Ok, I'm looking to upgrade my digital camera, for a smaller model actually.

I'm looking for the BEST brand that is out there....what is the most respected?

I'm currently looking at a Canon and a Kodak, and possibly a Sony.

Any others? What is good....looking to spend around $300-$400

I have a sony dsc-p72, i love it, and you should be able to get it for cheap its a little bit older, its a 3.2 megapixel w/ audio and video.... its a great camera. My father has a Kodak, the sony its a little bit smaller and has a few more features. As far as Canon's go I didnt really do much reasearch on them. Sony by far has one of the best products for the money though. Take that for what its worth.

i've heard that kodak is not the way to go when it comes to digital cameras. there film is good, but overall poor quality on their cameras.

i'd go with a canon. they have done good things with their powershot models, and you can get an A75, 3.2 mp, for under $200. my brother just got the A95, 5mp, for around $500, and he loves it. there is a place called steve's digital camera's, or something like that, and he has good unbiased opinions. check it out.

I'm actually leaning towards the CANON S60 (seems like a nice camera...found it for $300, everywhere else is around $400)

It's a 5MP camera....I like it because it is small and actually can have a wider picture than most normal cameras.
Another vote for Canon. I'm loving my SD110. Still waiting for a 5mp SD camera from them.
I saw a good deal on the SD110 with a COACH carrying case...I know the case is worth some money to the right person...although, it is only a 3.2 MP camera. I think I will just stick with the CANON S60 for $300 shipped :)

Seems to be one of the better compact cameras out there

It comes down the the lense that is attached...no matter what the bells and whistles are with the camera, it all comes down to the lens...I have a 5.2 sony camera with a carl zeiss (sp?) lens....and it takes beautiful shots...I have a SLR Nikkon and it is a solid camera, but from what I read their lens are inferior in the digital camera...I haven't heard many good things about cannon..

I'm not a super-serious photographer, but I do dabble here and there. I own a 5 megapixel Sony DSC P10 and I must say that it's wonderful. I've since bought a few more Sony cameras for family members and we all love them to death. I've also had very good experiences with several models of Canon cameras and think the world of them as well.

So I'd say look at any camera by Canon or Sony that has the features you want and you should be a very happy camper. :D

I like Olympus and Canon. Sony is good but if you have a problem with the camera you have to go through Sony, not the store you bought it from. Trust me, it says it right inside the box on all Sony cameras. Kodak is ok, I never had too many of them returned when I sold cameras, but quality wise I say Olympus or Canon. I do not have experience with Nikon or Fuji.
