So here's a doozy of a question I wanted to ask before I possibly waste my time at Best Buy tomorrow.

Back on December 5th I purchased a Red 3DS that includes Super Mario 3D Land at one of my local Best Buys. That week Target had them on sale for $129, so I was able to get Best Buy to price match them.

I still haven't opened the unit, but I noticed today on Reddit that the SM3DL bundle is a different shade of red than the original. Frankly, I prefer the "original" color better, and I'm willing to sacrifice the bundled SM3DL to get it.

So, receipt in hand, I'm going to exchange the bundle for a standard 3DS tomorrow.

But here's the sticking point: The 3DS Bundle was the first purchase I made on a new Best Buy credit card. The first purchase on a new Best Buy credit card nets you a bonus $25 reward zone certificate that I was looking forward to receiving. I'm afraid that if the 3DS is returned to my card that offer will be nullified.

At the same time, if I ask for store credit to avoid a refund, obviously I'll given store credit for the $129.99 + tax sale price instead of the original $169.99 value of the unit. $129 won't cover the purchase of a new unit, so I'd have to fork over an additional $40 + tax to get the new one.

Would Best Buy price match an ad from a few weeks back while doing an exchange of a similar product at the same price point?

No, they would not.

I believe you can buy replacement shells for the 3DS and they are really not that hard to put on yourself. I've contemplated doing it with my XL but I've just been too lazy to do it.

Why don't you just keep it and play it? Isn't that what a 3DS is for? If color is so important to you, your probably going to upgrade again in the future anyways.

$130 Brand New 3DS with Super Mario 3D Land plus a $25 RZ certificate is a great deal. Also to answer your question, your preferred scenario of exchanging will not happen.

OP just wants to look fabulous... is that so wrong?

Well, the gradient-shaded red just looks so much nicer than the flat red.

Anywho, guess I'm just waiting out another $129 sale at this point. Gamestop has it for $139 this week, but I've heard mixed results on having Best Buy pricematch Gamestop.

Really?

I used a pink DS Lite for years just because I wanted to play Pokemon and got it cheaper than I could have gotten a black or white one. Some people are so picky. Just play the games.

Was it gradient-shaded pink? Gradient or GTFO!

It won't work. You paid 129.99. No matter the scenario of exchange or return is only going to get you 129.99 back towards a different product. Either scenario will pull those $25 RZ; if used, they will put you in the negative. So changing colors would essentially cost you $35 (if you PM GameStop)
