Ordered Halo Wars. My conscious wouldn't let me order Dark Souls with an unopened copy of Demon souls sitting on the self.
For what it's worth, it looks like the Halo Wars DLC is a redeemable code, not on disc.
I hate when they do that. I understand why, but I hate it none the less.
The new Dark Soul and Dragon Digama is coming out next year. I will just wait then
Doubt Dark Souls 2 is coming out next year

Picked up Halo Wars, been eyeing it for literally months waiting for the right price. Almost bit on it pre-owned just because I was convinced I'd never get it cheaper, so glad I didn't. Plus since I finished AC3 and FC3 I really don't have much that I've been looking forward to beside my backlog(although I have to say, off topic, but El Shaddai is great and if you can find a copy, get it).

And for people on the fence about Dark Souls, here's my take. It's interesting and challenging. However, if you're easily frustrated because you make one minor mistake, then it's not for you. I'm one of those people, and I'm glad I paid 10 for an AW copy since I haven't put it back in the console in a while. Though if this gets a lot more people to pick it up, I might give it another shot.
So here's the deal: I don't mind a challenging game, but from what I've heard you have to put in the time to learn to play Dark Souls. Will I be replaying sections over and over? With my very limited amount of free time, I hate feeling like I'm making zero progress when I'm playing a game.
I'm in the same boat. I have fairly limited playing time also, but I picked up Dark Souls over the summer to add it to my collection and to give it a try. At that price, I would recommend picking it up for sure.

And I really liked Halo Wars. Once you get into it, it has a very addicting campaign. We now have a second Xbox, so my son and I look forward to playing against each other.
....oh and Halo Wars easily has the best cutscenes in the series.

Everyone needs Dark Souls in their life. Especially since all the early buzz on the sequel sounds like it's going to be a casualized shit-trash Skyrim wannabe.

I hate this fucking world so much I hope it ends.

Nice, I'm grabbing Halo Wars now. Thanks! Quick question. What is the online like for Dark Souls? I've been waiting to get it on PC and have access to online rather then on 360 because I no longer have xbox live. Is it worth having access to online aspects or is singleplayer just as well for it?
Regular version, with no bonuses or extra stuff. Like vanilla ice cream with no toppings. :)

Vanilla means without DLC or extra content that was released after its initial retail shipment.

Vanilla is the term used for the original version of the game. So say for example when Fallout 3 came out it was just that, Fallout 3. This is considered the "vanilla" version. Later versions that come out (such as GOTY or PH/GH etc) are usually better and have more DLC added to them for free. This is the case with Halo Wars apparently (I don't own it).

EDIT: I love how we all answered it within seconds/minutes of each other
Oh, so in other words the first printing. Alright, thanks guys. Now i won't have a stupid face when reading post with the word "vanilla."

DO IT!!

Dark Souls is one of the best games this generation, maybe one of the best games of all time. Yes, its hard, but an open world game like this with the combat and challenge, its uncanny, and should be played.

The online is one of the greatest things in the world, but it's entirely doable offline.

If you play online you can summon up to two people within your level to help you with bosses. Also, if you play online there's a chance you may be invaded by another player who wants to kill you. You may also invade other worlds and kill people as well online.
Dark Souls: PS3 or 360?
Your personal preference of controller honestly. I went with 360 but either works fine.

FYI, Online is dynamic, so its not like you can choose who to coop with per se. Chat works better on the 360 cause it actually exists on it via the party chat option, PS3 doesn't have that since the game doesn't actually have a chat option integrated (aka, voice chat has to be done at the system level, which 360 has but PS3 doesn't), but again, coop is with randoms, so its very hard to plan a coop session. Game is really a single player affair 95% of the time.

Thanks for the info! I'll probably wait for the game to go on sale for PC then.

FYI: PS3 version of Dark Souls is now being sold as "greatest hits" so buy with caution if you are anti-red cases like I am. Nice price otherwise, wish I had know earlier when I was out, would have checked in store for a black label copy.

Honestly, even though I enjoy pc gaming as much as console games, this one is better on consoles. The PC port was honestly a sub par offering.

Do you really need a game to hold your hand and guide you through every step? If so I bet your favorite video game NPC is the one named "Follow" from the CoD franchise. You know the one I am talking about. It is the guy you run behind in damn near every level that shows you where to go, what to do, and does almost everything for you but press the buttons on the controller.

I'll be honest, the difficulty is the main reason I've never gotten into Demons/Dark Souls. I'm the type that will play through a game on normal the first time through just to enjoy the game and get a feel for it. I'll then crank the difficulty up and go through it again if I liked the game enough and want a challenge. Don't understand how hard it is for the developer to simply put in a difficulty setting option. Not everyone is up for pushing their gaming abilities to the test when they sit down to play. To each his own, I guess.

This is merely my opinion, but if Demons or Dark Souls had a difficulty option, it would break the gameplay. The formula they have in place just works. In these games you the player in lots of ways determine the difficulty in how you approach combat situations and traps.

LOL, i play game for the purpose of "fun", and for leisure not to get frustrated over mistakes, and constantly dying because of mistakes. and I do not eve like cod

Ok, settle in.

Dark souls, there are two forms. There is human form and undead form. Functionally, there is no difference between the two in regards to your ability to fight. You have the same HP, same chance to find items, etc.. The difference is, while human you are able to summon 2 other players to fight alongside you, but another player can also invade your world and attempt to kill you. While hollowed you do not have to worry about being invaded, but you cannot summon other players to aid you in boss battles.

Since I don't like being invaded I just play in undead form most of the time and shift to human (costs a semi-rare item, humanity or be summoned and help the host kill a boss) whenever I need help with a boss. Also, when being summoned into another player's world to fight, you gain souls along with him and they are not at risk. If you die in another player's world you are just sent back to your own with the souls you gained still in tow. Being summoned is a great way to build up a cache of souls/humanity/experiment with methods to kill bosses without putting your own souls as risk.

When you kill enemies/ bosses you get souls. Souls are the currency/XP of the game. At the bonfires set around the world you can trade a steadily escalating amount of souls to level up and get stat points. Once souls are converted into a soul level they cannot be lost through death. When you die in your own world, you drop all your souls. You have one opportunity to touch your bloodstain (it is about 10 paces back from your point of death) and you gain back all your lost souls. If you die before reaching it, they are gone for good. So as long as you are careful in retrieving your bloodstain, death costs you nothing. It is very similar to the mechanic in Diablo 2, only in Dark Souls you don't have to retrieve your body naked, you keep all your items when you die.

Thoughout the world there are bonfires which are the games checkpoints. Rest at the bonfire and it refills your HP, your health flasks, and sets the bonfire as your respawn point, though it also causes all regular enemies in the area to respawn.

Really, there are kinda difficulty settings in Demon's Souls/Dark Souls. Often the hardest part of the game is starting off being unaccustomed to the style of play and weak. The starting classes begin with a variety of skills and equipment some are much easier to start with than others. A starting class of royal in Demon's Souls is practically easy mode as it starts with a spell which can one shot most enemies for the first few levels. Using a weapon and shield is also much easier than having to rely on dodging/rolling as there is much greater room for error.
It doesn't make sense to call it vanilla...regular, standard, and basic is good enough. What would chocolate be lol?
Nothing. Vanilla is considered base, neutral ice cream, the foundation of all other ice creams. Strawberry is vanilla + strawberries, chocolate is vanilla + chocolate powder/sauce, a sundae is vanilla + X other toppings, etc.

Just a heads up, Dark Souls 360 rang up at regular price in-store. I pm'd the online price without any problem.

Jeez, that seems a little harsh. I don't think that he was saying he needs his hand held, not everyone likes dying because they got shot with an arrow because you couldn't see an enemy behind a pillar and died. I was giving the heads up on the things that would frustrate me, and therefore, I assume would frustrate others. I don't know it's fair to say that he can't handle playing a game on his own...

Already have dark souls on PS3 but bought it on xbox anyway. Also bought another xbox 360 copy for a friend. Merry christmas. Prepare to die MF-er!

It will be out by next year according to a guy on 2ch.

The new DD is quite exciting though.

Dark Souls is really not that hard. Really, its not.

Its more of a marketing thing or just people not being patient and wanting to run and gun through everything.

The only real hard part about the game is when your invaded by other players because many times they are better equipped than you and they will just try and back stab you and thats that. You might run across a few that know the game well enough to use its glitches against you as well, and that's when it gets really annoying.

Is there a GOTY version of mass effect 2? Or does the trillogy pack come with all the DLC for it? I played one, but never had time to pick up 2. But at this price I'm super tempted.

Agreed. Although I do have to say that even at my level 200 character, Atrtorias of the Abyss bosses were pretty damn challenging.

I bought ME2 used from GS for $10. Should I go return it to pick up a new copy at BB? Does it come with something that I'll need like an online pass?

Comes with the Cerberus code. It's a DL code for a pretty short side mission that gets you a new squadmate you can use the rest of the game. I say go for new. While the mission is short it is fun and having another squad member to chose from really helps during the final mission.

I agree that some of the bosses can be pretty challenging. Its just that a lot of people make the game seem damn near impossible and that's not really the case.

The hard part for me is the annoying multi-player invasions. I know that you don't have to take part in it, but I wish the dev would take out the ability to back stab in multi player as that would cut down on a lot of the abusers.

Most of the people who say how "impossible" the game is, I feel, haven't even played it at all, and they're just repeating what they probably heard a year ago and use it as an excuse not to play the game. Not only is it not that hard, it never feels cheap, either. I've played a lot of "hard" games that are just filled with eye-rolling frustration because of how cheap they are or how ridiculous the controls are. Dark Souls is near perfection, imo. The map of the entire world alone is a complete work of genius.
The Halo Wars DLC, are they on a separate disc?
I went to answer your question, checked my halo wars and realized I don't have the PH version. Doh!

Guys - is the DLC worth it? I'd have to sell my original halo wars (maybe get $8-9) and "upgrade" for $4.

It's not hard for people with patience. Today's average gamer that has a short attention span and the need for instant gratification won't be able to stomach more than an hours worth before rage quitting and telling all his friends how awful it was. I've only played Demon's Souls and its easily one of my favorite games of all time. I'll have to make my way to Best Buy here shortly to pick up Dark Souls at that price.

I think we should campaign against the Cali government. Amazon isn't the only online retailer that started charging us tax now.

With the car pool lanes becoming tool roads, they are just trying to take money from us left and right.
