Best Album(s) of 2008

I only heard three three this year worth buying.

Santogold - Santogold
Black Keys - Attack & Release
Aimee Mann - fuck Smilers

I'm down to a top six so far... still not sure what will come out on top for me... In no particular order:

1)The Tallest Man On Earth - Shallow Graves
2)Max Tundra - Parallax Error Beheads You
3)Why? - Alopecia
4)The Mars Volta - The Bedlam in Goliath
5)Santogold - Santogold
6)Fight Like Apes - And the Mystery of the Golden Medallion
You have a point. But age does have something to do with it.. how many adults do you know that listen to death metal?: point being, there are definitely some genres that are mostly listened to by people within certain age groups.
I know people young and old who like death metal.
---------
My list, all of which are highly recommended.

1. Devotchka - A Mad And Faithful Telling
2. Bloodbath - The Fathomless Mastery
3. Ladytron - Velocifero
4. Opeth - Watershed
5. Walls Of Jericho - The American Dream
6. Meshuggah - Obzen
7.Belphegor - Bondage Goat Zombie
8. MGMT - Oracular Spectacular

If we are counting Radiohead for 2008 it is easily at the top of my list. It might be the best album of this decade so far.

Deerhunter - Microcastle is by far my favorite album of the year, I seriously can't get enough. Other favorites include:

Los Campesinos! - Hold on Now, Youngster
Los Campesinos! - We are Beautiful, We are Doomed (yes they put out two albums this year)
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
Titus Andronicus - The Airing of Grievances
No Age - Eraser
Bound Stems - The Family Afloat
fucked Up - Chemistry of Common Life

I know this is only technically new material- but Bob Dylan's Bootleg 8 really went a long way to make me appreciate him more as an artist. Most of the songs on the disc are alternate versions of material he has already put out- but the new versions almost always end up being better than the originals.
The only album I've purchased in years..

^The only album that I almost purchased in years. :D Loved it though. Especially Unforgiven III. Didn't like it at first, but it grew on me.

I think I only dled 4 albums released this year, and one wasn't very good, so here's my only 3 (and therefore top 3):

John Mayer - Where The Light Is (which is just a live album, so it barely even counts)
Jack Johnson - Sleep Through The Static
Rise Against - Appeal To Reason

Lots of good ones for me:

NIN - The Slip
NIN - Ghosts I-IV
Metallica - Death Magnetic
Meshuggah - obZen
In Flames - A Sense Of Purpose
Soulfly - Conquer
Justice - A Cross The Universe (Live)

The first disc is pretty amazing. Second disc, not so much for me. I dunno, I usually like dark and ambient stuff, but after listening to disc 1 for about a month before getting to disc 2, I totally ruined it for myself :)

some albums I enjoyed this year:

Stephen Malkmus + the Jicks - Real Emotional Trash
Deerhoof - Offend Maggie
Atlas Sound
No Age - Nouns
Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson

Probably going to get ripped for this:

Kanye West- 808's and Heartbreak.

He may be a d-bag, but the guy makes great music.

His performance on SNL this weekend was fucking awful.

I definitely was too critical of this one when I reviewed it. Thanks for reminding me to listen to it again.

I forgot Foxboro Hot Tubs - Stop Drop And Roll!!!, I thought that was a pretty good fake album (or album by a fake band, or whatever).

You should put up a formal apology. :nottalking:

I agree for the most part but "Four Minute Warning" should have been included on the album instead of "Videotape", IMO. Videotape was Yorke's favorite though.

Neil Young's Sugar Mountain: Love at Canterbury House 1968, Oblivion Dust's Oblivion Dust, and, hmm, perhaps Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!!
