Why do people keep thinking MK8 is going to save the system? I demoed it awhile back, it really felt like a rehash of MK7, but HDified and without the amazing 3D the 3DS version had.
People may like to talk shit about Mario Kart but the truth is every new entry in the series has added something. Whether it be the 3D and 4 player mode of the N64 version, the fun/interesting new mechanics of Double Dash, the online and boss battles in the DS version (god I miss those boss battles

), the amazing motion controls/bikes/tricks + GOOD online of Mario Kart Wii, or the air/sea mechanics of the 3DS version. Every game has innovated in some way and been unique.
Mario Kart 8 isn't like that. Granted I demoes it a long time ago, so maybe there's been some changes, but if there has been I haven't seen or heard about them. Unless they plan on pulling out all the stops and innovating out the ass on the track design, this game IS the Mario Kart 7 engine (lol pun) in HD. Throwing bikes and a few characters back in doesn't cut it, it never has. So unless these new tracks really are something truly special, I see no reason to "upgrade" from the 3DS version (at least not for $60.... maybe for $30 or so). While I've no doubt the game will sell well (or well for a WiiU game anyways), I honestly don't see it moving any consoles. Not when you can get the same damn thing from the 3DS game.
I can't stress that enough either. From what I played of the game, it really does feel like these tracks should simply be DLC for Mario Kart 7. I suppose the bikes could be too for that matter? Either way, unless they've made some changes I'm unaware of, this is the 1st Mario Kart game I will be skipping.... well, ever.
