So I went to Best Buy the other day, scanned in a couple of games from Amazon and went about my usual business, getting the prices adjusted to match what Amazon is offering. The cashier informed me that Best Buy will no longer price match anything Amazon has because apparently Amazon has been telling customers to go to Best Buy, get all the advice they need for whatever goods they were planning on purchasing and coming back to buy from Amazon.

Beware anyone who was planning on using this tactic to get the Amazon price today.

Sigh....another great deal bites the dust.

They had a policy that was enacted a few years ago when I still worked there that said they'd pricematch any Amazon direct price, with shipping added on top. With me being a Prime member, that meant I always got free shipping. It was easy.

Not anymore though...

Must've just been your store or otherwise highly YMMV, I've never been to a Best Buy that would price match ANY online prices. They've always been very strict and would only price match local stores, and they'd have to call the store to check if it's in stock.

I'm in the same boat as everyone else. My local Best Buy stores never price matched Amazon on anything. In fact, the only stores near me that did price match Amazon was Fry's and I didn't even learn about that until March of this year.

I didn't think that Best Buy price matched online retailers. Anyway, the excuse they gave you doesn't make sense. Why would Amazon tell potential customers to go to a competitor? Even if the customer intends to just look at merchandise, it's an opportunity for BB to get the sale.

How did BB know that you had Amazon Prime? You would log into your account right in the store and show them?

If your Best Buy EVER pricematched Amazon consider yourself lucky. My Best Buy hardly matches print ads (get out of matches due to the deal being a "bundle") much less Amazon.

Our Best Buy never price-matched with Amazon either. They would match online ads for B&M competitors, but I don't know about any online-only retailers.

I logged in on my phone and showed the free shipping right then and there.

I'm really surprised to hear that none of your stores matched Amazon. It was a company wide policy while I was employed there and we were told to use it as a closing tool in case a customer mentioned shopping on Amazon.

And I agree that the excuse they told me was bullshit, but I only report the facts.

The facts at your store maybe, as I was just in BB the other day(Monday) and they price matched the Uncharted dual pack to the $35.26 price that Amazon was selling it for. They also allowed a $39.99 price match of Kmart's price on Dark Souls for PS3 in the same transaction.

Hmm, even the simplest price match at the local Bestbuys takes a miracle, and depends entirely on the mood of the CSR person that I approach.
So, thank your lucky stars that you've been using it all this time with Amazon (never had them match an online price...ever!). Your store is only catching up with the rest of the Bestbuy world.

Best Buy's price matching policies are a joke anyways, 99% of the time I will just go to the store where the item is being sold on sale & buy from them, less hassle that way....if they don't carry it then I go to amazon.

I stopped trying to PM at BB quite sometime ago. Fry's had the newer Castlevania on sale. Tried pricematching it at BB because Fry's was out of the way that day and because the game at BB had a sticker on the front that the Fry's ad didnt show, they said it was enough of a difference not to make the price match.

I have never tried to get a price match for Amazon.com The Best Buys in my area have matched other stores only they call and make sure it is in stock. If it is not in stock then no deal. At one time they did tell me the only online retailer they will match is BestBuy.com. I don't see where they are getting that Amazon.com tells people to look at products in store and then buy from Amazon.com. I know most people do that. Hell I have even done it.

I recently did a price match from another physical B&M ad to Best Buy and they gave me a hard time. They tried to say it was a "bundle" deal (what the fuck?) at first even though the ad said nothing about that. Then when I proved them wrong about that they had to call the store and then look up the price on the internet to make sure it was legitimate. After further arguing back and forth they eventually just caved in and gave me the price-match. Shitty service. I would have just bought it at the other store but I had tons of Best Buy store credit to burn from trading in dozens of disc only PS2 sports games. :booty:

My best buy will not even let u match prices for bestbuy.com. If i told them i want a price match for amazon they will laugh im sure of that

it seems it's pretty rare for bestbuy to pm amazon since the bestbuy doesn't pm amazon at all, now it seems it's official that they won't pm amazon at all

My local BB always price-matches. Amazon, Walmart.com, etc. I really think it depends on the manager as to what stores they will or will not price match.

Says very clearly they won't PM Internet-only retailers, so the store manager is using their local discretion to do PMs when they shouldn't. As a policy, Best Buy won't PM Amazon.

best buy policies always crack me up. It goes something like this?

Make up a fake excuse for why we don't do something that actually is prohibited in our store policies to begin with.

Is the ability to come up with bullshit excuses that dumb people will accept a job requirement at bb?
