I'm not sure what forum this belongs on, but this should be brought to attention.

My McDonald's employed friend has about $500-$600 worth of those things, and went down to Best Buy to spend them. Guess what? They only allow up to $10 of them per purchase. What a great new rule!! :|

The website still allows up to $40 worth per purchase.

Just curious, but I assume he must have just taken them from work?

tell your friend to use them on the website and make purchases of $40 at a time, it isnt the end of the world, he cant use the bucks to pay for a TV or a refrigerator, but he gets just about any new video game, dvd box set, movie, for next to no money out of pocket. If he doesnt want to use them, or whatever, tell him to send them to me and i will make use of them.

I haven't heard of this policy. I rang a guy out for 57 of them the other day when he bought a digital camera.

make several (likely at different times...) just under ten dollar purchases of sealed media.... then return them all for a lump some credit.

gotta playt it by their books i guess... seems like the only way around it... just keep the receipts and do it straight up. just let them TRY and tell you you cant return ten things at once with ten different receipts...
you can.... and they can suck it. (but then again by the time ANYONE would actually do all that..... they've likely aleady sucked the big one from both McD/BB corporate machines.... so.... whatever one has time for...)

I think mcd employees are ineligable per the rules. I guess it depends on if they excluded just prizes or the BB bucks as well (if you think about it, BB bucks ARE prizes, you are just guaranteed to "win" at least $1) Just tell your friend to be careful.

It must be YMMV. I wasn't there, because believe me, I would have challenged it. I guess it says up to $300 can be used in one visit. I would have demanded satisfaction.

My friends are too passive when it comes to challenging store policies. But I never let my voice die.

Wait.......aren't there BB Bucks that come in larger amounts than $1?

So if you won a $300 Best Buy Buck you couldn't use it?

BWAAAAAAAAA?
Agreed but it is odd for a dude to show up with $300 BB bucks. I mean, Id naturally assume he worked at MCd
Yeah i was picturing the same thing, along the lines of jared from subway(prediet)

Yeah my buddy went to three stores before they would even accept them and even then the manager told him that they were only good for half the purchase price of an item. He left his cd's and the mcdollars on the counter and kindly told her where she could put her merchandise.

What a scam!!!!!!!

I don't see the problem here. You could just use them on the site and grab some new release games. Pay the extra 10 dollars and make a couple of hundred bucks on ebay. This reminds me, a friend of mine is a manager at McD .. I should call him, I miss him .. it's been a while

Yeah, maybe the two of you can go out for lunch.

Holy Shit, if I had $600 worth of those best buy bucks I'd buy every $20-$40 game online that I could. Although it does suck to a certain extent, it's not the end of the world.

Your friend got screwed. No where in the official rules does it say anything about a limit of 10. The only limit is 300$ at a time. Here are the official rules concerning best buy bucks.

If I missed something in there at says there is a limit of 10$ then please let me know.

Hmmm . . . Complaining about doing something extremely dishonest? Maybe you should find a really fat bastard to "launder" these for you. Doesn't work too well when a zit-faced teen with burn marks all over his arms tries to use handfuls of these. (I worked at McD's for a couple months and this stereotype fit me pretty well back then. I don't care for these BB bucks because that experience completely turned me off their food.)

Limit of 40 promotional codes only. I had about 20 BBB, and none of them were over a $1... Stupid ass promotional offer. (goes back to eating at Taco Bell)

I work at the Best Buy near me, and according to a co-worker the other day some guy came in with around $400 worth of these coupons. Considering he had a large amount, my store immediately recognized that he must have worked at McD's and was indeed stealing coupons. We were right and I'm sure he was charged and fired. I wouldn't suggest your friend doing this. BB employees aren't as dumb as we seem.

^It's situations like this that might explain why I've only got Best Buy Bucks on about 50% of the large fries I've bought since the deal started.

I emailed a complaint to McDonald's website about a certain store because if it weren't for the BB bucks chances are good I wouldn't even be eating there. I give credit to corporate McDonald's, they sent me a gift certificate for a free combo meal in the mail so that is a small consolaton at least.

My wife worked at McDonald's in her high school years (this was well before the Best Buy Buck promotion) and said they tried to keep a tight inventory on the containers with the Monopoly game pieces on them. She said they went so far as to lock those containers in the manager's office. I would hope that all Mc Donald's have some kind of security measures in place.

Unfortunately, I could see ways around this. Here's one conspiracy theory, lol. Employees could give a regular size fry out in place of the large fry and just keep track of how many large fries they scammed customers out of through out the course of their shift. At the end of the night they could either slip the large fry boxes into their personal clothing/bag or maybe slip the boxes into the trash and when the trash was taken out for the night maybe slip the boxes back out. I've got a regular fry instead of a large fry in the past and couldn't help but wonder.

I worked at Arby's during some of my high school/college years and I have no doubt some employees would try to smuggle some of the BB bucks out. I don't think it would be that difficult to smuggle containers with the game pieces on them out past the manager if they were smart about it. A decent amount of the managers I've came across in fast food were lazy as all get out anyway and spent a good deal of time in back at their desks.

I personally love the Best Buy Bucks promotion but if customers don't get the bucks on the items that are advertised to have them, then the promotion could do more harm than good over the long run. Any one else more than just a little po'ed when you don't get the game piece on food you never would have bought in the first place had it not been for the Best Buy bucks?

Your friend got scammed. And if he left the best buy bucks I bet that employee was happy.

The limit is $300 per day and $3 off a DVD or CD.

I would bring in the terms and conditions:

To redeem Best Buy Bucks at a Best Buy™ retail location: To use toward the purchase of Best Buy merchandise in store, present to the Best Buy cashier at the beginning of the transaction. Limit of $3 in Best Buy Bucks may be used toward the purchase of any single CD or DVD. Limit of $300 in Best Buy Bucks may be redeemed per customer per store visit (all visits to a store in the same day are deemed a single "visit"). Cannot be used toward purchase of certain products and services, including but not limited to, Best Buy Gift Cards, video game hardware, tax, Maytag® Neptune™ washers and dryers, and Gemini™ ranges.

If best buy would not accept the best buy bucks I would write Best Buy and McDonalds and ask them for an explanation and some sort of compensation for their incompentance.
Your friend got scammed. And if he left the best buy bucks I bet that employee was happy.

HOw did his friend get scammed? It sounds like he stole them from McDonalds in the first place. Noone can eat enough at McDonalds in the last two weeks to get $300 BB bucks.
If best buy would not accept the best buy bucks I would write Best Buy and McDonalds and ask them for an explanation and some sort of compensation for their incompentance.
Yes, please do. And don't forget to mention in the letter that your friend is a valued employee of the McDonald's corporation.

Haven't heard of this, but then again I don't go into BB with excess amounts of BBB. I only have like a few anyway, it's not that worht it that much to eat there a ton of times for them.

Yeah, 40 free bucks is still pretty nice.
Just buy Games, DVD and Cd's. FOR FREE!
part of the rules say:

"Limit of $3 in Best Buy Bucks may be used toward the purchase of any single CD or DVD. "

I guess BB bucks are a sham, especially if you'll never EVER get more thn $1 when you spend at least 5X that just to get it.

i was going to say the same thing. this is another example of two things happening:
1. best buy attempting to limit a sale/offer by likely misinforming its employees on purpose
2. people who have no idea what the heck they are talking about working the cashiers or being managers...

http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php?catid=45&threadid=372884

also from that fatwallet thread, mark posted this:

Two counts of fraud on Best Buy's part. They tried to impose a fake rule on me last year, and I ended up getting everything taken care of (not on the spot, though -- I didn't feel like arguing at the time). This year, I'm taking my $300 in Best Buy Bucks there on Black Friday, along with a copy of the official rules, and I won't leave until they honor what the rules clearly state. Of course, I'm hoping it won't even come to that.

And just for the record, it's very much "legal" to use a coupon, Reward Zone certificate, gift card, etc in a purchase with Best Buy Bucks. I've been through every word of the official rules multiple times (because, even though MillionaireNextDoor mentioned it in jest, I actually have seriously considered becoming a contract lawyer) and it doesn't say anywhere that BB Bucks are "not valid with any other offer". They're supposed to be treated like cash (or moreover a Best Buy gift card) for the most part.

I just hate when the employees don't know about promotions and try to pretend they do, and I'm disgusted when the management has actually told the cashiers to be purposefully deceitfull about it.

Anyone who goes through such an experience should write an e-mail or letter to Best Buy corporate right away (form/address at www.bestbuy.com) and, if it's a serious enough matter, request information from the National Arbitration Forum (in charge of legal handlings of the Monopoly game) -- http://www.arb-forum.com.

----------------------------

An extra note: For anyone who's worried about not being able to redeem their BB Bucks because of a rude cashier or even manager, here's some pertitent info for you:

Official Rules: http://codeentry.promotions.com/monopoly/us/page.do?page=rules.html&l=e#misc

a) Make a note of the Best Buy store number you're going to (you can find this at BestBuy.com's store locator feature -- http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=cat12090&type=page&isCarFi=null)

b) If you have a cell phone, make sure to take it with you.

1) If they try to tell you there's a $3 limit on anything (not just CD's and DVD's) or they mention some other fake limit, refer them to section 4.c.i.1 of the Official Rules:

Limit of $3 in Best Buy Bucks may be used toward the purchase of any single CD or DVD. Limit of $300 in Best Buy Bucks may be redeemed per customer per store visit.

The $3 limit is very clearly only for CD's and DVD's. Aside from them, virtually everything else is not limited until you reach $300.

1a) If you want to use a coupon, Reward Zone certificate, or gift card, in addition to Best Buy Bucks, and they won't let you, ask them to show you where in the Official Rules it states that you aren't allowed to use coupons or whatever with your Best Buy Bucks.

2) If they try to tell you they imposed extra rules because of increased fraud or some other bogus reason, refer them to section 10.f of the Official Rules:

These Official Rules cannot be modified or amended in any way except in a written document issued in accordance with law by a duly authorized representative of Sponsor. In particular, McDonald's restaurant employees or managers and Best Buy employees and managers are not authorized to modify or amend these Official Rules.

Ask them to provide you with proof of the written documentation of those amended rules. That last part about employees/managers not authorized to change rules should hopefully make an impact on the person you're talking to.

2a) In the very slim possibility that the employee/manager pulls out this quote from section 4.c.i.1:

Cannot be used toward purchase of certain products and services, including but not limited to, Best Buy Gift Cards, video game hardware, tax, Maytag® Neptune™ washers and dryers, and Gemini™ ranges.

If you're dealing with a devious Best Buy store and they say the "not limited to" clause allows them to put a cap on any item, you can shut them down by saying something like the following: "Would you be willing to have the National Arbitration Forum investigate every single receipt from every Best Buy store in the country and see that no one used their Best Buy Bucks toward [the item you're trying to buy], and then face a hefty fine if they find out otherwise?"

3) If they are persistent with not letting you use your BB Bucks, and you have a cell phone available, call the toll-free corporate number: 1-888-BEST-BUY -- go through the menu options to get to a real person. I believe the current set of numbers to press is 3, 4, 3. Tell them what store number you're at and that they won't let you use your Best Buy Bucks. From there, hopefully the situation will be solved.

4) If for some unforseen reason, they simply will not let you use them, leave the store and do as I suggested above and request information from the National Arbitration Forum. At this point, you are very much entitled to take legal action against your Best Buy store. While you most likely won't end up in court or anything like that, you'll most likely at least get a settlement in the amount of Best Buy Bucks that you weren't able to redeem.

So there's the step-by-step process for you . As I've said, hopefully no one here will even have to go through any of this. But it's better to be prepared if you're like me and are planning to do virtually all your Christmas shopping in one visit to Best Buy.

----------------------------

On the plus side of things, it's good to see people getting their SASE-requested game pieces back. The rules say odds of winning a food prize are 1 in 8.6 (and that's 8.6 game pieces, not game stamps -- a "game piece" is actually two stamps (a.k.a. properties)). So far, it's been like 1 in 5 for me. I'm really hoping for any kind of big prize (last year I got a $50 cash prize and a $50 BB gift card).

I don't have to worry, I only have $ 1.00 in BB bucks to spend. I don't know how your friend got so much money in BB bucks. Mcdonald's is O.K. once in a while but i don't make a habit of it. We all know the results of "SUPER SIZE IT". We are getting too fat . I love to play video games and eat junk food but I also go to the Gym and work out. It helps keep the balance.

I think mcd employees are ineligable per the rules. Yeah they maybe excluded but they can't really keep track. They would have to ask every single person who uses them and go off the word of the person. Pointless.
When i worked at McDonald's 2 years ago, I was able to use the free food coupons, even at the store I worked at. I think you are only excluded from the big collection prizes.

One way to amass huge amount of BBB is to do the SASE request for game pieces. Send in 1000 requests and get at least 1000 BBB. Now tell me I cant use my BBB that I lawfully obtained and I am going to sue your ass. I smell a lawsuit.

Noone said you can't use them. There are limits posted in the rules though on how they can be used. Sueing them wouldn't help if they are following the rules they have posted.

Took them from his place of employment. Or another employee handed them to him through a drive thru window or back door.
