Best Buy drops CheapAssGamer from its affiliate program = hypocrASSy

Cheapy sounds like BB affiliate people are about as much help as BB store employees.

Oh well If I had to pick one place to sacrifice it would be them. That store gives me nothing but attitude. Between "service plan attacks", Pack-Mule free shipping and employees rolling thier eyes at the sight of a coupon I can't stand that place. More of my friends are starting to think the same way.

I'll go to BB for a super deal that they make no money on but anything else will be purchased at other retailers.

Osh Kosh B'iotch]You know said:
I had the same thought. There's alot of that going around. It's not just limited to BB. Unfortunately, there is no real way to prove that is the cause.

What scandal? Do you mean things like the 5 dollar GH,Platniums, that once out in the open get hit up by a bunch of people some ordering like 50 copies? Or is this about something dirty they did?, besides sucking?
The onewingedangel-Target raincheck abuse comes to mind. Anyone have a link?

Hate to say it, but this is more of an internal affairs type of thing, I'm sorry you're having a problem with your affiliate program, but it doesn't belong on the front page taking up the ENTIRE PAGE, defeated the WHOLE PURPOSE of this website.

Make it ONE small paragraph with a "link to the full story" and let the rest of us enjoy this site, like any other professional webmaster would do when having issues with a company.
WTF is this? If you were sitting in the next cube over I would bust you in the grill with a sock full of quarters.
Shoulda read a little further down JM. He retracted his statement as it was user error rather than blatant BestBuy flaming on Cheapy's part.

the only thing that I like about BB is that right after christmas you can take whatever un-opened game you have to them for store credit. I did this whenever Sears had all of the ps2 games for 9.98 last January I bought 20 of these at $200.00 and took them to different Best buy's at an average of 29.99 each, claiming I got them as presents. I got a Ps2, about 10 games and controllers, sound system, and a bunch of dvd's. For a total of about $600.00. Needless to say I screwed them over hardcore and now I don't feel bad about it.

CheapyD - I am sorry that they have done that. I would not have a problem if someone was offended, but yet to have worse things that they sell blows me away. Makes no sense. I am sorry for the loss of revenue.

On the flip side - I "personally" have never bought anything from BB online. I did get the 10% off because of the $5 Greatest Hits Games, but that worked out well for me. My dryer broke, so I saved over $30 with it. woohoo.

As to Best Buy - I will start another thread. Here goes: http://cheapassgamer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=84172#84172
The store employees have been superb to me. And so has the customer service whenever I have called in. (It may be a short thread.)

Final Words - Do what is best for you. All of us are cheap anyway, so we will stick with whatever your name is. :)

Take Care,
Matthew
Cheapy, is it possible you can register under the afflite programs under a different name?
Good question! You'd think that would be possible. I've heard a few others mention a redirection URL something or other. Maybe you could register under that? (Clearly I am pretending to know a smidgen about webstuff but I really don't. Just trying to help...)

Well, along with everyone else here I think it sucks. I also don't think the "ass" should be dropped, especially considering the other things they are already selling with "ass" in the title ... some of which are downright pornographic. ](*,)

While I don't think the CAG name should change, if Cheapy decides that it's the best way ... well then, I'll stand behind him whatever he decides. *sings Stand By Your Man* :)

Actually he didn't retract anything, and his apology was seriously lacking. I am glad he got flamed for making a dumb ass complaint.

Nice article CheapyD, I agree with 100%.

Best Buy......ack, it ain't worth wasting my time on, plain and simple: They Suck...............

I think you need to go home and rethink your life. /\

Ripping off BestBuy could land you in jail, boycotting them would hurt them more. I agree with Defender, if we continue to post BB deals, then the only result is that they don't have to send a check to Cheapy anymore. They win, we all lose. I don't like to deal with assholes and I don't have to, so I guess I'm in the boycott line.

Our only strength as cheap asses is in our numbers. We must show Best Buy that we are disappointed in their decision. We must also show them exactly how many of their customers they have disappointed and the impact of that on their sales. Large corporations speak only the language of currency. I suggest a letter writing campaign. As the Best Buy corporate office sees the letters rolling in and the number of customers that CAG provides, they will see the dollars rolling out. There are no guarantees, but I think this is our best chance of forcing them to review this. Feel free to use this letter. If you write your own letter, try to make it very professional. If we come off sounding like a bunch of lunatics, BB will wonder how much they are really losing.

Dear Sirs:

I am very disappointed in your decision to discontinue support of CheapAssGamer.com. I am a loyal supporter of the site, and I look forward to visiting it daily for information about great offers from retailers such as Best Buy. However, without crucial funding provided by your affiliate program, it may be difficult for CheapAssGamer.com to survive. The site makes the best deals on your site and in your stores easier to find. I am more likely to buy from a retailer whose deals are listed because they are more accessible to me. With this in mind, I hope that you would reconsider your decision.

Sincerely,

What do you guys think about the idea of a letter writing campaign?

There's one problem with that letter. I'm not a "loyal" supporter of their site - I'd wager most of us aren't. I never have been loyal to them and now I definitely never will be.

I never like Best Buy. I mostly shopped at Circuit City until I heard about the $5 off from the gamer gift card. Since the BB in my area stopped having them and employees there told me it is discontinued, I won't be shopping there for games unless I can't find them else where.

I really don't have problem Bestbuy stopping its affiliation with CAG. It's business and if they don't think they are not making money from the relationship, they can end it... but it's other things that bothers me...

Like the reason they gave CheapyD, they didn't like the name? Where does that come from?

I stopped buying from BestBuy long ago, when they wouldn't fulfill their orders for sale items. What a bunch of asses, LOL.

BTW, Fun fact: If you search for "ass" at BestBuy, the Shrek soundtrack shows up on the 7th or 8th page, hehe.

Hey Cheapy I live about 10 minutes from their corporate headquarters. You want me to head in there with a few friends and some baseball bats 2x4s or whatever?

We could all buy a GBA SP, drop them in the toilet, get a replacement, and drop it in the toilet.

No questions asked on water damage.

For $100 you could clear out their entire stock!
Like the reason they gave CheapyD, they didn't like the name? Where does that come from?
As stated in the article, this was the reason given to me by the Best Buy
Affiliate Program Manager during a phone call with her.
Hey Cheapy I live about 10 minutes from their corporate headquarters. You want me to head in there with a few friends and some baseball bats 2x4s or whatever?
No, but a picture of you guys out front with a CheapAssGamer sign would be hilarious.

It's obvious.

BestBuy was losing too much money to this website... so they found a lame excuse to stop paying. Simple as that.

Sounds like Bestbuy's being really immature about the whole situation. At first they say that they don't like the name "Cheapassgamer" because of the "ass", yet they have stockloads of Items such as pornographic movies right on their site, totally contradicting that fact. Talk about hypocracy.

But what really goggles me on this whole thing is that they don't pick up Cheapy's phone calls. What, are they not mature enough to handle the situation and pick up the phone? That's pathetic. The manager sounded like she was going to try to change it and then just blew you off. Just to prove that BestBuy's customer service really sucks.

I hope that all their affiliates drop their asses, because ignoring Cheapy like that infuriates me. They're mature adults, they can't handle the word ass but yet can sell items in their stock containing much then just the word "ass"? Bull. Well, maybe just to get them to shut up, you should consider a re-direct link for the affiliates. Even to be redirected to cheapassgamer.com would be a little better if you had a more "appropriate" term for the affiliate links.

Regardless of what you decide, and it sounds like you're handling the situation well but they're not, us cheap asses are completely behind you all the way.

I still vote that we should chuck a hot cup of mule piss into someones eyes.

And if that wasn't brought up to be voted on, it should be.

and we'd also have to find a mule.

and we'd need a name of someone at the front office that wronged us.

Ill gladly boycott them.

Unless a good deal pops up, then Ill order. But then it'll probebly be put on backorder forever, and Ill never get anything, so it'll be like Im still boycotting.

Sorry CheapyD, I know you put alot into the site the least BB could do is help you out with all the suport you've given them. This whole ass deal is just silly and dumb. I'll support any decision you make on this matter.

Hey CheapyD, how about expanding on the CAG T-Shirt Idea? I would love to wear a T-Shirt at E3 that says "CheapAssGamer.com" on the front and on the back it says " AND I PROUDLY BOYCOTT BESTBUY!"

Whudduya think? Maybe you and defender could get in on the idea since he has the means to sell product like that. I'd GLADLY wear one each day of the show!

EDIT: And yes, I would buy three shirts as my statement implies.

Wow, another reason to hate Best Buy. It really sucks that they are doing this. I'm not going to boycott them but I will never go there to buy anything unless they are the cheapest (like if I want a game that retails for $29.99 everywhere, I'm not going to Best Buy to get it).

Remember those mcdonald bestbuy dollars?
Well i had liek 8 of them collected and used them for that great 9.99 skis of arcaida deal.

So the total was like 1.70 or somthing i had to pay.

Well of course the item was backordered forever
and then cancelled from bestbuy

And what a suprise i didnt get a my bestbuy dollars back.

I never buy from bestbuy.com. I have bought or attempted to buy 1-2 items over the 6-8 months ive been coming to this site. and those 1-2 times have been from links from cheapassgamer.com

Their reasoning is messed up and i would continue to request a real reason. (although they dont need to give one)
Since they did give you the ASS reason. you should continue to call em up and find out more and point out there ASS on there website search .

As for changing the name of your website?
well i would only think about doing that if you wouldnt be able to continue your site on your own without BBs checks. AND if they gave you 100% assurances that if/when u change the name their checks will be coming back .

cheapassgamer.com is great the way it is.

Im thinking the real reason is they dont like people posting there good deals and then having there deals sold out in hours instead of days like they plan. or somthing like that.

screw em . bb sucks

Man I tell ya.

Janet Shows one Tit and the world goes to Hell.
Howard Stern and all that crap..

now this...

Jeez

CheapyD I am very glad to see you handling this in a very professional way. Maybe the reason BB stopped supporting the site is because they could be loosing $$ on The GGC or any other stupid reason. If they did not like URL they would have never supported CAG in the first place. I bought a $500 camera from BB about 2 years ago and did not open the camera and took it back to the store a week later. I decided I did not want a $500 camera and to save the $500. I took back the camera that I paid a check for (the check already cleared the bank) and they said I could get store credit or they would mail me a check. I was pissed but I said ok mail me a check. The check came 4 1/2 months later.
I was getting off the point. CheapyD do not change the name I think BB will still tell you no and will never support your site again.

Spoo

Brush them hata's off Cheapy. We're all with you in the fight against BB!

Glad to see your approach to this one cheapD.

However, I think this brings up the name issue again. As a 38 year old gamer with 30-something friends, we have run into some issues with the name as well.

Sending links to fellow professionals who work with companies that are either stodgy, or have gov't affialiations (gov't contractors, etc.). has been a prob. A lot of larger companies put content filters in place on their email and web, that prevent emails with certain content from being sent/delivered.

I currently work at a small company, but I am sure there will come a time in the near future when I return to work for a large comapny, and will have to deal with these issues myself. Hell, I even have a friend at a small company that is run by a former gov't spook, and I have to watch my sailor talk in emails to him as well.

Taking the high road is good, but keep in mind a lot of folks would not mind a new URL.

LMAO!! Too Funny!!

No, don't blame tits... and asses. I love them and they are dear to my heart. They are good, they are my friends. I don't want to hear this any more!

*putting hands over ears*

If I was going to pin the problem on anything it would most likely be the award they recieved as worst online retailer.

But for the amount of press ou give them every week and revunue that streams into their company(B&M and online) for them to do this is flat out wrong. Circuit City has been luring me away for a while and it seems Best Buy has pretty much pist me enough to stop shopping there all together.

While I enjoy this site and have benefitted from it a few times, I think the word "ass" in the name isn't necessary. There are tons of less offensive alternatives that are more "family friendly." It may not bother most of the readers here, and it doesn't bother me, but there are drawbacks to having the word "ass" in your name.

Cheapy's obviously seeing first hand what some of the drawbacks are. He's losing money over it. And he could be missing out on some publicity because of the name. Maybe TechTV would mention the site, but then decide not to because of the name. Or those money-saving guys on the local news. Magazines, newspapers, etc. They'd be more likely to give your site word of mouth if the name was something like "Frugal gamer.com" or "Cheap Gamer.com."

But calling it hyprocacy seems a little much, in my opinion. Cheapy should have known the consequences of using "ass" from the start.
But calling it hyprocacy seems a little much, in my opinion. Cheapy should have known the consequences of using "ass" from the start.
You didn't read the article, did you?

This is nothing but a double standard on the part of "Best Buy" (The reason I " " that is because that is also a complete lie) if you are familiar with "Best Buy" you should already know that in their "Special Interest" section of the store they sell numerous "softporn" items without using any type of covering to protect the children that might attend their store and observe some of the items in question.
I now tell all of the users of this website to completely boycott "Best Buy" and take your business someplace else.
Idiotic decisions have to be punished and the way to do it in this scenario is by hurting their already thick wallet.

I can go on and on about how bad "Best Buy" is to their employees and their customers and how they are stealing from you every time you buy one of their "psp's" or "prp's".

-A mad cheapbuttocksgamer (Political correctness is your enemy).

As far as filtering, "game" is just about as filtered as "ass" so any URL containing either term would be problematic for people.

Anyhow...

There was the same stink locally about a shop called "Bad Ass Coffee." I swear, the people who complain about things, be it mother, senator, nun - need some serious deep dicking.

On a side note, has anyone heard of this restaurant that was in the news like a couple of months ago. The restaurant was called C.O. Jones. I don't know where it was located, but there was a big hubbub about their name. CAG doesn't seem as bad compared to that name

Eh, I stopped buying things from best buy a couple of months ago.

It sorta defeats the purpose of paying for overnight shipping and having it arrive three days late.

If I'm thinking of the same place, it's an awesome Mexican joint in New Haven, CT. My friends and I used to get wrecked on their margaritas all the time. Ah, memories of college...
