Cubs better get Magglio now....

*edit*
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1962630
This is starting to look a lot better for the Cubs. I heard Beltran will sign with a team by the 12th. Hopefully the Cubs will get him :)

Where do you think he will he end up at? We should all find out by the 12:00 deadline on Saturday night. I hope he will sign with my Cubbies, but bet he will go to the Mets.

not so sure about that..ima die hard mets fan..i would love to see him there but him coming here would mean that the wieght all falls on him for the mets to have a great offensive season...and of course he needs protection which the mets dont have yet...unless they can get another solid hitter..i think beltran might actually stay with the Astros...He hits well there and is surrounded by proven hitters such as bagwell biggio and Berkman...

Usuall Boras's clients usually take the largest offer which is the mets..so maybe..I remeber when manny was a free agent..boston offered him a couple more mill than the other and he took the Bosox offer..

If Floyd and Cameron can have better offensive and if Cameron stops swinging at everything he sees than the Mets might do good in the NL East but the Braves are still the team to beat even without JD Drew...

He'll be a Yankee, every free agent goes to the Yankees. I'd like to see him stay put though in Houston though. He doesn't have to sign by tonight, although if he doesnt do it tonight he has to wait till after May 1st.

Yanks already got a 200 Million dollar plus payroll and my home town Reds have about a 40 million dollar payroll, whats wrong with this picture??????????

Add what you will Yanks -> it dont matter the Sox gonna get ya again!

BEST SOX EVAR!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing against the guy, but I hate how the Mets just throw big money at some big names and hope that they get all the results they need when they still don't have a totally balanced team. I'd rather not see him on the Mets, especially after dumping a shitload of money on Pedro, another big name player that I honestly didn't want to see the Mets sign.

It'll either be the Mets or Astros. The Yankees have all but bowed out after getting RJ, and the Cubs would need to move Sosa's contract first. The Astros non-tendered Wade Miller to clear salary (thanks Houston), and they really, really want him back. The Mets are spending money like no tomorrow, and the last report says they're the highest bidder.

I think the Mets will overpay Delgado if they don't get Beltran.

I hope the Cubs can land Beltran, and then trade Sosa to the Mets for Floyd. If that doesn't work out, I would like to see a Sosa for Shawn Green trade.

I'm not sure the Cubs would be able to sign him as long as they are still paying an arm and leg for Sosa.
Believe it or not the Tigers have an outside shot at getting him. They definitely have the money to spend. But let's be realistic, who the hell wants to come play ball here?
The only reason we got Pudge is because NOBODY else was interested in him.

As much as I love the Cubs, I would rather him go to Detroit. Mainly because that is a team that is young, and very talented. With him on the team, they could def. make the playoffs.

As far as the Cubs, they need to pick up a bat, but I would rather them go after two cheaper guys through trading. Someone is going to want to trade some of their good young talent around the deadline, and the Cubs have done well at the deadline the past couple of years. If they could pick up another Aramis Ramirez for cheap, they would be set

they could probably get Juan Gonzalez for cheap, and if his back is better, would be a great addition for the price they could get him for.

Rusty Greer would also be a great addition that they could get for a cheap price. Great Great player that is often overlooked

He better go with Houston, because Clemens' agents hinted that Clemens woulb be more inclined to come back if Beltran stayed. However, since Houston can't negotiate again untill May 1, it's looks as though we wont get him. And that really, really sucks.

So it look's like he'll be a Met next year.Of course you never know, another team that hasn't even been mentioned yet could make a run at him.

I know that Beltran could be good for the Cubs, but if getting him means getting rid of Sosa, then I'd rather do without Beltran.

I wouldn't be very upset if Beltran goes to the Mets. I'm glad that he didn't go with the Astros, because I'm a lifelong Cubs fan and the Astros are in the same division. Anyway, Beltran wouldn't make much of a difference with the Mets. They need a lot more good players in order to make a difference. They only have a handful of good, solid players at the moment, and one more (no matter how good) won't make a dent.

I guess it all comes down to this for Beltran: make a few more million, and go with a team not likely to make the playoffs (Mets), or make a few less million, and have a chance at the post-season (Cubs). That, or he could end up anywhere else, for all we know.

Back to Sosa... I just feel like he's the last link left in the Cubs... the Cubs that I love. It's very difficult to explain... I remember growing up and cheering for my favorite Cubbies like Sandberg, Grace, Dawson, and Sosa. Dawson retired... and then so did Sandberg (even though he did come back, and thankfully, I was lucky enough to see him play in person during his final, special season). I was heartbroken when the Cubs didn't sign Grace (one of my all-time favorites) again a few years back. However, I am happy that he did get to win a World Series, though (but I'll always remember him as a Cub forever).

So, you see... to me, Sosa means a lot to me. If the Cubs drop him, I don't know how I'll feel. The Cubs might just seem like just another team that hasn't made the World Series in a long time. I know I'll still be a Cubs fan, but the magic won't be as... well, magical. Sosa represents the fans in a way: he has gone out and played year after year, even when the team didn't do well. I believe that he should be in a Cubs uniform until he retires. If only he could make amends with those he was trouble with. If it's his ability that is being questioned, Sosa still has what it takes. He just needs to stop swinging for the fences every single at-bat. Back in 2001, he was more of a complete hitter. He would go for singles and doubles, hit the ball to the other field, you name it... that year, he hit (not sure if these numbers are exact) about .328, 64 HR, 160 RBI if I recall.

Anyway, overall... GO CUBBIES!

That's right go SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been a fan for 18 years( I was named after the Big Yaz himself.)
(thank you dad for the name!!!)

I'd love the Cubs to sign Beltran, but I think the Mets will probably end up getting him.

As far as Sosa is concerned, I'd be willing to trade that chump for a hot dog, just to get rid of him.

juan gone signed a minor league deal with cleveland a few days ago, with an invite to spring training...

im extremely disappointed that beltran didnt go to the astros, but thats boras for you. i figured pujols money(7 years, 103 mil) could be enough but obviously it wasnt. hes gunna find the mets a lonely place when they still cant be the braves in the nl east, but its a great move for the mets nonetheless if they sign him, finally get some legitimacy to them

for the cubs, i would go after magglio ordonez, hes healthy and he'd be comfortable staying in chicago, and it'll be the cheapest you could ever pay for that type of talent

I agree with everyone here I doubt that the Mets do anything for the next couple of years. You have a team in South Florida that will probably win the division next year because they have an awesome rotation, and if they faulter, the Braves are bound to win it again.

Though I will say the Mets were halfway decent for the first half of the season. They could make a run at .500 if they sign Beltran
well it's a done deal, Beltran is a Met.
Hm... I didn't see it coming. Maybe I'm blind. O_O

I didn't want him to sign with the Mets. :(

the mets talent wise needed alot more than this one guy, i thought they couldve been better off spending the 17 mil a year by spreading it around with cheaper options, they need a 1b, wouldve needed another of, and some bullpen help, their bullpen was atroscious last year, their middle guys never help leads long enough to get to looper...

but congrats to them, maybe i'll go see a game or two, would love to see the cubs whoop their ass with a healthy and back to old form mark prior on the mound :D

I agree with that, I am hoping Jim Hendry (Cubs GM) will get his head out of his ass and actually make some moves this offseason. If the Cubs pass on Maggs then they are crazy. They can sign him for a pretty good price for one year, just so Magglio can prove that he is healthy. If he is healty, then the Cubs can try to get him to sign an extension.

Jim Hendry can't really make any moves though. The Tribune Company is too much of a tight ass. No way they are going to pay Ordonez anything near what he made last year and I doubt he would go for that much cheaper (though I guess they do have a little wiggle room since Alou left)
