This thread might get a little hectic, but that is, of course, dependant if you make it that way. Anyway, what would you consider the best anime/manga of all time? And be Honest!

I have to say that these are my top 5:
Hunter x Hunter
Samurai Champloo
Trigun
Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X
Death Note

Anime sucks dick.

But everyone knows that Macross is the best. That or Lodoss War (and not that piece of shit Chronicles of the Heroic Knight, either, I'm talking about the original OVA).

Cowboy Bebop
Cowboy Bebop
Cowboy Bebop
Cowboy Bebop
Cowboy Bebop

and let the Flame Wars BEGIN!

I am going to be in the minority and say Naruto. I know that the fillers were boring and long, but when it focuses on the manga story lines I find it to be amazing. Its the only anime I have really liked in a long time.

Beck gets an honorable mention.

Series:
Cowboy Bebop
Full Metal Alchemist
Gundam Wing
Ghost in the Shell: SAC
Macross

Movies:
Akira
Vampire Hunter D
Devil Hunter Yohko
Princess Mononoke
Fist of the North Star
I am an idiot and I have nothing constructive to add to the discussion, but here goes.

I watched anime before it was trendy, but had to abandon it when I found other people liked it, thereby shattering my insecurities and laying bare my pathetic attempt at iconoclasm. To avoid looking like I'm completely speaking out of my ass, I'll mention some shows I watched once, knowing full well that it is the equivalent of going to a movie forum and asserting that "Superman" is the definitive comic book movie, and all those new-fangled movies are garbage.
Fixed for typos.

Best anime ever: the only anime worth watching, I give new anime a two episode chance and usually forget they exist afterwards, these are the only anime I watch, believe in, and love: everything else is crap

A Little Princess Sara, anyway you can find it..!
Sailor Moon, in its original Japanese [the BEST ever]
Pokemon, dubbed: an absolute classic [one day people will admit it]
Fullmetal Alchemist, in its original Japanese [only new anime worth watching]
Neon Genesis Evangelion, in its original Japanese [there's a reason why it is what it is]
Revolutionary Girl Utena, in its original Japanese [Junichi Sato is a god]
Avatar the Last Airbender [yes, it's anime, and yes, it's better than everything sans Fullmetal made in the past 5 years.

Honorable Mentions:

Slayers [FUNNY!]
Blue Seed [under rated!]
Kimagure Orange Road [classic]
Dragon Ball Z, in its original Japanese [half your favorite games, anime, manga, would not exist if not for DBZ]
Ranma 1/2 [Takahashi's only great work...!]
Berserk
AGREED.

One of the only animes that you can see visually the development of not only the main char but all those around him.

If you watch the first episode of berserk and then the last you can see that Gutz is like 5 times larger than he was.

fucking thread over.....with kudos going out to Cowboy Bebop Ghost in the Shell and Trigun.

Other than that 95% of all anime is exactly the same. Its why i dont get into it all that much any more.

This is all assuming you ment anime series and not just movies...I could name a thousand movies that are awsome.

I never really like the Kenshin TV series or Trigun. Vash and Kenshin are such tools. They have so much potential, but hardly ever make use of it. Samurai X, on the other hand, is fucking awesome.

Since no one has mentioned it yet,

Fruits Basket!!
also

Beck
Honey and Clover
Full Metal Alchemist
Berzerk

These are some I enjoyed the most. Are they the "best"? I guess it depends on perspective and what you in the mood to watch.

Fruits Basket
Chobits
Revolutionary Girl Utena
Slayers (the three series especially)
Kiddy Grade

for movies:
Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind
Princess Mononoke
Castle in the Sky
The Cat Returns
Oh My Goddess! the movie

Eva was great, just lose those last two episodes (the worst ending ever) and substitute End of Evangelion (the best ending ever)

Cowboy Bebop and Ergo Proxy are my other 2 faves.

Full Metal Alchemist (in its original Japanese) is hands down the best dramatic animated story ever told. Episode after episode, the story just delivers.

One Piece is tied in my opinion with Full Metal Alchemist because at currently 307 episodes released, the show is only gaining steam with its storytelling. In addition, the characters are amazingly developed and nuanced and only add to the drama and hilarity of the show.

Absolutely no doubt: Berserk.

Apart from that, personal faves include Rurouni Kenshin, Fullmetal Alchemist, Evangelion, and Gungrave.

While I love the movie, I'm alright with how it originally ended. Still, if the fans hadn't bitched as much as they did, we may have never gotten the awesomeness that is End of Eva.

If I had to compile a top five, it would probably be (no particular order):

1) Cowboy Bebop
2) Evangelion
3) Ruroni Kenshin
4) Samurai Shamploo
5) Full Metal Alchemist

Honarable mentions would have to go to Bleach (haven't seen anything past what was shown on AS) and Witch Hunter Robin (imo, it ended horribly). Sadly, the only One Piece I watched was the ones that aired on the Fox Box  Now that Funimation has the rights, here's hoping they reverse what those 4Kids bastards have done.
Series:
Monster

Movie:
Ninja Scroll/Fist of the North Star
I completely forgot about Monster... great series.

Hikurashi No Naku Koro Ni was great too

I forgot Monster too. I put that ahead of all the ones I listed actually.

If anyone's looking for a long series to get into, forget that Naruto and Bleach crap. :)

Cowboy Bebop
Eva
FLCL
Gundam Wing
Outlaw Star

Ranma, DBZ and Sailor Moon are actually high quality (DBZ being my favorite of the three)

Miyazaki's work also...

If I had to pick one series though, I'd go with Bebop.

berserk

honorable mention...

cowboy bebop

eva was ok but the ending is just awful. both of them. but end of eva was really really really bad, the whole time i was just thinking "what are they kidding?"...

FMA was awesome, however the resolution of the series (and movie) never satisfied me. Eva was great until the last two eps, which practically ruined the series; EoE fixed that i suppose.

Berserk was pretty amazing as well, however its ending definitely left one wanting more
it's funny how even though the first ep has elements of the supernatural and later eps as well, the last few take you totally by surprise, i mean what a fucking mind-job :hot::hot::hot:
To get the full story you pretty much have to read the manga as well.

that's why i liked Scrapped Princess so much. at the end it felt over, whereas the others essentially left one hanging.. as a standalone 24 eps i think it told the best story from beginning to end. Last Exile is close second in this regard.

need to watch Monster as i've heard good things. also shows like Bleach, Naruto, etc. do have their moments. the chuunin exams part of Naruto and the soul society arc of Bleach were so addictive wow :applause:
that's just weird

i agree completely that the series and movie endings are not good at all in FMA...I personally prefer the series ending to the movie but honestly both suck

but you think the last two episodes of Evangelion ruined the series?

I swear, no one liked those episodes, but I loved them , I thought they were an absolute masterpiece...and while I see the movie as an excellent film in its own right, I don't consider it the ending to the series.
the new ones or the classics ;)

As for best ever... Golden Boy. The gods decree it.
Apossum told me he got Bible Black Only recently. Which he informs me is the most recent. It's cool.

One a hentai that I saw a few days back (for known reasons???) was one I got a huge kick out of called Foxy Nudes... Basically a news reporter that uses her body to do news stories... >_< it was pretty funny to me, but nobody will belive me probably.
