BB getting stinky on GGC

Max Spider X

CAGiversary!
I had my dad buy a gamer's gf for $15 today so I could buy F-zero with $5 off for $15. But when the cashier saw me with both the card and the coupon in my hands, she said that I could only use one of the 2 to buy the game. So I used the coupon to buy the game and had the customer service credit me back $15 on a previous item I bought by giving them this gift card. Now if we just take out the back cover with the $5 coupon from the gift card CD case and went to purchase the game, would that be considered stealing, even though the gift card itself has no value?

Considering you have to purchase the gift card to get the coupon, yes, it would be stealing to just take the coupon. That's like asking if it's okay to steal the manual from a video game box because the manual "itself has no value." Not to mention we've been over this a million times before.

yeah thats stealing.

call the corporate office and tell them what happened, as obviously the card was ment to be used with the coupon as the are packaged together and the card is basically cash, lol.

Should have asked for a manager, and stood there until one came over.

The gift card is cash and it was designed to be used together. You should have asked for the manager. When I did they immediately just rang everything through.

YMMV. Everytime I go to my best buy and try to use the card & coupon combo, they tell me right off the bat that next time not to put money on the card. They said it's 10 times easier to just grab a GGC from the rack, take the coupon out, and throw out the card. I never do that though because of the fear of being accused of stealing, but they tell me that it's easier for the store if you do it that way.

it was probably just the specific cashier. i've only used the coupon/card once (about a month and a half ago), and the girl on the register didn't even make me put anything on the card, since it would have been a waste of time. i'm going to have to go with everyone else on this one and say that if it ever happens again just ask for the manager.

that's not right. the card is just like cash. that person was just being lazy and stingy. next time, go to the customer service counter or ask for a manager.

If you put $ on the GGC and turn around to use it with the coupon on your purchase of the game right there and now, that is a waste of time. I don't think the GGC are meant to be used that way, mostly for future purchase.

They are meant to be used on future purchases, but the benefit to the consumer is he gets an instant five bucks off. I wouldn't be too obvious about it, though--buy the card, walk outside, throw away the plastic and the trash, come back in, get your game, go through another line just so it's not totally obvious.
They should have taken the coupon and the GGC--the gc should be like 'cash', and it doesn't count as an 'offer' [which of course is limited to one.]

At my best buy i just say hey im just using it for the coupon and he goes threw the procedure. I put 5 bucks on the card a recipt prints and then he slides the card scans the game scans the coupon and then i save 5 dollars. I guess at my location people use it for that all the time.

For bestbuy its probably a possitive for them if they see that 5 bucks are being put on gift cards so it seems like they are working right.

Has anyone else been having a bit of trouble finding GGCS recently. I think my Best Buy stopped caryying them. But what i normally do is buy a few gift cards at a time and then use them later on to buy DVDs.

To play Devil's advocate...a case can be made that taking the entire GGC out of the store is perfectly fine and not stealing as the card is worth zero dollars and zero cents. I would argue that the store would prefer that to someone grabbing ten cards and going up to the counter and putting .01 on each card.

Not only does the coupon have no value, the card has no value until it is given a value...so to come right out and say "YES IT'S STEALING" is a little drastic, as the GGC itself is worthless until a worth is given to it.
