CAGiversary!
I figured that by the time I got home from work this would have already been posted with the list, but it looks like I should have brought the list home with me. Best Buy is putting a ton of slower-moving games on clearance starting Monday Sept. 12th. Prices ranged from .99-9.99, with most being 4.99, and included games for all systems.

FAQ:

When does the sale being?
The sale begins on MONDAY SEPT 12th when bestbuy opens

Is the sale also online?
no one knows for sure, often bb keeps prices the same, but like i said, this isnt a guarantee. some people are ordering online now and hoping to pricematch later, again, this isnt a guarantee.

Why are people saying they are getting games now, when the sale dosent start until monday?
some people are buying games ahead of time for full price and going back later to get a price adjustment on the games.

BB.com says the games are out of stock in stores around me, is that reliable?
no, its not reliable, it might be right, or it might not, this is from first hand experiance i had today (going to BB then checking avaliability of games i knew where on the shelves when i got home..)

Should i call and ask about the sale?
no, very rarely is calling and asking about a big unadvertised sale a good idea. it can tip off employees that the sale is even going on, also some empolyees might know about it and might have been told to deny it, and some might have no clue at all.

Will the $5 off coupon work on these games? (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58353)
that will be YMMV, the coupon says in black and white, excludes clearance items, so if you get shot down dont cry about it.

good news for people who had the null-null shipping date or ordered an item once sold out, I ordered Ys after it had gone sold out on the webpage and my order changed from null-null to shipped yesterday. although my growlanser has not shipped yet...
All that means is that you checked the wrong one. The stand alone Eye Toy in the slightly blue packaging is not part of this sale.
I thought I had read someone pointing out that the blue-colored package Eye Toy was on sale but not the yellow/orange one? I had that in the back of my mind as I had them price-checked at the register yesterday.

I agree that it seems there are quite a few people here who are having a hard time grasping the (admittedly semantitical) difference between a sale and a price drop. "Unadvertised sale" sounds like an oxymoron. Kinda. I would imagine that people would have been even more furious if Best Buy had been foolish enough to put this in a weekly flyer with the piddling quantities they had available.

Even in Chicago, over the span of two whole days, I was able to find just one title I really wanted, but enough fodder $1 + $5 (with glorious McD coupon) titles to use at EB's trade-in deal to make it worthwhile. For that, I thank the OPs of the initial threads, and the CAG community at large.

Man, taking a stance that sounds like I'm defending a corporation like Best Buy, even though I'm really not, makes me feel like a dirty libertarian. I need to bathe.

what the hell is null-null :)

Managed to pickup LOTR: Third Age. At $4.99, couldn't resist even if it's a mediocre game based on couple of reviews. Was really hoping to find Paper Mario 2 and Zookeeper, but hit three Best Buys and nothing.
I ordered a game from EBGames months ago... still waiting. Kinda sucks because its on my Edge card and I'm not sure if I should keep the credit on there or not.

But yeah, it happens a lot, but that's still too much. If inventory is automated there should be no doubt as to whether or not it is in stock...
I wish I could answer this better, since I am in the field of supply chain/manufacturing/retail, but I've only been at it for about 2 months, and our mid-sized business hasn't yet implemented POS.

I can only assume that with a chain as large as Best Buy, even with inventory divided up into smaller chunks like districts, there are a lot of factors that would prevent a true real-time inventory system from being feasible. Things like: shrink, returns, human error, and physical limitations on the software+hardware maintaining the inventory. But like I caveated, I'm a greenhorn. I'm sure others could explain it better.

Still, these days, if you have a cell phone, maybe a PDA, and some patience, you can manage. Be pleasant to the blueshirt who will invariably ask you if you need help, have them look it up in their district's inventory, and then tear ass to whichever store looks promising while calling to confirm en route.
Anyone else pick up the Godzilla game?
I snatched a copy of it, and it's on the way. Lord knows when it'll arrive.

You ordered it Sunday night or Monday and it's showing that it's shipped? WTF?

My order was done on Sunday early afternoon for the four that shipped for me and Growlanser + Ys, and it hasn't shipped. fuck you, Best Buy. You don't have a fucking clue on how to run an online operation.

The only thing I don't like is that Best Buy pulled every webpage available from the sale... you can still search for them, find the webpage, and then see a WE'RE SORRY message.

I wonder if that many people were calling to get price adjustments, so Best Buy just decided to be smooth and pull all the webpages so they have an easy out to stop honoring price adjust's?

I mean, they even did it to games that were in stock, like Godzilla and Goldeneye: Rogue Agent. Pretty low of them, if you ask me.

Does anyone have a Godzilla screen cap? Wanted to go PM it, but it's too late now I guess.

Once items are out of stock, it is pretty much common practice on Best Buy's website to give you the "We're Sorry" page. It's been like that for years and is nothing new to this sale.

Except they did it for all of the sale games, even ones that were still in stock when they did this, like Goldeneye: Rogue Agent. Not sure why they would want to pull the pages for games still in stock.

Sadly I knew this about Goldeneye: RA because I was contemplating getting it all weekend... I figured I had no rush because it was still in stock, same with Godzilla =/

Anyone else get this when they click on their tracking link?

Two or three of my shipped games just give me that message when I click the tracking link. Is this normal for items that have just recently been shipped out?

BloodRayne 2 and Silent Hill 4 are the only ones that have yet to ship... STILL InProcess... I really hope I get a confirmation either way soon. If they are gonna be backordered, I want to know in time for EB's b2g1 sale later this week.

In my experience, with different companies, yes.

There must have been a LOT of orders at full price. And it will save them money if they don't have to give those customers a discount.

The only problem for them is that I will return all the games to the store. fuck them if they want to play it this way. I'm out shipping but my opinion of them has declined.

So what you say? . . . In the past 5 years I bought a stove and fridge, an HDTV, DVD player, . . . I bet I've spent $5000 there. Do they really want to lose my patronage???

We are being "devil" customers but nitpicking over their price matching policy will not help. Had we not ordered the games on Sun. they would have sold at the discount on Mon.

So I've been really sick for days, haven't been able to go out, I might be able to tomorrow, think even if my BB had stuff, by now it's worthless?

That will answer all those questions. Bestbuy is a HORRIBLE store, they sold me a broken TV in the box. They also wouldn't take it back an hour later with the receipt, saying I broke it on purpose, or the manufacturer broke it, not them of course. Bottom line, I got refurbished TV for the price of brand new. The manufacturer paid to have it fixed through their warranty.

So get this - one of my in-store pickup items (Crash N Burn for Xbox for $0.99) was not available at the store. I was sent an email about this Monday morning. OK, no big deal - saves me the trip to that particular store.

Then today I get an email apologizing for the item not being available and an offer of FREE ground shipping if I call Best Buy. So I called and they switched it to delivery - for free. Sweet... Of course I didn't get a similiar notice about the other order that wasn't available (Tak 2 for GC) since I think that is long out of stock.

Amen! Preach it! My other six items have yet to have changed status from "in process" and as of yet I haven't gotten a backorder email from them. No big deal since if they never come in, it's money I've saved and I've already got tons of games piling up that I haven't gotten to. I'm sure some of the games I wanted like Midway Arcade 2 and Bard's Tale will drop down in price to around $10 sooner or later. In fact, Bard's Tale is $11.90 at GoGamer.com already and with shipping is roughly the same price I would have paid online at BB.com.

Yeah, that was a good deal! I was too busy with a newborn :baby: to go out shopping though. Maybe they'll be something for Black Friday. I'm sure prices will also go down once the Xbox360 is out.

That's SOP for a BB.com in-store pickup order. If their system lets you make the order and complete it, and they simply can't find it, they have to give you free ground shipping to make up for it.

I've never had an issue with it before, though I know other CAGs have and that's what they reported.

Ok... got my package today. Does Best Buy not include the bill in their packages?

I got 2nd day air for Growlanser and Ys, and it just came in a tiny little bubble mailer, with a packing list, and both games have price tags that say 0.00 on them. Kind of a weird way for a site to operate.

Shit, the way UPS threw it on the doorstep, I'm surprised the games didn't break... with BB's expensive ass 2nd day shipping, I figured they'd at least pack them a bit better... the bubble mailer was strained as well since they jammed two games inside of it.

Picked up the following in store, all for Xbox:

what sucks about this is by the time you get this email everything is out of stock. yes they do offer Free ground shipping but when you call they will tell you the game is out of stock and there is nothing they can do for you

every game i got from them last nov-dec when they did this said 0.00 on the price tag. I was told it says it cause they are discountined games

Called the 888-BEST-BUY number as instructed in the email. Only on hold about 5 minutes - not too bad to get a $0.99 game shipped free :D. I also got a notice that my Harry Potter Azkaban for GC shipped - that was the only game I was able to order online early Monday AM (right after their system started working again).

I wish they'd make up for the Tak 2 not being available in store but I guess that has been out since mid-Monday on the site.

Edit - Slidecage, apparently Crash N Burn is still available - though it shows a "We're sorry" on the web page. Of course, I guess I could still get a backorder notice on this, though the rep did say she checked stock before changing my order to delivery. We'll see how reliable that is soon enough :D.

It was a combination of the Maplewood and Roseville Best Buys in Minnesota. I'm pretty sure there is more at some of the other stores, but I don't feel like driving to any of them. At least stuff was still showing up as in stock before they went and removed all the games from the website. I usually do Maplewood, Roseville, Inver Grove Heights, Burnsville, Richfield and Edina (and used to do Woodbury but I haven't looked into where that one moved to yet).

You should have called your credit card company and told them to deny payment.

Wow, so how many people are actually finding games that they REALLY wanted? Or is everyone kinda just getting what they feel could entertain them for a little while for cheap?

THIS IS SUCH BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I weas lucky enough to order 6 games online and it appears Castle Wolfenstein is on back order...so guess what none of my games will ship until that game is there. Total BS I paid $12.00 for ground shipping I want my other games shipped now I called and demanded to speak to a supervisor and I got hung up on.

What lousy CS. I was hoping to play my $10 Bard's Tale this weekend.

Picked up a 4.99 RE: Outbreak today with coupon of course... and damn if I wasnt carded by the "girl" at the register... I am 31 BTW... not that it totally irked me, it was just that she was no more than 20... I dont look 16, at least not with facial hair...

It was my understanding that the items would ship separately. Is this incorrect? Only one of my games, Incredibles, has shipped. The others are still "in process."

I know it's frustrating, but I would recommend being as polite as possible on the phone with customer service. Miracles sometimes happen when you're polite. Sometimes.

At the Best Buy near me small 'C's appeared on the price labels for multiple games. All the games that went on sale this week had 'C's that were highlighted in red. However, I noticed other games that were highlighted in Orange, Yellow, and Green. Could there be a progressive clearance with new games each week? Other games marked with 'C's included Pikmin 2, Metroid Prime 2, and Pshyconauts. Here's Hoping.

I am pretty sure that backordered items won't hold up the rest of the order. I had an order with 3 items in it - two items are still InProcess. But the other one has shipped already. So it seems they will divide an order into individual shipments if necessary. I guess that's a small benefit of charging us separate shipping on each item.

They ship your order without completing them all. I have 2 shipped, 1 in process, and 1 backordered on my order.

On my way to work today, I picked up Freekstyle for the PS2. Was $4.99 - which meant it was FREE after the McD coupon. That's the only game I found on the cheap.
Wow, so how many people are actually finding games that they REALLY wanted? Or is everyone kinda just getting what they feel could entertain them for a little while for cheap?
My copy of Mr. Driller for the Nintendo DS shipped. I have waiting for a price drop at least to $20. $10 is even better.

Well.. this is what I got..don't know if its worth anything.

$4.99 Tiger Woods 2004
$4.99 James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire
0.82 tax
-5.00
--------
5.80 for these two games..

Went to another one and got this:

9.99 SRS
4.99 Tiger Woods 2004
+tax
-5.00
------
10.xx

Not sure if I got a good deal or not.. Might return if there is no trade-in value or Ebay worth.. Any suggestions ?

Only 3 things at Charlotte, NC's BB --

Godzilla Final Wars (which I picked up)
Colin McRay Racing (still there)
and some other lame game which I passed on.

They had them grouped under their own tag of 9.99 Endcap Games or something.

I couldn't find any PS2 or GC games on the list unfortunately.
Huh, so people are actually getting Growlanser or Ys shipped? Did anyone have back order status but then have it changed to shipped, or no?
My Y's shipped out the other day and the day before FF:Origins was on backorder and suddenly changed to shipped out. So, being in backorder doesn't always spell DOOM. ;)

Why didn't you use a $5 coupon for each game and save another $10?
i got a few printed off but i dont think any of them (besides 1) will work since all of them says SOLD OUT... I do have a glowlancer but its more of a Paint and paste thing
Really? Cause if I could get a Growlanser or Paper Mario or Final Fantasy Origins scan, I would cry and cry and cry out of sheer joy.
