Batman Beyond

CAGiversary!
Last night I was going through some of my old tapes and i found my old Batman Beyond episodes that I taped. So I watched them, reminded me of the good ol days, but that show was just amazing, it wasn't really a dective story or anything serouly hardcore batman but it was still great. I dunno why they canned the show and I know there are no plans to bring it back. But I was wondering if I was the only one who thought that way...does anyone eles like it?

I thought it was a great show too and thought it was wrongly cancelled. I own the movie; Return of the Joker. =D

They're releasing it on DVD on this coming tuesday. I haven't decided if I want it yet. If it was the X-Men or spiderman cartoon from the 90's I'd get it in a second.

Edit- Sorry I guess I didn't realize you were talking about Batman Beyond, I thought you were talking about the original Batman cartoon. Batman Beyond Return of the Joker is an excellent movie, BTW.

In other related news.... anyone ever play the Batman Beyond game for PS1 and N64? I rented it just to see how bad it was.... trust me, you don't want to touch it unless you have a "bad games" collection....

From my understanding the reason Batman Beyond was canned was due to the creative forces behind it wanting to go on to Justice League and concentrate on that. I liked the series a lot more then it thought I would and it really peaked with the unedited Return of the Joker movie, I mean shit I didn't see that one coming at all.

I think we were all blown away by how good the uncut (hell, even the censored version was still pretty good) Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker movie was. I'm so glad they caved in to fan pressure and release the DVD uncut after a while, I picked it up then. Definitely up there with Mask of the Phantasm is quality.

The movie was quite good and the was was pretty decent too, though some episodes got a bit repetitive they needed a few more villians or somehting I think. But I still have my favorites.
the JLA is ok....they make batman look weird...with thm big ears...
I agree, that and superman looks too square.

Batman Beyond was sweet. Not as good as Batman the animated series, but the two are definitely my favorite comic cartoons.

An uncut version of Return of the Joker? I watched a version, but am not sure if it was the uncut one? Can someone please tell me what is the difference between the regular and uncut?

I wasn't a big fan of Batman Beyond, but Return of the Joker was very good. Even better was the Batman Beyond episodes w/ the future Justice League. Now that was a very cool story!

*POSSIBLE SPOILER?*

The uncut version has a scene where it shows Robin being tortured by the Joker. I think theres more, but thats the scene that comes to my mind right now.

END SPOILER?

They thought it was too intense for its target audience, young kids.

Also does anyone watch Static Shock? I thought the crossover episodes with the Justice League were pretty cool. But besides that, the show is OK at best.

They have released some on DVD, in a stupid way though... only certain arcs are released, 4-5 episodes on one DVD (like Phoenix Rising for X-Men or Green Goblin Saga for Spiderman). They should just do it seasonally, but I guess they did what was easier at the time.

The original Batman cartoon pwnd nasty. Can't wait till they release the 90's spidey. In the meanwhile, i'll pick up the newly released 60's Spiderman cartoons on DVD (plug)

His voice was square as well. But then again, Superman is the 'good cop' of the JLA.

Back on topic, I always was disappointed when Batman Beyond came on Cartoon Network. It always seemed to be that animal-gene splicing episode. I wouldn't mind if they brought it back with new episodes.

*** Warning Possible spoiler if you haven't seen the excellent episode with the JLA from the future. ***

You know I've always wanted to see the second half of the two parter with the JLA of the future. The first episode was fantastic. But I never seem toi find it. Did they even make the second part of that episode.

It was very well done, just as well done as the unedited Return of the Joker. Especially the scene where the new Hawkman gets killed, and his mask gets embedded in the cockpit of the batjet.

Yeah they did a second part and it was pretty crazy

My memory is fuzzy on this but basically superman turns out to be the traitor, since for the past 20 years or somethng like that he has been possessed by one of those little star creatures. Ends with them stopping an invasion plan and Batman either flat out declining an offer to join the league or just leaving with an open invatation, sorry can't remember which.

The Filmation stuff that led to Superfriends?

You kids don't know how spoiled you by the standard of animated actions starting in the mid-80's. The source material for Harvey Birdman and Sealab 2021? That was what we had when I was a kid. One of the few saving graces in the 70's was a UHF station, Channel 52, that ran some very odd stuff reminiscent of the pre-Comedy Central MST3K. They were also a Japanese language station on weekends. Some very cool subtitled animated and live action shows on that station like Getter Robo, the pre-cursor of all shapeshifting robots, UFO Diappolon, which has no apparent English version but Google suggests it was huge in Italy of all places, and the utterly hallucinogenic samarai lycanthrope adventure series, Lion Maru.

This being the web, where no childhood memory is too obscure to indulge, a quick Google search reveals a tribute site:

I would buy a DVD set of this to put together our own audio dubs.

Ive seen those, but decided not to buy them. I would rather get season sets. I did watch the Spider Man cartoon for the first time in years on Toon Disney tonight though, and it brought back a lot of memories.

SNIPPED

It was the latter. Very well done with lots of in jokes and references for comics geeks while still enjoyable by the mainstream.
