One of the best movies ever. I am going to be outraged if Ledger doesn't get an Oscar nomination and be pissed if he doesn't win it. BRILLIANT MOVIE!!!!
Christopher Nolan is a ing genius when it comes to making movies. I know how some people were complaining that it was too long, but I really didn't want this movie to end because it was so awesome...
when joker was in the truck chasing harvey in the swat car and the batmobile motorcycle or w/e the hell plays chicken then jukes joker and goes under the car with the wires and the car flips and batman is about to hit a wall then the bike does like a 180 and then he heads towards joker and hits the truck, then the commish comes outta nowhere, lol everyone clapped during that entire sequence
Words cannot describe how ing awesome this shit was. I could watch Joker reek havoc on Gotham all day.
Whenever Joker was on the screen, it felt like pure bliss. "Well, he could be in one spot, or he could be in several spots." HOLY LEDGER PLAYED THE ROLE PERFECTLY.
I might see it again tomorrow night (I'll be in San Diego).

Someone brought 2 beach balls with Batman stickers on them. I've never seen this happen. We hit that thing for a good 30 minutes before the workers took it away. I spiked some guy in the back of the head. Good times.

there wasn't enough Two Face, at all. I mean, he did a coin flip for what, 4 people post-accident? That's hardly enough to end the character at the end of the movie, IMO. I'm glad there was as much Joker as there was given the circumstances, but still.
I do wonder what they'll do with the Joker character in the future films, though. Will they avoid the whole Harley Quinn storyline, as well as the rest of his character, completely?
I agree with you concerning Dent.
Apparently,
Nolan had wanted Two Face as the villian in the 3rd movie, and wasn't going to do as much with him. They changed it to make him more of a foil to Bruce's character, since the Joker is absolute darkness and insanity, Dent was the shining light of hope, and Bruce was struggling somewhere in between. They wanted to have a more complete emotional arc for the characters, although I do wish he'd played a bigger role post-tranformation.
Even if
Dent is dead, they've developed a good record for NOT killing major villians. Comics know it and do it well, but it's something Hollywood has never quite grasped. They think we want to see a villian's origin and demise in a single film. Here we have niether for the Joker, and I think it was perfect. The old films blatantly ignored Batman's refusal to kill, which I think was a big mistake, and thankfuly it's one that Nolan isn't ignoring.
One of the best, and most important, films of the entire decade.
God dammit, I'm seeing this er TONIGHT hell or high water. I don't care if my boyfriend says he wants to "take it easy" tonight like he said last night. The movie theater is right across the ing street.
I hope I can take it easy tonight and my psychotic girlfriend won't kill me for not wanting to go. Maybe I'll go over the weekend, even though I really want to see it...
Honestly, I might be too tired tonight to see it myself. Going paintballing for my internship, and it's my first time paintballing.
Take the BF to see it at paintball gunpoint.
Saw it this morning, too. As a longtime Batfan, I was not disappointed in the least. Very cool movie and a definite must-see again movie. Can't wait to see it again, but I need some sleep. I'm stuck at work after only 3 hours of sleep. Running on caffeine and fumes. Zzzzzz...
The memorial was for Harvey Dent, not Two Face
Plus they never actually said he was dead, just said "Joker killed the best of us" hence Harvey, not Two Face
I wasn't sure myself if Harvey was dead. I could have sworn I saw him breathing, too, but wasn't sure if I was imagining it or not. It was 3am in the morning. Wasn't sure. Definitely a lot of open endings for the next film to cover.
Btw, the Batmobile (I hate calling it the tumbler) and Bat-Pod were travelling across the US last week. I got to take my 2-year-old son to see it and he loved it.

If my girlfriend doesn't want to go tonight lets ditch them and go together. I wish I could get some people to paintball, I haven't done that in years.
In the preview screening we didn't get the Watchmen trailer, but we did get the Terminator teaser.
About a half hour or so into the movie, my wife leans over to me and asks "This isn't R rated right?"
Only complaint I had was there were two people in the theatre that laughed at EVERYTHING that came out of Ledger's mouth. It was so ing annoying! Other than that it was awesome. Can't wait to check it out at the Imax tomorrow!
Did you see his magic trick?
That makes it important?
Look, I liked it as much as the next guy, but a lot of people were saying the same thing after Transformers, and this last fall/winter about No Country for Old Men.
they killed Dent either. It's silly to think the same fall that potentially killed him left Batman relatively unharmed.
Yeah, it was really good. The "most important" movie of the decade though? Probably not.
To be fair, I said one of the most important films of the decade.
It's a lesson to filmmakers, actors, and movie goers themselves, about how to do something different. As far as I'm concerned, Ledger wasn't in the movie, he literally became his character - he's completely unrecognizable in anything he says or does. His performance is that good. I can see why he was having trouble sleeping at night after he developed his version of the Joker.
Rather than follow a Hollywood, cookie-cutter plot construction, Nolan managed to do what he wanted to do, and still give the audience what they wanted. One of the reviews I read said something like, "The film gives you everything you're hoping to see, only you don't realize you wanted it to happen until it actually does," and I think I agree.
They also managed to take a very busy, complex story and make it fairly comprehensive, especially when you consider the amount of important/main characters involved.
I think my favorite part plot-wise is that there wasn't one single climactic moment in the entire movie - no buildup to any one tense scene, the entire movie is wrought with tension as things just get worse and worse and every character confronts the evil inside themselves and tries to decide what they're willing to do to persevere. It's not just an action movie, or a comic book movie, or a crime drama. it's all 3 and it turns out to be much greater than the sum of it's parts. Best of all, the dilemmas they face are easy enough to relate to, as they pertain to moral and ethical problems that could seemingly translate into real life; you don't have to suspend disbelief over the fact that it's based on a comic book to relate to the characters, sympathize with them, or hate them.
I call it one of the best films of the decade because it's not going to be topped for awhile, possibly until the 3rd movie comes out, and I honestly can't think of any movies in recent years which come close to this level of ambition and actually pulls it off.
Let me chime in. This has been the most hyped I have been for a movie since the Departed and this time I somehow had my expectations exceeded. Ledger is great but I think Aaron Eckart's performance is nearly as good and may get overlooked with all the Ledger drama.
I also love that they don't touch the Joker's origin, he just kind of blows into town like a natural disaster.
The Joker doesn't wear makeup, and Two Face wasn't burned.
It was fantastic, though.
How do you know? In which movie, which comic, which tv series? There is no official Batman storyline that any person needs to fallow.
That being said. ing awesome. Perfectly paced, well written, shocking, and well acted. I think Ledger was so amazing that it almost overshadowed this awesome movie as whole.

I believe the origin of Two Face is fairly straightforward.
As far as the Joker, the most widely accepted, or "fallowed," theory, as well as the one from The Killing Joke which details the Joker's past, is that he is permanently scarred as such.
Regarding the ending,
It has left me a bit depressed at the end knowing that I've seen the last of that Joker performance. It was brilliant the way he carried the character, with the ticks and the posture and whatnot. I'm really curious as to what they'll do about it in the future.

Oh yeah.. Love paintballing, moreso than gaming actually.
If you get into it... and I have seen very few that didnt after going... hit me up if you need direction on markers etc.

Heath is still alive, it's all a marketing ploy. When he wins best acting oscar & they ask whoever to accept it for him, he'll walk on stage & accept it himself
I can't wait to watch it again on the IMAX tonight. I think I am going to have to get there a lot earlier before the movie starts. I want to get really good seats this time.
Did Batman get tricked by the Joker when he told Batman the locations of Rachel and Harvey? Like did he tell Batman Rachels location was Harvey and Harveys was Rachel because he knew Batman would go for Rachel?
it lived up to the hype. however i really don't see how it was revolutionary or important for this decade except in how much money it's going to rake in
that said
The Joker was perfect. Definitely the best part of the whole movie. Heath Ledger did an amazing job, especially in the interrogation scene
I loved all the joker setups, the initial bank heist, the assasination attempt, the hospital scheme, and his escape ... the ferry not so much as there was no resolution. i was wondering how they were going to make him "powerful" in the film and the filmakers did it perfectly.
two face felt rushed, and IMO the movie kind of lost something during the ferry boat till the end. however i really liked how they ended the movie with the monologue and escaping on the batpod, w/ the dual meanings of the dark (k)night
no opening credits was nice, just the image of the bat
without a doubt the best Batman movie in my mind, and likely the best superhero movie ever made. however, the over-reaching accolades are premature.
i do think ledger's performance is oscar-worthy, he was amazing.
Did he really have to force himself to become the outlaw just to make sure Harvey's ideals and dreams stayed alive despite what happened? Gordon and his son will be the only ones that will know he's actually the good guy. Now batman will be fighting a two front war. A war against crime and a war against the police who will now do everything in there power to find and capture him. The whole Batman/Gordon relationship can never be the same. I can understand if in the end batman ended up killing someone (Joker?) but to have this happen to him.
I saw it last night at a midnight showing. No Watchmen trailer at my theater though Anyway, thought it was incredible just like everyone else. I don't know if I'd say Ledger's performance is "Oscar-worthy", though he was an excellent Joker. This is just the best superhero movie out there. I can't wait to see it again (hopefully in IMAX next time)

I don't think so. I think Batman made the choice to save Harvey. It was the hard one to make, but he saw Harvey as the one who was truly going to save Gotham and while Rachel was important to Batman, Harvey was more important to Gotham as a whole. It's not a choice he wanted to make, but in the grand scheme of things saving Harvey was more important.

I'm pretty sure the Joker told Batman the opposite location of where they actually were, but I could be wrong
I don't remember either time I watched it getting the impression that The Joker tricked Batman, although that seems more likely. It's hard to tell, but I'm definitely seeing it again so I'll keep a watchful eye for my third viewing
Does anyone else think they made Scarecrow into a fool? Part of what I was anticipating in the movie is in what capacity they were going to use Scarecrow. I knew it would be small, but they totally killed that character's importance in the Batman universe. Really my only complaint about the movie
I don't know if I liked the ending or not.

It's not just to keep Harvey's ideals alive, but to keep the work he did in the courtroom untainted by his actions. It would make it easier for all the mobsters he had put away to get a walk if it was revealed the DA was mentally unstable. Doesn't matter if he was that way because of what happened to him, the lawyers would use it to call everything he did as DA into question and likely get a lot, if not all of those mobsters a walk.
I also think that there may be some hope that if Harvey remains untainted, that his apparent death could rally the city to save itself in a way that, at least according to Ra's Al Ghul, the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents had.

No, the Joker knew that Batman would choose to save Rachel, which is why he gave him the wrong address. I don't think Bruce could choose Dent over Rachel, because he cared too much about her and still believed that they could be together. I guess it would be like having his parents die all over again for him
Batman wasn't tricked by Harvey. Remember when the cops were yelling to go to 250 52nd st.?
They went for Rachel, and they failed there, and that's where Harvey took Gordon's family--where he lost everything, and where Rachel died. Batman knew what he was doing.
It's important to note that usually Wayne thinks of his two sides as different people, Rachel would be more important to Bruce, Harvey would probably be more important to Batman.
And I don't think that he thinks that way. He is Batman, not Wayne. He still wavered a bit at some points, but by the end of the movie, that fact has solidified forever.
Well he said he was going for Rachel. Can't really say he looked shocked due to the mask however just the way they made the sceen made me think he was expecting Rachel.
Also did they show anything after the credits? I tried to stay but had everyone in the row I was in get up and walk out in front of me and I was on the end.
Also I have to say the Terminator preview was not as bad as i thought it would be. However I still dont like the fact that batman plays connor.

Wait, weren't they talking about Joker tricking Batman into going for Harvey instead of Rachael? IIRC, Gordon asked Batman who was going for, and he clearly said Rachael. I could be wrong though. It was kind of late, and I was tired.

Maybe...
I don't remember the exact details--but Batman didn't seem surprised at all to me, and Dent's subsequent actions make me think that he took Gordon's family to where he lost Rachel.
