Battle of the Bands - Available Now (4/21)/ NP: 7.0

That does look very interesting. I look forward to hearing more about that...looks like it has potential to be a great multiplayer game.

This game out today but I can't find a single review about it.

I think it really looks fun but I want to know what songs are on the list and well...just more about it lol

Nintendo Power gave it a 70. Copy/pasted from Wikipedia, there'll be thirty songs, including:That's a pretty fantastic lineup for a first game, although I could do with some more rock and roll; the only rock that stands out is Blitzkrieg Bop and Master Exploder (granted, those are both fantastic fucking songs). Some wonderful funk tracks too. Other than more rock, I'd love some old school rap. Honestly, when someone as snobby about music as I am finds only two songs they hate out of a list of more than twenty songs, that's miraculous. Granted, I've only heard about a third of these, but...

EDIT: Listened to samples of the ones I hadn't heard (I love last.fm), and I gotta say, whoever picked the tracks knew what they were doing. Everything here (except for non-funk bands that start with a "K") is at the very least, above average. And from me, that's no shabby compliment. Wasn't able to find a sample of B Real, though - I'm assuming he's not covering Ennio Morricone, though. And the best thing about this game is that even if you don't like the original version, the other versions are available.

EDIT AGAIN: fuck Keane, too.

Yeah, it is now named "Battle of the Bands" and according to metacritic, only Nintendo Power has reviewed it. They gave it a 7 out of 10 so not too bad.

The main point I want to know is how the motion controls are translated since it is all based on shaking the Wii remote.
I watched an early trailer of Whoomp! There It Is! and was clawing at my ears by the end.
Yes, it should be noted that these are all cover versions. I hope to god the version of Feel Good Inc. I heard on one of the trailers isn't the "original style" version, because if so, their rap cover group sucks complete ass.

Still, nothing could be worse than the cover of Search and Destroy from GHII. God, what the singer did to that song should be punishable by death.

So someone want to update the topic title with the new name of the game and release date?

Done and done

I love rhythm games so I'll considering giving this a look. If it has solid gameplay, then all that matters is the soundtrack which looks okay.

Yeah, I've been really curious about this -- the track list is great, and it's Planet Moon (Citizen Kabuto, etc), but all the covers I've heard have been *terrible* and I'm not really sure what the gameplay is like...

Ok, so I decided to go ahead and give this a try. I'm a sucker for rhythm games after all. I haven't played much, but what I've played has been pretty good. The main game mechanic works just fine, and the songs chosen are pretty good. Some of the covers are kind of weak, but there are some really good ones too.

How do the controls work out? Are they nice and responsive? Do you have to point at the screen the whole time, or does it use the accelerometer?

Can't believe there's still just the one review. Can anyone post the gist of what they said?

Uh... rereading it, there's good reason it didn't make it into my Nintendo Power summary a month ago. The only thing they say that isn't just describing the mechanics is that some of the cover work is bad. That's literally the only opinion in the column.

Figures. One can always count on NP for the least review-like reviews in the business.

So can anyone tell us what the last 8 tracks are?

EDIT: Nevermind, found it on the Amazon page. This is really a $50 game? Bad move, THQ. The last eight tracks are:

Una Mas Cerveza
made famous by Texas Tornados
Keep Your Hands to Yourself
made famous by The Georgia Satellites
Miss Murder
made famous by AFI
Original Fire made famous by Audioslave
Hey Baby Que Paso made famous by Texas Tornados
Shake It made famous by Latin Soul Syndicate
Tierra del Sur made famous by Ziroq
Wolf Like Me made famous by TV on the Radio

Well, that's a let-down. Still, won't keep me from picking this up once it gets to a reasonable price.

It looks like a guitar heroed Samba de Amigo. Shake left, shake right, stand still to hit left, right and middle notes. Looks too simple to be that enjoyable, but I could be wrong.

I love the idea of re-interpreted cover songs, though.

I would say the controls are pretty responsive. You do kind of have to be aimed in the general direction of the screen for it to pick up, but you don't have to be pointing directly at it(I tend to hold the remote vertically while I'm playing). I'm not very good at the game yet, I have no trouble on easy, but medium and up is proving challenging...though it is more fun shaking along to the song on the higher difficulties, because the shakes match the music better as is usual for rhythm games.

I would say Samba de Amigo meets Guitar Hero is a good way to describe it, though those are both better games.

The hardest thing this game throws at you is not missing beats while blocking the other band's attacks. That's why I'm not so good on anything past easy right now, because on easy you can pretty much ignore the block button. Anything past easy though, blocking is vital.

Strange as the game seems, I'll probably also pick it up after a price drop. Seems like it'd be fun with a few friends.

The soundtrack in this game is pretty hot. Having a music player available from the get go is awesome. The rock version of Black Betty is bitchin.

Some aspects of the game I didn't exactly catch on to in my half hour of rental playtime, but it's damn good fun. It'll be a buy when it gets cheaper.

No discussion on this?

I got it for my sister for Xmas and its a fun little game. We beat it on easy but has anyone else? I wonder if its possible to unlock the "Symphony" versions of the songs.

Anyone know if theres a way to rip the songs from the game to MP3? Id love some of these songs to jam out to but I dont know how!

I was kind of surprised too, given it's similarities to things like Samba de Amigo and Rock Band/Guitar Hero. It's a well-made game, and fun too. I have started on the path to beat the game a few times but it's always with family members and inevitably they just want to battle, so I'm not sure about unlocking the symphony versions.

The easiest way to rip the songs is probably to just run a cable from one of your TV or receivers audio outputs to your computer and record it in real-time.

I bought one (well several) as flip bait from the BBV B1G1 and popped it in while the inlaws were over. We about fell out over the spanish "Mama Said Knock You Out", I decided to keep a copy and will use it as a "party" game. I doubt that I'll play through the single player. While it was fun to battle someone else in the room, I got pretty boared playing alone.
