% Beaten?

CAGiversary!
How many games have you actually completed out of your collection? I'm somewhere around 40%. I'd love to buy every good game that comes out, but I like to ration my spending to get the most value out of each game. I have a feelling that the amount of games people own vs. the amount of completed games is going to be rather lopsided :)

I'm doing my percentage based on own and have owned. If I did a percent based on just what I have now it would probably be 20% or less. But that's because I sell off almost every game after I complete it. Taking that into account I'd say I'm somewhere between 80-90% for the games I have owned out of the last gen (PS2, Xbox, GC, DS)

(8% is obviously a typo for 80 so that's my answer.) Although this thread will probably have dropped off by the time poll results are re-opened. :whistle2:(

I moved this to general gaming discussion unless you meant this to be just about the DS. If so PM me and I'll switch it back.

Oops... I wanted to vote for the smallest number, so I picked 8%.

I am terrible about buying sub-$15 games that look awesome and then never having time to play them. Or picking up blockbuster games but never finding time to beat them.

67 outta 400. Not the greatest numbers in the world. I am slowly trying to make my way through them though. I've purposely put aside some of the longer RPG's so that I can run through a few action games recently (Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Katamari, Ico, etc.). Dunno if the OP can edit the poll at all, but if it is possible, you might want to change 8 -> 80 and make it an open poll (ie- no end date). Just my suggestions.

I will have to look into this since I've sold about 75% of my collection in the last couple months, not sure if that will help or hurt my percentage.

I'm probably somewhere between 60 and 70%. My console rate is probably lowerm but I make up for it because I usually beat the vast majority of handheld games I own.

However it depends on what you consider beaten I guess too. Many I've beaten all the main missions or quest for a game, but they techinically aren't 100% completed (I don't do all the side quests on many RPGs for example). So if it's always 100% completion then I's probably more like 35-40%, but IMO it's higher.

I did the same thing! lol. I'd guess Im at like 10% purchased vs completed ratio. Im not the type to continue on and beat a game I dont like just because Ive already put x hours into it. I have no problems about dropping a game halfway thru if Im not into it.

I also hate when I hit a wall in a game. Like a really hard part I cant get past, or in an rpg when you cant figure out where to go next. I tend to just give up on those games.

I played thu Jade empire to the end boss, but I wasnt really feeling the game. I beat the end boss, but then when I found out you have to fight him again I just turned the game off and never played again. So I played thru 99% of that game yet never finished it or saw the ending.

I stopped playing GUN when I got to the final boss. He was an annoying bastard so I just turned the game off and never played again.

i try to beat all the games i own and id say im about 45 to 55 percent completed with all of them. the one game i probably wont ever finish is manhunt and thats because the freakin controls are annoying as fuck. and those stealth kills are so hard to pull off at times due to wanting to get the best one and always getting caught doing ti and having to run away and try again.

What causes us to not finish all the games? I'm not a rich man by any means, so when I buy a game I'm making a comittment of sorts. I'm devoting time and money to something I enjoy.
On a side note, but of a similar vein, I find that if I use cheat codes to get past a hard part in a game, I find my interest in completing the game has been greatly disminished. I start playing the game without cheat codes, and I think, "Man, I can just enter U,D,L,R,A,B and become invincible, why would I waste my time when I KNOW I can beat the game?"

If I had to take a wild guess, I'd have to say somewhere in the 30 percent range. I just listened to the latest 1up Yours podcast and they described my feelings on a lot of games. I jump in and I play a game for a while. Then I think to myself, oh that was nice. I've played this before. Then I move onto the next game. It takes quite a bit to compel me to finish a game completely (esecially RPGs).

Probably at like 90%... I buy games cheap, but like 10 bucks off a new release I dont jump on like some people... and I usually beat my games before I buy new ones.,.. ya I'm Mr. Self Control :)

40% but thats counting my PS1 games. I have about 100. Back in the day I wouldn't stop playing those normally unless I beat them, and most of them I went back and played over, and over.

After having sold off a LARGE % of my collection, I'm up somewhere in the 60's or 70's...feels so much better than having a gigantic backlog

I sold off my backlog as well. Its cool to have at first then after about 6 months it becomes a chore. So its better to sell it off in the end.
