beatmania IIDX 9th Style - New $43 Playasia

Will buy, especially since it's the Japanese version and not the Asian one. Thanks for the link. First I must buy Astonishia Story for PSP though. :D
Limited first print is there with artbook as well as the fact I'm expecting Ubisoft to fail and not hire good Korean translators for the American version.
Had I not just gotten Beatmania US, I would have considered it. Nice price though
Just getting BM US is EXACTLY why you SHOULD get this. You've got a controller. Now enjoy 80 (!) new songs for $43.

I have to see how I adjust to IIDX first though. I have 3, Beatmania 5 Key Japanese games which I lost interest in because the difficulty was too much for me (anything above level 4 was too difficult). IIDX doesn't seem as difficult as I thought it would be but before I buy any more mixes I want to see if I have an easier time with IIDX.

Here's another reason. Some of the music featured on IIDX is good and NOT tripe compared to the crap they feed us in the mainstream. Look at some of the groups and the quality of the music they do and I think there's an easy distinction to make.

I'm new to the IIDX games (just picked up the US bundle a couple weeks ago). I think the 5-key songs are WAY harder than the 7-key DX songs. The timing is more strict and the patterns are much more complicated than IIDX. I'm at the point where I hardly play the 5-key stuff anymore. IIDX is much more fun.

Don't have a modded PS2 but if I did, I'd totally jump on this deal.

Note that those of you lucky enough to have a hard drive/memory card exploit can install and play this one off of the HDD after buying.

Oh no, this is the only IIDX game I don't have yet (besides the Beatmania US)...I've been trying to avoid getting this for a reason! Stop tempting me with good deals! Maybe if I get rid of this CAG addiction...
What difference would the asian version make?
A different boxart?
The main difference between Beatmania US and any of it's Japanese counterparts is that the Japanese versions don't suck. ;)
Is the US version as bad as the reviews claim it to be? I noticed the controller is a bit different.
Absolutely not. I thought the reviews were very harsh, especially EGM's. I'd give the game a solid 8 out of 10.

Never played with the Japanese IIDX controller but from what I've read, the US one is a lot better. Mainly because problem with the buttons sticking has been fixed. The turntable seems a little tight though, but it's not that big of a deal.

I have to disagree with above poster and say yes. I played it, it was lame. It doesn't feel like being a DJ at all, and oh-my-god is the song selection TERRIBLE. There is ONE good song (Lift me Up by Moby), and pressing keys and occasionaly turning the turntable slightly simply isn't fun or DJ-ish. And the free scratch sections are just...stupid.

It would be a lot more fun if the turntable modified the pitch, like the whammy bar in Guitar Hero. Then at least it's KIND of fun, since you can put your own touch on the songs.

And sorry to break it to you, but you can get the same experience for free from a nifty little game called 'O2 Jam' (google it). It has a much better spectrum of difficulty, has online multiplayer, MUCH better music, and you actually feel like you're making the music (the keys correspond to specific notes, so you're actually playing the song).

Avoid this game.

I disagree with sIlverPaw750

If you have never played beatmania, but have played other bemani games and know what to expect, you should like the US release.

If you have played any import 2dx games, you'll probably be like everyone else that has played those and not like the song selection/interface/english text/domestic songs/non-Japanedness etc etc etc.

If you go in expecting a rhythm game, you'll be happy. If you go in expecting to become a DJ you'll be disappointed.

This is the official company line on the game:

What else are you supposed to expect?

You mean garbage American songs right? Honestly I don't touch the radio with good reason and Konami would make people play these songs? Ugh.
I like Bemani for a reason: good music U.S. manufacturers try to keep from us because they know if we heard it they'd have to set the bar higher.

At least Konami is trying to bring some of the better music in the US releases of their Bemani, especially with DDR. I remember how disgusted I was with the US version of DDR Max when none of my favorite songs from the Japanese PS2 and Arcade version of Max were in the game. Now with Extreme and Extreme 2, they put a lot more Dancemania songs in the game.

I have to say I thought the Venus song in MAX was a nice surprise though. Honestly of all the new PS2 DDR's I'd have to say I think MAX and MAX2 US are the best so far from what I've played and I only haven't played Extreme 2.

Dude. I meant the difference between Asian and Japanese versions of the game, not American and Japanese.

And I also disagree with SilverPaw750. There are plenty of good songs, if you're familiar with DDR music or anything besides mainstream techno. Lift Me Up is one of my least favorites, to be honest.

For those who are looking to get an import Beatmania game, be warned that it is a little more difficult than Beatmania US. There's a few songs that I can AA on Beatmania US, but when I play on IIDX 10TH Style, I get B's. Not only the grading, but the overall "Star Rating" for each song is a bit tougher too.

I wouldn't recommend buying an import IIDX unless you can do at least 4-Star songs easily. They don't seem to be very beginner-friendly in the East when it comes to music games...

I hated the USA home versions of DDR for the same reasons you guys liked it.. none of the cool Guitar Freak songs from Extreme made it to the home versions.. and everytime i go to an arcade in the USA some idiot plays Captian Jack ... that song blows.. Konami has terrible songs on Beatmania too, most of them are just DDR songs, (this is going by 5th mix for the PS1)

I wouldn't suggest this game.. and the soundtrack in Guitar Hero wasn't bad.. but then again.. you'd have to like Rock music.. i suppose you'd think it sucks because there wasn't 30 techno songs that sounded the same

You're joking right? Someone should've kissed Captain Jack's ASS for making a Village People song sound good, that in itself is an accomplishment. P.S. General comment to anyone out there. If you're gay or straight and think Village People sound good you should be ashamed of yourself and you know I'm right.

Those songs are why I really liked Beatmania 5th the best. I thought it was cool being able to play some my favorite DDR songs like Do It All Night, Operator and The Race in another Bemani game (which is also why Pop N Music 8 is my favorite Pop N Music game since it has a ton of Bemani crossovers in it especially DDR).

I was kind of dissapointed that 5th was the only Beatmania game to have any Dancemania songs (save for I think Right Now by Atomic Kitten in IIDX 3rd Style).

I do agree that there are too many of those techno sounding songs in Beatmania and DDR though. I usually skip over most of them

The Moby song is a good song, but its not really fun to play. Its too boring. This game pays off tons when you actually put some time into it...

Well to be fair at least IIDX had at least one Super Eurobeat track from Avex which DDR has completely lacked throughout the entirety of the series.

I said "If you go in expecting to become a DJ, you'll be disappointed."
If you honestly read the line you quoted and think you'll be a better DJ, more power to you.

Sarang01: I'm pretty sure licensing is a factor in the conspiracy as well.

I was making the point that the company describes the game as a DJ SIMULATION. And it feels NOTHING like being a DJ. There's no customization at ALL, and free scratch sections suck.

Go play O2 Jam.

Hmmm so they fixed the sticking buttons problem eh? Did they replace the plunger mechanism with springs? if so that's very sweet.

One thing I think the Reviewers didn't acknowledge enough is Beatmania's heritage and how old the game (even IIDX) really is and konami just dragged thier ass bringing it over. Hell When I first started IIDX I was just entering college 5-6 years ago........

Does anyone have a songlist for the US Beatmania?

on a side note they seem to be going nuts at releasing new IIDX's. Sky was released shortly after I left japan last year and when I arrived there They already have Distortion.... and I believe Red is coming out soon for ps2. I really havent had enough time to play IIDX with 360 haha....

I remember when there was a petition to release...was it 8th Style? People were about to cry when they heard that they weren't going to release any new IIDX's. They actually listened to their fans and now they're going crazy with new releases.

To sum it up...
Guitar Freaks > Guitar Hero
JP IIDX > US IIDX
JP DDR > US DDR

COUGHCrackin'DJCOUGH

Besides O2 are the same assholes who bought the rights to all of Taiji's songs and are the reason I can't play them on any new versions of Pump now.

I agree with those bottom two, but Freaks is better than GH? C'mon! That's just crazy talk. Unless you actually enjoy listening to j-pop/rock.

You DO realize there is some good J-Pop out there right? Have you ever heard C-Kay or m-Flo?
