CAGiversary!

FAQ:

When does the sale being?
The sale begins on MONDAY SEPT 12th when bestbuy opens

Is the sale also online?
no one knows for sure, often bb keeps prices the same, but like i said, this isnt a guarantee. some people are ordering online now and hoping to pricematch later, again, this isnt a guarantee.

Why are people saying they are getting games now, when the sale dosent start until monday?
some people are buying games ahead of time for full price and going back later to get a price adjustment on the games.

BB.com says the games are out of stock in stores around me, is that reliable?
no, its not reliable, it might be right, or it might not, this is from first hand experiance i had today (going to BB then checking avaliability of games i knew where on the shelves when i got home..)

Should i call and ask about the sale?
no, very rarely is calling and asking about a big unadvertised sale a good idea. it can tip off employees that the sale is even going on, also some empolyees might know about it and might have been told to deny it, and some might have no clue at all.

Will the $5 off coupon work on these games? (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58353)
that will be YMMV, the coupon says in black and white, excludes clearance items, so if you get shot down dont cry about it.

I could get a bunch of games for $1 and trade them back to EBGames for $5 each. Trade in 5 for $25 deal... Does anyone happen to know if that's still going on?

My last post was a little outrageous, but I got my message across. It seems that there are some positives and negatives to the sale.
Positive:
Its a sale, duh.
The OP's post said a lot of games
More than likely, people will be able to use the $5 off coupons to get some free PS2 games.
Negative(For lack of a better word, because IMO, there is no negatives with a sale, just positives):
Not new/expensive games

skipping classes monday. Im going to go to best buy at 10am and run into the store screaming... if there is no games on sale at least it be a practice run for the day after thanksgiving : )

Your Bestbuy might not have the game you want

Hopefully, though, this will be a good sale. And everybody can get something good.
time to start printing those $5 off ps2 game coupons :D
They won't work on clearance games, I was turned down just yesterday because a game was clearance. The computer doesn't give a discount, but recognizes that the coupon was scanned.

Somebody on the IGN Xbox General Board mentioned a lot of games at 50% off that have been slow moving. The ones they mentioned were Jade Empire for $15 and Beyond Good & Evil for $4.99. I'd love to finally pick up BG&E for $5.

Not too shaby. I'm amazed Y's has dropped as fast as it has.

Glad I don't have class on Monday, because I'll be waiting outside the doors by 9:00 AM. :whistle2:D

Trade-In Fodder - Here I come!

Eh, few things look kinda good on there, but I dunno if it's worth spending the money on gas to drive into town to see if any of those are actually there.
before anyone start get exciting, try using store locator to see if any store has them first.
Not too sure how reliable the store locator is, though, as I've found games there that were supposed to be OOS.

That's a good idea. Unfortunately, my Best Buy didn't have the 3 games I wanted. Bummer. Thanks anyway OP.

WANTED (for future reference, in case anyone gets extras):

XBOX
$0.99
Star Wars Starfighter
Crash Nitro Kart
Catwoman

Yager

$4.99
Midnight Club 2
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
Shellshock Nam '67

Mech Assault 2: Lone Wolf
Bard's Tale
Fight Club
Spyro: A Hero's Tail

$9.99
Mortal Kombat: Deception (SE)

i just try using the best buy web site on a bunch of games, and i have so far find one game that i want for pick up. I really hope this will be online so i can use it for PM.

FYI, Best Buy's store locator feature is useless when it comes to media items. I've had several problems with them listing an item as OOS and then seeing 4 DVDs sitting there half an hour later. The customer service people themselves told me that it's not reliable. And this was at two separate locations.

You'd think a big company like Best Buy would get its shit together (in this way and in many others). Especially since most of the things they sell deal with some sort of technology. Hell, they just started allowing Reward Zone points for online purchases earlier this year.

Looks good...but hopefully this is really true. Does Best Buy computers adjust the prices or will we have problems when the games ring up .99 from managers?

OK. This is my official wanted list, because the local Best Buy has absolutely none of these in stock.

Again with my common sense comment. One user posted it, another posted the list. ffs, think!

I posted mine at about the same time, didn't read this. So nm.
Will these games be tagged in some way so costumers would know?

Also will the Mcdonald coupon work for XBOX games.
Your 1st question was good. I'll answer that one nicely:

There's a small chance they might have SOME of the game prices updated on the more popular/expensive ones, but I can guarantee that not all of them will be marked that are on the list, so you'll definitely want the list in-hand when you go.

as for question #2:

Have you read the coupon? how hard is it to figure out a coupon that says "$5 off purchase of Any Playstation 2 Video Game"?

The fine print also says: "Excludes...clearance...items". OP said this was a clearance/sale for slow-moving games. The ONLY possibility we'll have of using it, is if they don't have ANY mention of the lowered price other than what it rings up at the register.

If it's a completely incognito price drop, like Tomb Raider for $4.99 hiding in a display clearly marked $14.99 games, or XIII for $4.99 with the price tab showing $14.99, we should be able to use the McD coupons. Those are clearanced, but they don't seem like it. It's mostly up the cashier, so also try to find a copy of the game that isn't marked with any kind of price, that way whatever it comes up as, they can't argue the fact that it's clearance if there's no regular price showing on it. One look at a $19.99 marked game showing as $4.99 sends red flags and sirens.

I'm thinking of going there tonight just to see what they have in stock, so I can narrow my search on Monday.

Final Note: based on your previous posts, I'll spell it out: The PS2 McDonalds coupon does not work on ANYTHING except PS2 games.

I know my store had like 6-7 Y's in stock when I went there about 2 weeks ago. No way they could have all suddenly disappeared. Unless staff already have wind of this deal and either A) Took them off the shelves in preparation for the sale or B) Bought them all themselves.

Ok so far found a copy of Final Fantasy I+II at E. Palo Alto ready for pick up.
Even if some of those games are in stock, it is most likely going to be few copies. Does anyone remeber the last time BB has clearance are any of those deals online?

I love that somebody mentioned earlier in the thread "well, none of us are expecting Paper Mario 2 to be on the list" and there it is for $9.99. If I hadn't snagged it back when EB had it for $20 I'd be all over that.

Great list. I really hope some of them are still in stock when I get outta work at noon on Monday.

Hmm. I might have to make a trip to Best Buy on Monday. I wonder if the games will be marked correctly, or in a bin or such. It would be pretty awkward to walk up to the front counter and wait for 15 minutes in line, because there is only one line... only to find that the games are full-price.

It's worth it if they ring up the sale price :)
