what's the tv calibration service?
read your question backwards and you'll find the answer.

p.s. it's a service where they calibrate your TV. :) there is a limited amount of uses per year or something like that in the terms. they come out to your house and do it for free

I'm premier silver as well, something screwy is going on... didn't do any surveys and probably barely hit $500 all year. Also, it looks like my points didn't expire like they are supposed to.

^ I just looked and it shows me as Premier Silver through 2014, even though I only spent around $1200 last year (I have a Reward Zone credit card so that includes non Best Buy purchases). I hope it's not a glitch since I was expecting to lose my Premier Silver at the end of the month.

Max Payne 3 for $17.99 for PS3 and 360. I was expecting it to be $9.99 before the page updated to show the deal of the day price

Get the pre-owned versions if your interested. Stack it with the B2G1 free and 10% unlocked which is about $11 per game.

Example:
Max Payne 3 used $17.99
Resident Evil 6 used $17.99
(random free $17.99 game)
The negativity around Windows 8 baffles me. It's super simple to use, is fast, and rarely has issues like crashing (mine has yet to crash, programs have crashed and stopped loading after closing but not the UI as a whole). Yes it's start screen is "built for a touch screen" so what? It still works well and guess what? Even without a mod you can still have the old desktop running with a simple click (just not the old start menu without a mod). On the new start menu though all you have to do is start typing and BAM brings up a list of stuff, much easier than clicking through the old start menu IMO.
I know exactly what you mean. I currently work CS, and people always return Windows 8 laptops because they "suck". Why does it suck? It is so different from what you're used to? Not really. Windows 7 was the pinnacle for me, but after using Windows 8 on my Asus Zenbook Prime day in and day out, I absolutely love it! It's so much faster, and as you mentioned it's easier to search for things as well. When I bought my Ultrabook in October, it took roughly 21 seconds to boot into Windows 7. After I installed Windows 8 and did all of the driver updates and everything else, it boots within 9 seconds. I use it for college every day, and it gets the job done. To go off on your touch screen point, it was built to feel like that. It would be cool to have that feature on my Ultrabook, but I would have to clean the screen every day because I have an OCD towards that type of thing. I could go on and on about how much I love Windows 8, and I can't wait until I put it on my new rig whenever I get around to getting the parts.

People don't like Windows 8 because it was supposed to be this big deal and what we get is a poorly done OS. Why is it poorly done? Because the touch interface got stuck on a laptop and the desktop interface got made worse. Yeah, dragging your app down the screen to close it is soooo much simpler than clicking a button to close it. That's annoying is what it is, and people basically spent money to be annoyed and now they're agitated. Or my Windows 8 Skype app doesn't support touchpad dialing. I have to click every number with the mouse. So I have to get the desktop version of Skype. Why do I have 2 versions of Skype on my computer now? The integration is terrible, it's awful, it wasn't thought out. Most people are leaving their PC in desktop mode and never going into the tiled interface after the first week of using the OS. And the desktop interface is worse than Windows 7.

It does boot fast, can't complain there. It is stable, can't complain there either. It has sped up the way the OS moves data, so copying and moving files is a lot faster than Windows 7. But really, most of that stuff I can live with, so Windows 7 took 10 extra seconds to boot, big deal. Windows 7 was also stable... so was XP. I haven't had a real problem with stability since Windows 95/98.

Sorry man but I did the cheapie windows 8 upgrade from my windows 7 machine and windows 8 fucking SUCKED. The thing crashed ALL the time and NONE of my web browsers worked right. Maybe a clean install would have been better but the only reason I got it was because it was cheap to upgrade. I called MS and demanded a refund. They did a "return" of my electronic purchase. I won't be using windows 8 again. It was worse than windows ME.

On topic, good price for max Payne 3. I would buy it if I didn't have a backlog but I'll wait for $10 since I have other games to play. It should be dirt cheap this holiday with the new consoles coming out. In fact, everything should be.
mac always wins baybee
Macs all cost more than I wanted to spend when I bought my laptop. It was an unplanned purchase when my last one died of basically a melted graphics chip. I had a budget of $500 to replace it, and I couldn't get a Mac for less than double that. Similarly speced, about $1300. I don't doubt that Macs are nice, but I couldn't afford it at that juncture of all junctures.

I also bought an iMac in 04 and that really put me off from buying another Mac. I bought it at the wrong time and I think that was part of the problem, it was one of the last models with the IBM processors. The hardware didn't seem that great. The keyboard just invited dirt and debris, the mouse had one button and the superdrive stopped working. At least the resale value was decent. I paid $1100 or so for it, and sold the machine itself with no KB and a broken superdrive about 4 years later for $450 or $480. There was also a problem of finding the software I needed to do what I needed to do, but I do understand that software is no longer the issue, Macs have plenty software nowadays.

Anyway, I'd consider a Mac again when the price drops or I just feel like blowing an extra grand. Seriously doubt either of those things is going to happen, though.

If you're OK with used, MP3 can be had from Gamefly for $14.99+tax. I'm personally waiting for it to hit $9.99 somewhere.

EDIT: I ended up ordering MP3 :ps3: as well as Kinect Sports and Kinect Star Wars for my new Kinect. Came out to about $11.xx per game with the B2G1 free, I figured that was close enough to $10. They have a few pretty good $17.99 games to match MP3 with in the B2G1, what I really wanted was Alice: Madness Returns but it was unavailable for both shipping and pick-up.

Thanks htz for reminding me to combine this deal with the B2G1.

Think about what you're doing when you click the X to close. You're dragging your mouse to a very small, specific spot at the top of the screen then back down to where you need it. Now all you need to do is a quick random flick up to anywhere on the top and pull down...which you'd be doing anyway when you go back to what you're doing. Best of all though, you don't HAVE TO do that unless you're using the Win8 specific Apps, most of which are clearly built for a touchscreen/laptop/tablet anyway.

And the desktop interface is worse than Windows 7

It's the exact same except for the start menu being gone...you can even pin stuff to the task bar.

Most people are leaving their PC in desktop mode and never going into the tiled interface after the first week of using the OS.

I barely use it either but the start screen in general is great IMO. And the "tiled interface" is the START MENU haha it's not meant to be your desktop on your desktop pc...that's the whole point.

Why do I have 2 versions of Skype on my computer now? The integration is terrible, it's awful, it wasn't thought out.

Why do you? I'm confused, if one doesn't work right don't use it and uninstall it... ? ?

Look I'm not saying it's perfect but it's far from the mess people make it out to be. Nearly everything people complain about has solutions built right into the OS. And some things people complain about (like flicking to close) makes no sense at all when you think about it. Thing that boggles my mind THE MOST is how so many people complain about Windows never innovating and then when it does they just complain because it's too different.

I picked up windows 8 pretty fast. I only watched a review of surface RT once on youtube, and when I bought a win 8 tablet, I just knew how to navigate around and picked up the touch screen shortcuts quickly. I absolutely love windows 8.

Also if you're upgrading, make sure your comp is compatible with windows 8.

I have a computer from 2003. I upgraded it with windows 7, and the CPU usage is high, even when idle. Freezes a lot too. Porn sites? Forget it, too many ads and flash banners.

I liked the campaign a whole lot in MP3. The story was pretty cool and I thought the graphics were quite nice. I played a little bit of the multiplayer, but wasn't impressed. It was good for a bit, but I didn't feel like there was much staying power.

At this price I would recommend this game for the single player alone.

Macs are overrated; I get they're built well and better tuned, but the premium for those alleged benefits are overpriced. Face it, a lot of the "Macs are awesome" comments come from mainstream users who think Macs are "cool" solely because they are fashionable or hip. Very few Mac owners know the first thing that sets their machines apart from Windows. I'm not willing to pay a hefty premium for that; it's frankly silly.

As for Windows 8, from my brief experiences with it (I'm in the market for a new laptop and am shopping around), I think your love or hate of it largely hinges on whether you have a touchscreen. To buy Windows 8 without a touchscreen is to lose so much of the "revolutionary" look and feel. Personally, I want the touchscreen for project related work (I'm looking to start up my pet project graphic novel), but I could immediately see how much I'd dislike Windows 8 using a mouse; it just seemed to create one more needless interface that I had to either use or click out of for my familiar desktop.

Lastly, back on Max Payne 3 -- at this point, I'm just waiting for the GOTY edition.
Just to add a comment, why the hell did windows 8 come out so soon after the much praised and enjoyed windows 7? It could've been okay to sit on their laurels for a few years and let people enjoy it. If it was just to promote their tablets and smartphones then they should've branded it something separate than for desktops.

Just watch someone over 35 try to use it at a best buy and it's almost like a prank they're pulling on people.
they need to brag about having a single OS for everything computing (true or not) onto one platform for everything computing to gain market share and consolidate 3rd party support ASAP.

That is where the real money is, screw the users.

Have they released any single player DLC for MP3?
I bought the SE for some stupid reason from gamestop from $20 and still didn't open it, yet I came into this thread to check out the deal on MP3. Ugh.
I got the standard from Kmart for $9, still havent touched it (playing uncharted 2 atm that came with the ps3)

For some reason I thought Max Payne 3 was harder than I expected, there were two or three areas which took me three tries before the game felt pity for me and gave me an extra painkiller to begin with :(

I thought the same thing. Beat the first two games on my PS2 when they came out no problem. This was definitely the hardest game of the series I thought.

I also had a little difficulty at a few points, and also got pity drugs.

This was honestly my first extended foray into the series.

I wasn't a fan of MP3. It wasn't a bad game if I were to judge it as a critic, but I had very little fun playing it. Some very annoying gameplay mechanics in it too.

Like what?

I can see being annoyed at the lengthy cut scenes if you have add but I don't remember any annoying gameplay mechanics.

Like the thing in the game where it is almost like Second Wind from Borderlands 2, where if you have painkillers and "die" you start to fall down in slow motion and have a chance to kill a target and get revived. I can't tell you how many times this happened, but my aimer was stuck in some weird position, and you can't really move when you are in this position, so I basically had no choice but to let myself die.

This happened to me 20+ times in the game easily.

Yeah... That's because you are too far gone to rescue yourself with that move.

I interpreted that as part of the game. Not a glitch or oversight.

Not in those instances. There are plenty of times where I saved myself, but the control in that situation is very limited. You can't really move your character. So if your aimer is stuck in a weird spot and is say aimed at the ground, then you are screwed. You can't move yourself to readjust it and kill a target for you to be brought back.

Right. In those instances, you're too far "dead" to save yourself. I know exactly what you're talking about.

I think I'm explaining myself poorly, because if my aimer was pointed at an enemy, I would have been able to save myself. It's just that my aimer was stuck in a weird position and I have nothing to shoot at.

It's been a while since I played the game, so I'm a little foggy on the specifics. But I know that sometimes I would be stuck inches away from the enemy and I keep firing at them and am just a little off. If I would have been able to shoot them though, I would have been brought back. Others, it would be way off and I am not even close to an enemy. I think it depends on the position you are in when you take that last blow.

I thought the game was amazing. I would have got the season pass dlc but i got first dlc free with preorder and they gave 3rd dlc free so i thought nope.

My wife watched me play the whole way through and it was awesome. The difficulty was hotness also. I never played NYM but my first playthrough was on hard, and Hardcore/Oldschool were super tough also. My girl always asks why i do the hardest difficulty first, especially during those parts when you just die over n over. Whoever played this probly agrees the hardest part was when you are on that boat and going into panama canal and you have to run around the outside of boat and then through middle and up stairs. that took me like 20 times on hardcore, lol, i couldn't imagine on nym hardcore. I'm in top 5% for Hardcore, but NYM Hardcore is 1%.

I thought the best part was the airport lobby shootout at the end. wow that was amazing. \ such a great song too!
I also loved the cutscenes and the way they went straight into gameplay. the best example was when you are in the office building and you are getting attacked and it goes from cutscene, he kicks through the door, and instant gameplay. damn beautiful.

A fresh install is always the better way to go man unless you want to preserve your old files etc. I initially choose the upgrade option, and it was Ok at first. I then created the recovery drive, and did a fresh install. Simply flawless. The only issue I ran into was that my Bluetooth Driver doesn't work in W8. I looked into the issue and I was supposed to uninstall the driver while I had W7 on there...Not a big deal since I don't have any Bluetooth enabled devices that I want to sync to my laptop. I tried W8 on another HP Ultrabook that I was going to give to my mother and sister as a birthday present. It performed decently, but it was somewhat slow because it didn't have an SSD in it so I returned it the next day. MS finally gave me the refund for that copy a few days ago or so.

I couldn't get into MP3 either. My biggest issue was that it played way too much like a Rockstar game. To me it felt like a Max Payne GTAIV mod. Running around while shooting was never a strong point of GTA games yet that's this whole game. Everything just felt "off" to me.

Well, this is my third time buying MP3 lol...first time on Xbox and never got past first level, second for super cheap when I switched to PS3, but a 100% TIV for it got the better of me, and now this last time for $12.99 used (my store just so happened to sell their last new copy before I got there pssht..) after RZ cert.

Definitely going to beat it through this time. I don't even think I'm that far in ("football" stadium I believe).

Anyways, from what I've played, I'm loving the game. Very reminiscent of Man on Fire, which just so happens to be in my top 5 movies, so yea, maybe I'm biased haha.
I bought the SE for some stupid reason from gamestop from $20 and still didn't open it, yet I came into this thread to check out the deal on MP3. Ugh.
That's a better deal than this, since it has the SE extras.
It has HD 4,000 graphics which are ok. You really want a laptop with a dedicated GPU. The only problem with them is that they tend to get pricey.
Thank you, man. These two laptops are within my budget around $550. Which one should I go for it? Dotd one or the lenovo G580? If you were me, which one will you choose?

you might want to check your local bestbuy store clearance from the official bestbuy website, if you know how to navigate through their website. i have seen some laptop with similar specs , or better for around $400-500. the only issue with intel hd graphics is don't count on it to run graphics intense pc games smoothly. but light work like surfing the web, typing, and watching videos should be fine
