CAGiversary!
I figured that by the time I got home from work this would have already been posted with the list, but it looks like I should have brought the list home with me. Best Buy is putting a ton of slower-moving games on clearance starting Monday Sept. 12th. Prices ranged from .99-9.99, with most being 4.99, and included games for all systems.

FAQ:

When does the sale being?
The sale begins on MONDAY SEPT 12th when bestbuy opens

Is the sale also online?
no one knows for sure, often bb keeps prices the same, but like i said, this isnt a guarantee. some people are ordering online now and hoping to pricematch later, again, this isnt a guarantee.

Why are people saying they are getting games now, when the sale dosent start until monday?
some people are buying games ahead of time for full price and going back later to get a price adjustment on the games.

BB.com says the games are out of stock in stores around me, is that reliable?
no, its not reliable, it might be right, or it might not, this is from first hand experiance i had today (going to BB then checking avaliability of games i knew where on the shelves when i got home..)

Should i call and ask about the sale?
no, very rarely is calling and asking about a big unadvertised sale a good idea. it can tip off employees that the sale is even going on, also some empolyees might know about it and might have been told to deny it, and some might have no clue at all.

Will the $5 off coupon work on these games? (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58353)
that will be YMMV, the coupon says in black and white, excludes clearance items, so if you get shot down dont cry about it.

I went to Best Buy in Emeryville and there were about 5 copies of Metal Arms, A few Terminators, and a few crappy xbox titles left.
I ordered it the second I found out the sale was online.
Sounds like BB.com has some sort of wacky "last in, first out" sort of deal for online orders. Want to drop one of their refrigerators on whoever decided on that one. :fridge: I figure I must have ordered my copy about 30 minutes or so before you did then and it's shipping for you. Oh well. Might as well plan what to get for the EB Games/GameStop's upcoming b2g1f deals to make up for this mess.

good grief over 100k in views alone..and about 2k in replies.. this is the biggest fuckEN THREAD I HAVE EVER SEEN. Now black friday's preview thread has to beat this one and I have the feeling in me bones that this year is gonna be a good one.

I can't wait. I would assume there'll be some decent Xbox closeouts since the 360 is right around the corner.

As for the massive numbers of posts in this thread? It's mostly people stating "Did you know I went to ___ BB and the games were $9.99 instead of $4.99?" :D

That's complete crap, since more than one rep has told me that they operate on a first-come, first-serve order policy, in chronological order.

And bitching to BB corp doesn't have any effect, since the BB.com folks are their own independant organization, just in case anyone was wondering about it.

Actually it's called LIFO: Last In, First Out. Refrigerator still applies.

(I have to make use of my years of worthless Accounting classes SOMEhow)
Wow...this thread I started as a whole lot of replies. I'm such a proud father.
Yes, thanks to you I've gone from Cheap Ass Newbie to Cheap Ass Regular in a week! ;)

yes...i am seriously hoping that xbox will drop in price to under 100 bucks on BF...but right now I want the PS2 to drop under 100 bucks...RE4 for PS2 is looking amazing....ohhh ada wong :p

A few days ago , i read that retailers aren't doing that good this year (uh could it be that HIGH gas prices are forcing people to limit travel and spending!??!?!)...black friday could be there comeback IF they make it work right this year.

WTF! I just got a package from best buy and even though I got the same tracking number for all 8 games I ordered, only 3 came in right now and one of them I didnt even order! i can already smell the BS and hassle that this is going to become.

 WTF is right! What were you supposed to get and what did you receive?

To those who were mentioning Taiko a couple days ago - a thank you.

I bought the bullet last night. A friend of mine and I went to the only BB by me that I had recently seen Taiko at, and between us we purchaed the last four sets (two each) for $33 after tax each.

Two player drum world, here I come! Plus, the back says you can do crazy shit like watermelon eating! Why didn't I buy this game before? XD

I went back to BB today thinking maybe I'd pick up Namco Museum for $15 with the GGC coupon after the disappointment of finding out all the $4.99 titles were actually $9.99 there. You know that day when the titles rang up for more than I was expecting I told the girl nevermind and she said wait, sincerely making an effort to help, and went and talked with a manager for a few minutes about it. To which the manager replied, no that's the right prices. Well today, the few games left on the list had yellow tags on them for $4.99... No matter, I found Fairly Oddparents (not there the other day) for $9.99 and picked that up for my daughter instead of Lemony Snicket for $4.99....

I just got two of my six games that I ordered today.

Good news for me on one of them: The OP states that Colin McRae 04 is $4.99. Well, after I ordered I noticed that the game on the website and on my order was actually 03. Fortunately, the 04 version is what showed up with my order. Probably not much difference between the two, but I was hoping for the more current version.

Crash N' Burn should show up tomorrow, and here's hoping that my Silent Hill 4, Tron 2.0, and Yager eventually ship. Either way, I'm off to BB right now to see if there are any scraps left for the picking.
Theyre all gone now :(
Well, online it's pretty much done and dead (and was within the first few hours of the sale), but some people are still finding a few bits of pewter in the Best Buy aisles. Don't feel so bad. Many of us who placed orders before and immediately right after the sale never haven't gotten our games and probably never will. :wall:

I went into BB yesterday and from the sale I ended up with Rocky for PS2 (can't go wrong for a buck) Magic battlegrounds for xbox for 5 (price is right for this one,... its average.. ) then I picked up Morrowind for 10 and the bard's tale for 5 so I felt I did pretty good.. I wanted to abuse the $5 off coupons but decided that I didn't want to spend a bunch of time in the store (stopped on the way to a concert) so i passed but still amazing deal.. thanks for the heads up thread.

Only game I picked up way Ys for $10. Everything else was $5 and $10, including the supposedly $0.99 titles. :whistle2:? But the vast majority were for $10.

Wow - you got Bard's Tale for $5? Nice deal. It was $10 online and at most stores. I never saw one and I'm pretty sure I'll never get my copy of it online. Nice to see some people finding it for $4.99.

I placed my order late on Sunday night . . .

Crash Nitro Kart-Xbox

Silent Hill 4: The Room-Xbox
$19.99
$19.99
$1.99
$1.12
$23.10

Order Total:
$104.99

I figured that all would be adjusted to $4.99 except .99 for Nitro Kart . . . so, I could get it down to about $40.

All shipped except Nitro Kart but have not yet arrived.

I called to adjust prices or cancel on Mon. I was told it was too late to cancel and that I would get an email about the adjustments. I've received no email.

Now, I plan on taking the games and returning them instore and trying to rebuy them on the spot. If that fails, I will just eat the $8 shipping and chalk it all up to "experience." Along the way my opinion of Best Buy continues to slide.

I did get $10 Otogi 2 and Mr. Driller instore!

I have an extra sealed Otogi 2 that I will send out for $17 via paypal, if anyone is still looking for it.

I hit up the Pearland, TX BB tonight and to my surprise they still had some games. I picked up:

Tron 2.0 (xbox) - $4.99
Growlanser: Generations (PS2) - $9.99
Doom 3 Guide - $.01

They still had a few Trons, 1 more Growlanser, Some Blood Rayne 2's for both systems, a few Chestmasters for xbox, 1 more TY 2 for xbox, a bunch of the incredibles for the xbox, a few Bard's Tales, a Bunch of Second Sights for both systems, Some Lemony Snickets, a bunch of Otogi 2s, a bunch of arcade treasures 1 and 2, a bunch of Godzillas for the xbox, a bunch of fight clubs, a bunch of Mega Man x commands for the cube, and a few more other games from the list. If you are an area CAG you still may find something there you are looking for.

Edit: They also had a ton of Astro Boys for the GBA. I tried to buy a Tarzan (GBA) for $.99, but it had that damn end cap value sticker on it and it came up $9.99!

Anyway, the Growlanser is for trade. Looking for a SH4 + any one of these xbox games. SRS, R63, HTR, SRR.....I may also consider trading it for MA2: LE or MC:KE or check my list!

Here's a bit of a secret about Best Buy if anyones interested...
Every monday clearance items get maked down by in store(rarely) and in the computer system. In other words, you won't see any stickers with the clearance prices. One item everyone seems to be interested in is Game Guides. And that's the secret. Game guides are ALWAYS knocked down to a penny for what they call "penny outs". What this means is that older guides(only about 3 months old or so) are put into the system as a penny so they can be thrown out. Yes,they literally throw them into the garbage compactor and throw them out by the end of them day-or whenever they get around to grabbing them off the shelves. My suggestion to anyone interested in game guides from best buy: take a whole shitload up to a media associate or a cashier(since media doesn't have a kiosk for price checking) and ask them to give you a price check. I guarentee they'll be at least or 3 out of every 15 or so different game guides. I used to make a killing buying 20 guides or so for only 20 cents then selling them on EBay. Just a little FYI. Sorry it was dragged out

Btw to anyone that thinks "this seems to good to be true". Believe that and it'll be a fellow CAG'er that buys all those guides. Enjoy folks and feel free to pm me if you found any(for my own interest sake)

D'oh! #-o You just named a whole bunch of games on my list I've been looking for that are in BB.com limbo. Too bad I'm over 1385 miles from your Best Buy. LOL.

On a side note, I've noticed that on the BB.com site they've taken down off the site almost all records of the games on sale. When you type in their name (I didn't try all of them), the record for you to click on is no longer there.
Anyone who is interested, Rocky (PS2) is in-stock online. ^_^

I would buy that right now ($1 plus S&H - why not?) - but I had some unfortunate luck. My GF's doctor charged my bank card without my permission last week (because I paid for one visit months ago, they kept the card on file) and ended up emptying my account. I just got all my money bank (and got my paycheck), but because of the fraud investigation that is going on, I had to cut up my card and have to wait for a new one. :bomb:

Back on topic: Do a search for Silent Hill on bestbuy.com - go ahead, I dare you! It seems to have been, to paraphrase Penny Arcade, slapped off the internet; looking up SIlent Hill 4 will only return David Bowie's Sound + Vision. Shame I own it already...

What... the... hell...?

I just got Silent Hill 4 and BloodRayne 2 in the mail. I go and check BB.com, and both are still said to be "InProcess"!!!!!!!

Now the real ironic part is that I just bought a used copy of BloodRayne 2 in EB's b2g1 sale. I was planning on cancelling the BB order as soon as I got home. :wall:

What the? That's plain weird. Were you billed for the items? I still haven't been billed for any games including the one that I should be receiving soon. Weird.

I would assume you will return it at your local BB?

I've had the same thing going on...both games I received today came without a billing statement and both had a price sticker of $0.00 on the front, but this is Best Buy we are talking about, so I'm sure their charges....or double charges will catch up to us eventually :D

I guess returning the Best Buy one would be easiest, since the b2g1 thing would complicate whole return process on the used one. Heh, that would be funny if I could still cancel the order.

If anyone was able to pick up a couple of copies of Paper Mario and would like to sell to me at face value please PM me! Im just looking for a break. :(

Let us know how this goes, because others are in the same boat. Hopefully the CSR at a BB B&M can credit/adjust the prices for you. If not, I guess you'll have to explain your motives for returning and rebuying while praying for a understanding CSR and/or manager.

I'll be upfront about it . . . honesty is the best policy even if you're a devil customer. As I said, I'm willing to just accept the $8 loss and move on.

Ok, there's a ton of discussion about taking the online orders into the store and adjusting/refunding. What about games purchased in store last Sunday? I bought a Paper Mario for $49.99 and was hoping to go in and do the adjustment. I know others were going to do this but I saw no follow-up on it. Anyone? Is this as easy as it is at Target or TRU (where they do return/repurchase)?

Yep, super-easy. I bought Sega Superstars back on 8/20something for $15 ($20 -McD coupon). I brought my receipt to customer service (no need to bring the game back in). they only refund the difference of what you actually paid. Since SS was lowered to $10, and I paid $15, they gave me $5 back. I can understand why they wouldn't take the coupon into consideration, since they don't know what the terms of it was when I bought it.

If you paid $50 for Paper Mario, you should definitely be able to get $40 back. I know SS wasn't in stock when I got the price difference, they just scan your receipt, and check the price in the system for the difference.

Checked out the Best Buy in Antioch, TN today. Nothing of interest. What an awful Best Buy. Conker and Forza were still marked $49.99, Capcom Fighting Evolution was still marked $39.99. I was shocked, Best Buy's usually on top of price drops.. they also had a ton of Star Wars: Clone Wars strategy guides.. for $14.99 each.

edit: wtf, Conker and Forza are also still $49.99 on the bestbuy.com site..

Awesome - it is particularly valuable info that I don't need to bring the games in. I had them bagged and ready to go, but maybe I'll just leave them home (I also got a Rocky for $4.99 that I want to go down to $0.99 :D). Also, I had bought a Crash N Burn for $4.99 a few weeks back to use on the Trade 2 for a preorder deal at GR. I just found the receipt - will see if they can adjust that to $0.99 as well. The ultimate in cheap-assedness... If Best Buy thought I was a "devil customer" before, they are really going to hate me after tomorrow.
Wow - you got Bard's Tale for $5? Nice deal. It was $10 online and at most stores. I never saw one and I'm pretty sure I'll never get my copy of it online. Nice to see some people finding it for $4.99.
i think it was an error.. they had it 4.99 on the tag but it rang up 9.99 and i pointed it out and they gave it to me for 4.99.
Yep. Very easy. A friend of mine bought MechAssault 2 for me on Sunday and was able to get the price match on Monday.
