CAGiversary!
I figured that by the time I got home from work this would have already been posted with the list, but it looks like I should have brought the list home with me. Best Buy is putting a ton of slower-moving games on clearance starting Monday Sept. 12th. Prices ranged from .99-9.99, with most being 4.99, and included games for all systems.

FAQ:

When does the sale being?
The sale begins on MONDAY SEPT 12th when bestbuy opens

Is the sale also online?
no one knows for sure, often bb keeps prices the same, but like i said, this isnt a guarantee. some people are ordering online now and hoping to pricematch later, again, this isnt a guarantee.

Why are people saying they are getting games now, when the sale dosent start until monday?
some people are buying games ahead of time for full price and going back later to get a price adjustment on the games.

BB.com says the games are out of stock in stores around me, is that reliable?
no, its not reliable, it might be right, or it might not, this is from first hand experiance i had today (going to BB then checking avaliability of games i knew where on the shelves when i got home..)

Should i call and ask about the sale?
no, very rarely is calling and asking about a big unadvertised sale a good idea. it can tip off employees that the sale is even going on, also some empolyees might know about it and might have been told to deny it, and some might have no clue at all.

Will the $5 off coupon work on these games? (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58353)
that will be YMMV, the coupon says in black and white, excludes clearance items, so if you get shot down dont cry about it.

Out of all of these games I only found Intellavision Lives for NGC. I talked to the video game person who knows about this website and the list I had, and he said that most of the games listed were sent back a long time ago to make shelf space. He said he only found 3 PS2, 1 NGC, and 2 XBOX games still available on the list.

How odd, I just got a shipping confirmation email for MechAssault 2, but the order status page still lists it as "InProcess." Meanwhile, my order for Tron 2.0 is labeled "Complete," but I have yet to receive a shipping confirmation for it.

If you actually click on each order though, both games have in fact shipped. Damn, BB.com is weird.

I shall still cross my fingers for BloodRayne 2 and Silent Hill 4 (those were in the very first order i placed, and still In Process).

What time did you order Tron 2.0? I ordered it at 4am CDT. Mine is backordered after it said it was in process. I'm just curious if they actually process orders in the correct order or not.
did Best buy pull A lot of the games that was on sale off the webpage. I could of swear They had Nba street vol 2 for gamecube and around 3 or 4 other games that was still in stock... everything is gone now
I just noticed that now myself. Even games like Bard's Tale and MechAssault 2, which were in stock still as of today, come up with that "We're Sorry" page.

I will not be a happy camper if they decide not to honor the price adjustment since according to their record "You may receive the lower price only by calling 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289). We will honor the lower price only if it is displayed on our Web site when you notify us." If it's not on their web site, then technically they could say they don't have to honor it since it's not online. The rest of it can be read here.

Incidentally, of the six games I ordered before midnight, only 1 has said that is has shipped. Everything else is "in process." Grrrrrrr...

We'll see what happens in a few days. In the meantime I have plenty of business to worry about with the :baby:.

I went nutty and managed to snag 22 of the clearance titles from the web site right after midnight on Sunday. Hope they keep my kids busy for a while.

$44 in s&h? you could ship a house for that price
For what it is worth, that is basically what a BB employee told me: that they just didn't have most of the stuff that was on sale.
This could mean that they found it more cost effective to sell the games to a liquidator rather then pay visa fees, etc selling them to customers.

Esp since the "sale" was not advertised (IE never meant to be made public) and many stories involve managers asking "how did you get that list"

Seems to me that BB is trying to cater exclusively to the uninformed customer willing to pay retail for new games and greatest hits, I don't think they want to even see CAGs in their store because the profit margin isn't as juicy as when a real sucker walks in.
$44 in s&h? you could ship a house for that price
That's all I had to pay, though. I have a TON of Best Buy credit after they bought some of my used games back at ridiculous prices. As an example, they bought back my PS2 Super Monkey Ball Deluxe for $31.50 (on a gift card) even though they sold it brand new for $29.99. I did that with quite a few other titles, too. It paid to take advantage of their confusion. And now, it's paying off again....

Wow... it was a day late (well, maybe not, if the CAG-O-Matic updates before their website does), but all the BB drops are listed in the CAG-O-Matic. Kinda worthless since most of the stuff is sold out, but amusing nonetheless.
No luck in Commack or Huntington, NY, I don't think they had a single game on that list, although I really was only targetting Paper Mario and HP. They didnt even have those tags that separate the games for them, let alone copies...
Good luck with anything in Huntington (by Walt Whitman Mall). They rarely update their prices and, if the same guy is running the store as the one I remember from last year, if someone calls for the manager there's a good 90% chance he'll screw you. I wish I could be a bearer of better news but when the manager pretty much shoots down most price matches on the stipulation "because I run this store and I don't have to [price match], regardless of policy", you don't really shop there all that much afterwards.

Well, as far as games are concerned. Huntington still has a rocking movie and anime section and some of their electronics are worth the money. But as far as games are concerned...usually poor stock, not too many decent games, and the better ones tend to be around MSRP until a major clearance comes along like this one...if at all.

If you can, I suggest the one on...I think it's Old Country Road by Roosevelt Field Mall in Carle Place, is it? The only problem is that one is HIGH traffic and a pain to get to. They were probably cleaned out by 10:05 on Monday, all things considered.

[Edit:] I should be more fair to the store, really. Some of their workers in the Game section are really on the ball, same with the Music section. The problem is that, when a sale happens, it's a miracle if games are repriced on time, if at all. It's a failing but, well, that's why we go up to the counter and check. And if all else fails then, well, there's a fine EB in the mall instead.

I bet there's a good chance that that EB is going to be flooded with some very familiar titles from the Best Buy sale, considering...

its time people realize that Best-Buy is a joke and were yankin everyones chain with this clearence sale.....Im sure they could care less about price-adjustments or in stock avaliability of any games....BEST BUY fuckING SUCKS.

Here's another little surprise. Well, it's not really a surprise, as we know how BB backorders go.

Go to the Bestbuy.com website and do a search for either Growlanser or Ys by name.

It brings up the entry for Growlanser, as well as the one for Ys.

If you click on the link to either, you get a nice little message:

Here's the Growlanser link:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6934516&type=product&id=1099382562754
And here's the one for Ys:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7059586&type=product&id=1108124983314

Both produce the same result. If you have either one of those, and it's backordered, you're not getting it. Just like me.

It might also be worth checking any existing orders without Growlanser or Ys and check to see if the item is still in stock on BestBuy.com, until you get a shipping confirmation about the item.

I just got back from my local best buy

they had none of the clearance games on their shelves and the employees didn't even know about a clearance when I asked if there was a clearance bin somewhere

so no soup for me it seems

dont know how they will do it this time but HATE to break it to you but if you havent got your Price adjust yet You might not get it... The item has to be on the webpage cause once its pulled off the webpage they will give the excuss that they cant look it up and dont know what the price is .... They did this to me last year on a game............

all my stuff i ordered monday just went to backordered...

I managed to get Circuity City to do a PM on Silent Hill 4 for ps2, using the Xbox 4.99 Best Buy webpage

It's very YMMV... it helped that the girl couldn't type in Silent Hill 4 correctly into her computer to even make sure it was legit, and just decided it wasn't worth the trouble and to give me the PM.

Didn't I just basically say the same thing in my post? Just teasing. I figured they'd do something fuck like this. Well, if all my stuff isn't in, that's fine by me. That's one more less business transaction I'll have to do at BB. I did call about my price adjust a few days ago and they said it supposedly would be listed once the items shipped. Oh well...

In the meantime I'll soon get to enjoy Wrath Unleashed and Burnout 3 purchased used with the CAG discount. At least that's a guarantee I can always depend on.

That is happening for EVERY game related to the clearance sale... I just tried Godzilla which was actually still in stock as of last night. Not sure what is going on over at Best Buy.com at the moment.

ooo i thought you was asking if they would still give a price adjustment on the games. if you called already then you should be fine , but i know some people said they was going to wait till they got them IN HAND to do the adjustment. i was just saying very good chance they wont now since its off the page

Yeah, it's pretty weird that they're all sold out. I was just trying out a few of the odder titles and most of them display the WE'RE SORRY page. The only exception so far was for Harry Potter for CUB (it is still listed as sold out). I would assume most of our online orders will be cancelled. We'll see...

Yeah, I called them, but I had the word of "Meg" from customer service who said she would make sure on my order that the price would be adjusted when she forwarded it to the appropriate department. We'll see...

If they won't price adjust over the phone because a particular game is no longer on the site, I wonder if this would work:

Return them to a Best Buy B&M and then re-buy them on the spot. That's the only thing that I think could work otherwise. If going that route, I would explain to the CSR what you're doing first before they go through the motions. While we may be "Devil Customers", it's always better to act like angels and be as friendly as you can to the CSRs so things go more smoothly.

Assuming they let you buy them right on the spot, since BB normally won't let you rebuy something like that, since they may or may not have received it in inventory with the return. Actually, they do, when it's an regular store purchase, though with a BB.com shipped order, they might need to receive it in inventory or some such other bullshit.

Right know, anything would be possible with these cockknockers.
couldnt they say they cant resell them to you since they dont have the UPC anymore in their system....
The item being gone from BB.com isn't the same as the item being yanked from their system. Penny guides aren't on BB.com, though they're in-store. They're yanking the items from the website, though the items still exist in the computer. SKU's don't get purged that often, in case you need to do a return numerous days after the purchase. Website entries, that's easy to yank.

All six of the items I ordered on Sunday are coming up with the same issue.

Ys
Growlanser
Tak 2 (Xbox)
Godzilla: STE
Astro Boy (GBA)
Incredibles (Xbox)

As 6 out of 6 in my book is normally a pattern, I'd be safe to say that if you get a BO notification on any items you have, do not expect to see them. Ever.

Interesting that the only game I ordered that is listing a tracking number is Incredibles and I know that I ordered my games after you. I think I placed my order around 12:20am on Sunday before the prices changed. That's just crappy service if they're filling out orders backwards and filling requests for people who ordered games later before you/us. :bs:

Well if it were my store I would not let you buy it back. I would put it back behind the counter and let employees get first dibs. That's just me.

Sounds like they found a way to avoid having people order the games in advance and try to price adjust. I think it's funny and I think your screwed.

Didn't the employees get first dibs like... two days ago?

Sure but I know that target and most other companies do not let you do this. They put it in back and either buy it themselves or put it out on the shelf much later after you leave.
I was able to find 2 copies of Otogi 2.

Is anyone interested in trading Ys for one of them?
Onikage, I've always meant to ask you if your ava is David Bowie. If it's not, it sure as hell looks like him.
Isnt it time to put this thread to rest? Should this be locked up now?
No. People are still finding stuff, people think that some games might go back online, and people are trying to find other people to deal with.

You think it's funny that fellow CAGers may get screwed? :shame: I think it's just bad business on BB's part. We were just following what your company's policy is. I think this will just prove to CAGers to stay clear of BB for decent deals, especially the online ones.

In the meantime I didn't really get screwed since they haven't filled out 6 of my 7 orders and I used a gift card for part of the order. If I only have to pay for one game and they won't give me a discount, it's not a big deal. I do have to say if BB.com ran out of stock and still took orders all day, they're a really sh!tty site.

I'm surprised everyone else is having bad luck at their Best Buy's.

Manchester CT and Holyoke CT had tons of stuff...none of the really good stuff like Paper Mario or FF 1 and 2, but like 5 copies each of Future Tactics and Pinball, lots of $9.99 games, don't remember many of them--none really interested me. I got there right at opening and 1.5 hours after opening, the guy in the second store said I was his 3rd customer with a list.

While I generally agree with the 'quit taking orders when you're out' think, BB isn't the only company or industry to do it. I'm still waiting on my memory stick from Buy.com [which is now On Order], and the airlines 'overbook' all the time. I'm not condoning the practice, I think it's pretty crappy, but BB is hardly alone.
