I still think it was very well done. Also, this is the first time since the 70s I can remember Solomon Grundy making an appearance in major media (not comic books) so it was a pretty cool surprise. Anyway, I just left the museum and turned it off - I hope to make some more progress tonight... maybe I'll try to progress some side missions. I only have one more Titan container to smash (but it is in an area of the map I can't get to yet).

yeah the couple on the tower near the steal mill were a little tricky that required me to keep grapple boosting, then turning around to hit a switch, the repeat. Also the one inside 4 fences in the water, i had to grapple boost them as well.

Some pressure pads require you not to touch them at all, which is where you want to fly in, best way to do that is dive and then swoop up right when you are near the entrance. Those can be tricky too. And last there are a couple pressure pads you have to dive bomb onto like that old carnival game where you hit the hammer hard enough to hit the bell at the top. You have to dive onto the pad, hope it goes all the way to the ? then hit the ? with a batarang.

I don't know if you could call it "major media," but Grundy was used often in the Justice League cartoon series this past decade. They actually turned him into a pretty interesting character.

Really? Cool - I didn't know that. JL is on my list of shows to watch with my son one of these days. Although this morning when I was giving the recap to him my daughter comes up to me and says
"I know who Solomon Grundy is - he is in all of my comics!"
I forgot that she reads Tiny Titans and some other kids comics.

He also puts in appearances in the "The Batman" cartoon, the "Batman: Brave and the Bold" carnoon, and the "Batman/Superman: Public Enemies" animated movie. He's hardly a headliner, but here's there.

Finishing up my first run-through of the game. Awesome, awesome game. They should have titled it Batman Simulation 2.0, because the game does an excellent job of making you feel like the Dark Knight.

Maybe my GOTY. Let's see how Zelda shapes up later on this month.

OK, so I'm having a bit of trouble with some of the side missions.
Oracle added the Deadshot #2 victim to my map but when I get to that spot nothing is there.
Without spoiling it too much, what's the deal?

if i recall, the spot isnt the exact area. there should be an area surrounding the spot. you need to search that area to find what you're looking for

I did that one last night. There is an area above the spot on a small piece of road overpass, the victim is up on that.

fuck with a capital "F". Never before have I been subjected to random save deletions or game ending glitches. However little did I know after beating Arkham City last night and skipping the final Catwoman mission, all my save data would be deleted. Apparently it's a widespread issue that Rocksteady has no fix to. Can't decide if I wanna re-play it. Amazing game but with Assassins Creed and Zelda coming out...I honestly don't think I have the time. Ugh, I'm so upset right now! I was so close to finishing off the Deadshot and the image killer guys side missions.

*sigh*

I finially finished the Zsasz (sp?) case file and now I have to go to Riddler's hideout and confront him, I really love this game but I can't see myself playing new game+ as it's going to be the same thing over again.

There's just way too many riddler trophies and riddles for me to do them all over again, unless I just do newgame+ without getting them in my original game. But still I've gotten so many already....

Riddler trophies carry over, just not the riddler side missions.

Oh so if I find all the riddles and riddler trophies in my original game, start new game+ I wont have to get them again? Awesome.

I made a bit of progress last night.
I started and completed the Mad Hatter side mission (in about 20 minutes, which I thought was a bit odd since the other side missions have been very long). I also beat Mr. Freeze which was pretty fun and I ran into the mysterious stranger to start that side mission as well.
I'm loving the game but I SUCK at fighting.

I got 100% on the game Saturday. That took FOREVER!!!

When the game came out and I saw how many collectibles there were, I said I'd never get them all, but I did. I hated the combat challenges in AA and figured I wouldn't even attempt them in AC. A guy on my friends list said the combat challenges were much easier in AC. So, I ended up going through them no problem.

The predator and campaign challenges ended up being way more a pain in the arse. I'd rather do the combat stuff anyday over the predator stuff. Weird because I felt just the opposite in AA.

Yesterday I did the combat and predator challenges for Catwoman. I started doing the campaign challenges and I'll finish those tonight or tomorrow. Then I just have Robin and Nightwing left and I'll have 100% of the achievements. This should only take another 20 hours. :( The predator stuff takes me forever to complete.

The freeze cluster was the last thing for me to get in my normal and new game plus playthrough. When I got it in normal, I got the achievement for all gadgets. When I got it in new game plus, that was actually the last thing I needed to 100% the game for Perfect Knight - Day 2. :)

That twin elevator shaft in the steel mill just doesn't stick out enough for me to notice it.

So I just
entered the Steel Mill looking for the Joker. Is this the last mission to the main storyline? I didn't think I was close to finishing but now it is starting to feel that way. Maybe not though since I still don't have access to the middle part of the map (above ground at least).

I finally figured out that there is some skill involved in getting the Riddler trophies (unlike AA where all you had to do there was find them). I'm getting better at controlling the batarang and the line thing but some of these are really challenging. There is a TON to do in this game!
