I just called to cancel my Best Buy Mastercard after being a member for 4 years. I have always had an issue with paying the annual fee, but every year the accounts manager would talk me out of it by waiving the fee for me.
This time when I called up to cancel my account, the customer service rep on the phone spent about 30 seconds getting my information, and then I told her I wanted to cancel my account, and she just straight up canceled it without trying to get me to keep the account. In the past they would do everything they could to keep me on the line and then send me to an accounts manager that would waive my fee.
I guess now Best Buy is just doing so well they don't mind letting a Best Buy Master holder and Premier members cancel their card. I'm cool with it either way since I usually just force spend the $2500 each year to keep Premier status.
I'm just curious what they have in the works. It must be something so big they don't need people to own their credit cards. Best Buy on their way up in the world!
